Uwe Boll announces new videogame

Little is known about Uwe Boll's 1968 Tunnel Rats, but we're betting it'll be awesome. Maybe.

Uwe Boll, scourge of videogame franchises everywhere and maker of awful videogame-based movies such as House of The Dead, has decided to start making a videogame himself, dubbed 1968 Tunnel Rats.

Not much is known about the game for the moment other than that which can be seen in the trailer below, but it appears to be a first-person shooter set in the Vietnam war, with plenty of tunnel based and jungle combat.

Oh, and there are helicopters too - something your army apparently never trained you for according to the trailer.

There really is very little information to go on here, though judging by the look of the graphics we'll say that the game is going to his the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 - but probably not the Wii.

Will the game be as massively disappointing and cheesy as some of Uwe Boll's previous films, or could this actually manage to climb out of the mire of Boll's reputation and emerge gloriously as a surprisingly playable game? Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think in the forums.

I loved the start of the trailer, where "BOLL AG" comes up on the screen.
It's really difficult not to read "AG" as "OCKS".

I'm sure this will be fantasic Boll fare, as usual...

Looks like the cry engine...

Finally Uwe realizes he is not made for movie making. after 300000 people said he needs to stop. Maybe he is getting wise?

After the game is released you can wait for the "Stop Uwe Boll f*ck'n up games" petition or a new world wonder happening...

I hope everyone remembers how utterly awful the tunnel fighting in Vietcong was. Unless he's managed to weave something special into this, I think we're in for another good chuckle. :D

I like it because of its excellent framerate, can't wait :O

OMFG, this guy is like a turd that won't flush - no matter how hard you try he just won't go away.

If his films are representative of what he thinks makes games fun, then I'm not hopeful.

The tunnel bits look terrible and the fighting in the jungle doesn't look much better. I expect it will be one of those games that most people don't even notice and the only reason people are paying attention is because this terrible terrible director is making it.

Who knows, maybe he's so bad at making films because he's actually better suited to making videogames?

...

...

...not terribly likely, but I suppose anything is possible. :)

As long as he stops killing good games in the big screens, it's ok for me

By the way hes the only guy able to REALLY finish a game... Everyone else just get to the end of it...

The Postal movie was bad but funny.

Sounds like dark, confined tunnels to traverse up and down with miminal lighting, enemies "jumping" out at you or magically appearing from nowhere behind you.

Hmm.. sounds *awfully* familiar to another rubbish game I recently played.. :p

Nothing to look forward to. Junk as every movie he's made. Awful graphics and the gameplay doesn't look all that good either.

Talk about linear gameplay!

And the apostrophes are the wrong way up in the trailer. :(

****!
he failed at taking down the game industry from the outside, now he's trying to take it out from the inside! everyone grab your GFX cards and run for the hills!

so how many votes is that petition up to?
Quote docodine 19th September 2008, 05:49
Why did the helicopter just go through everything? Most modern games would at least have some shit blowing up...

The tunnel sequence reminded me of A Bugs Life for PSX, oddly enough.
Quote simosaurus 19th September 2008, 09:21
the helicopter crash looked quite good with the tail rotor kickin up the dirt and what not :)

tunnels just looked stupidly cramped
Quote DriftCarl 20th September 2008, 00:12
Level 1. - Run in a tunnel with no sort of exploration untill you reach the end.
Level 2. - Run in a jungle with probable invisible walls preventing you from going anywhere where you shouldnt, see a badly made helicopter crash. and headshot a boss.
Game Over
