Capcom unveils Plunder

Capcom today unveiled Plunder, a 6 dimensional pirate RTS. Yeah, we're confused too.

Capcom has today unveiled Plunder, a new pirate-themed, real-time strategy game for PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

The game is being developed by Certain Affinity, who you may know for having developed the Halo 2 Blastacular map pack - or who you may never have heard of depending on how big a Halo fanboy you are.

Plunder promises to be a swashbuckling little RTS, casting players as the captain of a pirate ship that can raid ports, attack other ships and capture entire towns. The game is said to be quite open and the only goal is to make as much money as possible.

The game will feature 25 challenges to work through, with seven other Pirate Alliances all battling for a share of the loot. Up to four players will be able to play on one console, but the game will have online support for up to eight players. The game will also come with level creation tools to help give Plunder lasting appeal.

The announcement is a little bizarre though, with Certain Affinity boss-man, Max Hoberman, saying that Plunder will go beyond the current generation of games, taking the adventure "from 3D to 6D", whatever that means.

"Cutting-edge hex-based environments make traditional games weak" added Hoberman. "If you only get to try one downloadable pirate action RTS this summer, check out Plunder."

Buy into the hype? Ready for some piratey action? Let us know in the forums.

Wait, he says he's going from 3D to 6D, but then calls it a "hex-based" environment? Meaning like a hex map? Like what I've been playing tabletop games on for nigh on a decade now?

Maybe he really does mean 6 dimensions. Those six dimensions being:
X: Width,
Y: Length,
Z: Height,
Omega: Time,
Theta: The depth of human patience?
Gamma: An alternate dimension in which flesh-eating kittens terrorize the Caribbeans seeking favor with their ancient gods.

Regardless of the marketing hype, I really like the idea of an eight-person battle for control of Tortuga. Time to load up on grape shot, salt, sausage and rum.

Okay, the OP mentions pirates, Halo 2 (And by extension bungie) and alternate dimensions, yet makes no reference to bungie's seminal work: Pimps at Sea!

Looks an awful lot like a Warcraft 3 map/mod called Battleships

How appropriate, you fight like a six dimensional dairy farmer.

well, if the game have a normal 3D environment and there is an parallel world in 3D, then it's 6D.

But then time is standing still... So they made a game, but it doesn't move... Great! :|
