Turbine confirms console MMO

Turbine will be brining a DX10 client out for Dungeons and Dragons Online later this year.

Turbine, the developer behind Dungeons and Dragons Online and Lord of The Rings Online, has announced that it will be developing a new MMO game for consoles after getting $40 million in funding from Time Warner.

"We've hired over 60 people since the beginning of the year and 40 more job postings for the project are currently waiting to be filled," said Turbine's Adam Mersky in an interview with Kotaku this morning.

"The people that invested in us, Time Warner... one of the media giants, getting into the MMO fold, and that's obviously a big deal," he said. "They also have a huge distribution network... that may bear fruit for us."

Mersky went on to outline how Turbine is looking to spend the money, indicating that much of it would go towards the launch of Lord of the Rings Online in China later this year.

"It's a good time for the Dungeons and Dragons Online franchise," said Mersky. "Atari has turned itself around, brought in a lot of talented people recently, and we're in active dialog with them to do good things for DDO."

Mersky then went on to confirm that DDO will recieve a DirectX 10 client by the end of the summer. Excited? Let us know in the forums.

When you said "console", I envisaged a Command line interface, and thought..."Whut?"
