The word on the street is that EA currently has Starbreeze studios working on a new Syndicate game.
It's just a rumour for now, but the word on the grapevine is that Electronic Arts is creating a new
Syndicate game, with Starbreeze developing.
The original
Syndicate game is definitely considered an all-time PC classic and is one of the great strategy games to come from Peter Molyneux and Bullfrog in the nineties. Starbreeze meanwhile is a relatively small studio who have mainly focused on dark, broody FPS games such as
The Darkness and the fantastic
Chronicles of Riddick.
The rumour comes from
CVG.com, who are claiming an anonymous source who has connected the dots between a recent deal between EA and Starbreeze and EA's intention to win credibility by reviving a classic franchise.
The original game, which was released back in 1993, put players in control of a corporation with militant leanings that used a cybernetic assault squad to assassinate and capture rival executives.
There's currently no official confirmation from EA and no listing or announcement from within Starbreeze that the team is working on a
Syndicate title - but CVG seem confident, so we'll have to wait and see.

Syndicate game released, or is it a franchise best viewed through rose-tinted glasses? Let us know your thoughts in

"Persuadetron"!
Oh, and I don't think Peter Molyneux had anything to do with Synidacte (other than the fact that he was boss of Bullfrog at the time) - which might explain why it was such a good game :p
Did anyone else ever play Syndicate Wars while listening to Prodigy - The Fat of the Land?
I found they went together perfectly, ahh the memories.
Wrong it was his game idea, his design. Did change lots however before it came out. He had nothing to do with Syndicate Wars but considering that was rather pants who cares.
Arn't Starbreeze still trying to finish of the Chronicles of Riddick 360 version?
Dam! someone beat me to the Persuadetron line, I just hope they don't ruin what was an awesome game...
Yeah, just as it looked like they were starting to turn themselves around, they load every PC release with crappy DRM.
that is all.
My favourite memory is when my brother and I first got Syndicate and loaded it up. My brother looked at the odd island in the middle of the Atlantic (the Atlantic Accelerator, the last and most difficult level) and in curiosity accepted it as his first mission. His squad died in about 3 seconds, if I recall.
One thing I do recall was that the demo of the original had a feature that was missing from the full game - there was a scene where a reviewer set a car on fire with minigun fire and the passengers ran about screaming and he found it very disturbing to listen to. They removed the screams from the final game, wether because it was deemed too graphic or because someone told them to pull it is something that was never explained. I found the screams of the burning Head Crab Zombies in HL2 pretty disturbing but apparantly the Syndicate demo was worse.
This is just awful news. I'm expecting to see tonnes of hype followed by a lacklustre title that will leave the gamer bitter and angry.
Hey, put your hand up if you're still playing Spore? Leave your hand up if you played and thoroughly enjoyed Black & White unhampered by bugs to the very end of the game. Keep your hand up there if you enjoy purchasing expansion pack after expansion pack for the Sims. Also keep your hand up if you just can't WAIT to play the NEXT C&C title!? ALSO KEEP IT UP IF YOU LIKE TAKING YOUR DRM WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE.
Those who see where I'm getting at will avoid this game like the plague.
No Spore yet...
Black&White...played for a few hours but got fed up with characters not doing what you tell them.
SIM's one...i played for about 3 hours...2 Hours to build a nice house and one hour getting annoyed at Sims not doing what you tell them. Then uninstalled. (I got it as a gift 'kay? Anyone want to buy an original version?)
I'm more a "settlers" and AoE type, an order is an order! ;-)
True, I can't wait to play the next C&C though :D
And no, a GTA mechanic would not be appropriate here. But oh gods what if this is their MMO?
Civilians being casually butchered in the hundreds and armed response being determined by your level of hostility, it's not to hard to imagine a game based around the GTA game mechanic. Obviously elements will need to be altered but the basis of a syndicate game is there.
Fantastic!
I just hope they don't mess it up...
Yes, it would fit...
though you'd need a fifth person as "coordinator"...wich is what the player of the original did.
