We can confirm that Gearbox is not working on Halo 4 - instead, the developer's Director of Technology is now heading up the new team at Microsoft.
During Nvision, we learned that Corrinne Yu is no longer working at Gearbox and has instead moved to Microsoft to work as Principle Engine Programmer for the next
Halo game.
Yu was former Studio Wide Director of Technology at Gearbox and is incredibly well respected within the industry as a member of both the Microsoft Graphics and Intel Larrabee advisory boards – she's also been referred to by many as "the next John Carmack."
She officially joined Microsoft Games Studio only last week and this is probably where the rumours of
Gearbox developing Halo 4 came from. However, now that Yu has moved to Microsoft to work on
Halo, it's unlikely we'll see the
Brothers in Arms developer working on the next chapter of the Microsoft-owned IP, even though it was involved in the PC version of
Halo: Combat Evolved.
Yu accepted the role at Microsoft quite a while ago, but stuck around at Gearbox to make sure that
Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway was signed off before moving on.
The team for the new
Halo hasn’t been fully assembled yet, but once it's set up, Yu will start work on developing a completely new engine for the game, which is understood to be coming to both Xbox and PC.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that Microsoft isn’t going to let the
Halo franchise die and it’s great to hear that the baton has been passed over to someone with as much vision, enthusiasm and knowledge as Corrinne. We managed to catch up with her for an exclusive chat about all things relating to graphics and technology during the show too, so stay tuned for the fruits of what was an incredibly interesting discussion.
Do you think it's good news that Microsoft has kept the franchise in-house? Share your thoughts

I hope they add cross-platform play and the PC version doesn't lack any co-op or w/e. If it is, then I'll get get XboX version.
yeah
and this time, something ABOVE average
as everything they touch is crap
CryTek's new approach is better: only showcase and tell the public when there's actually something to show.
Ahem.

This is Corrinne Yu. She ain't ugly.
I'm done.
She's also very smart too, and loves to "geek out" on graphics and technology...
Microsoft hasn't even really mentioned Halo 4 yet publicly (other than some mouthiness on the part of some moronic execs) and it's kind of ridiculous to assume that a website that reports gaming news would just completely avoid mentioning rumors relating to the next installment of one of the highest grossing franchises around these days.
I take it that you've not managed to get Bindi out of there yet then?
I'm hoping for a longer campaign.
People do not complain because it overshadows other games, fanboy much? it is quite frankly, the most overrated game series ever, many better shooters around. it isn't complaining, it is called a statement.
+1
Then why do they complain? I would agree that there are many better shooters, but not for the Xbox 360. For the Xbox, the only other 'good' shooter games in the same category are CoD 4 and The Orange Box games, and these play better on the PC anyway, in my opinion. The Halo series has an excellent storyline, and I haven't played any game with as good of a multiplayer on a console. There is minimal cheating, unlike PC games, and you don't have to deal with many bugs, unlike PC games. Bungie constantly freshens the online gametypes, and you can always find someone to play with on Xbox Live, a huge amount of people play daily.
Almost all complaints against Halo are unwarranted.
Wow, lol. That is such a great example of Hackers. I play CS, not often though, and I too see people fly and ****. But he is wrong to think all people that complain about hackers are always wrong. I've seen numerous hacks on CoD4. And, although people will probably disagree, I consider glitches (such as getting out of the map on Ambush) to be hacks. Why? Because it's something you're not supposed to be allowed to do. If snipers were intended to be allowed in that spot wayyyyy back there in Ambush then the barricades wouldn't be there. So yeah. Awesome comment ^.^ A+
Now, I like Halo 3. I think it's a decent FPS. But I consider Call of Duty 4 better. Halo 3 has the armor customization, that's cool, but, its only for looks. Call of Duty 4 has Perks, these change your characters outfit as well as add abilities for your character. Which in my own opinion, wayyyy beats the armor customization. Oh, and all you pathetic Recon beggers: Bungie will NEVER give you Recon armor, so get the hell over it and get a freakin' life.
If Bungie isn't making Halo 4, forget it. Whatever developer does make Halo 4, I think it will either make or break the new half of the series (I say new half because it's obvious they won't stop at 4, they'll make a 5 and a 6 and make it whatever you call a 6 part series). And just because the New developer is a woman doesn't change whether it's gonna be good or bad (I refer to all you people that drool over Assassin's Creed because whatshername made it)and btw I hated assassin's creed.
