Limbo of the Lost developers claim innocence

The Limbo of the Lost development team claims innocence over alleged theft of copyrighted materials.

Limbo of the Lost was a game which caused a bit of a giggle in the gaming communities when it was revealed that the game basically consisted of screenshots of Oblivion overlaid with some awful Poser-made animations. Things got even better when the final cutscene of the game was discovered online - a stunning musical number to rival Portal's.

One group of people who probably aren't laughing though is the development team, who are now facing legal action from Bethesda (at least) and the full scorn of the gaming community. Well, that's what you get when your 'game' is cobbled together from pieces of Oblivion, Diablo, Thief and so on.

Now the development team - a three man team who apparently met in a pub in Kent - has issued the first statement as a response to claims of plagiarism. Find it below.

"In response to the shocking notification that some alleged unauthorized copyrighted materials submitted by sources external to the development team have been found within the PC game Limbo of the Lost, we (the development team) have given our consent and full cooperation to both publishers who are recalling all units from all territories immediately," opens the statement.

"Please be assured that we do not condone in anyway the use of unauthorized copyrighted materials and if we had been made aware earlier, we would of course have ceased development of the product and rectified the issue prior to the publication process."

As Kotaku points out, all that is well and good and basically boils down to "It wasn't us, it was the art team!"

The only problem is that a forum post made by the development team in 2004 has the game's creator - Majestic's Steve Bovis - taking full credit for all the background art in the game and saying that he made it all.

How could anyone expect to be able to get away with this? Pass your thoughts along in the forums.

What kind of moron copypastas a prewritten paper and tries to pass it off as their own?

You've gotta rewrite the paper in your own words.. Then you're safe.

LOL. This is like claiming innocence while being caught in bed with someone else's wife. "We were just keeping warm! Honest!"

Hope they get grilled honestly.. May sound wrong to say so, but if you're so pathetic as to steal other people's work, and then lie about it saying it's yours.. you deserve nothing more.

I think the defendant will be let go and only be ordered to pay the legal fees of the plaintiff(s). No emotional or financial damages were committed, the way I see it, and so no penalty.

Be realistic: the only party to suffer any sort of consequence out of this whole furore is the development team of their time and humiliation.

Here I was thinking that the theft of content was so obvious that it had to be a hoax. I hope all those involved with this game get sued into utter poverty.
