Gaming in bed more popular than sex

We could make a 'Big Daddy' joke, but instead we'll ask what your favourite game to play in bed is.

You like computer games, right? And you like your bed, yeah? I bet you like combining the two then - but the question is, how much do you like gaming in bed?

According to a recent poll (via Kotaku), playing computer games in bed is more popular than many other activities - including sex!

In a poll of 2000 UK residents, bedroom retailer Sharps found that sex was only the tenth most popular activity for bed-bound brits. Computer games came in just above bedroom gymnastics at ninth place. Check out the top ten bedroom activities below, with a break down of how many minutes each activity occupies for the average person in the UK.

1. Sleeping (3150)
2. Talking (193)
3. TV (132)
4. Net surfing (122)
5. Reading (114)
6. Listening to music (105)
7. Using the phone (81)
8. Working (77)
9. Computer games (57)
10. Sex (35)

True? False? Utterly ridiculous attempt to get publicity? Most likely, but drop your thoughts in the forums regardless.

I would suggest that most of the people who took that poll were too shy to put sex down on a form handed to them :)
Quote Xir 11th March 2008, 11:19
hmmm either that or they don't like the bed...Maybe Brits are exciting!

Instead they use the kitchen table, the office elevator, the neighbours old morris minor :D

35 minutes of sex? Is that per hour, per day or per year?
Quote Bungle 11th March 2008, 11:46
That's actually quite sad. It's almost saying sex is a chore for some. Time for the stick of joy to make a comeback me thinks and for people to rediscover those warm feelings.:D

really? going by the minutes listed for actual sleeping done, the list looks like its a yearly cumulative result. that had me confused for a bit, thinking "what in the living f*** are you brits up to?"
Quote TreeDude 11th March 2008, 12:33
Does everyone have gaming laptops? I would think that this is not just limited to computer gaming, but gaming in general. Playing a console game while in bed is much easier than a PC game.

3150 minutes per week is
450 minutes per day is
7.5 hours per day.

Seems normal to me

Who works in bed? They make me go to the office! All the rest I can kinda agree to as my pc desk is next to the bed so I don't have to buy a chair.

Wouldn't the SN25P be a bit of tight squeeze, especially with all those other bits in it too? ;)

I know. I was joking. :(

Presumably people were asked what they do in bed, not what they would prefer to be doing (gaming over sex? Now that's hardcore gaming :D)

try that poll in the US.

I guarantee you that #10 would certainly not be #10, probably #2 or 3

also the age spectrum comes into play here in a big way. how many people where what ages when they responded?
Quote E.E.L. Ambiense 11th March 2008, 13:54
I just combine the two! :D

I'd suggest the OCZ headband thing, but that would only be useful if you were trying to teabag an opponent you had just killed. ;)

^LOL
Quote RinSewand 11th March 2008, 15:26
wow thats depressing. 35 minutes a week? hmmm. Mind you if you average out the people who are single who have no sex in bed, then i guess that might be about right. IT'd be interesting to see that suvey done only with people who have the option of having sex...

RwD

35 Minutes a week?
Yikes!

I'm going to leave that post there, and let you all wonder whether I think it's too much or too little.
Quote Faulk_Wulf 11th March 2008, 15:54
Huh. Something must be off on that survey.
That just doesn't seem accurate.
Unless-- as said --no one uses a bed. >.> *cough*

Or maybe they just don't get any action.
Quote Journeyer 11th March 2008, 18:36
Personally I have no problems believing in the poll. It might be a little skewed, but I do believe it points to an interesting aspect of our society which seems to me to become less and less intimate with regards to person to person relationships.
Quote MrMonroe 11th March 2008, 19:52
If the poll had been conducted in America I would immediately say that it was actually likely to suffer from a certain bias: that people are likely to exaggerate the amount of sex they are having while lying to cover up how much they love video games. Might just be our culture, though.

Hasn't that already been done with Rez?
Quote dire_wolf 11th March 2008, 21:53
Hmm, maybe this reflects on people that shop at sharps?

Mines Sleep-Sex-Sleep-Sex-Cigarette-Sleep-Sex, and what kind of sad muffin does work in bed? Pfffft
Quote Mankz 11th March 2008, 21:58
I don't play on my computer in bed.

I do sleep though.
Quote -equilerex- 12th March 2008, 00:39
sex is pretty exhausting and you do it only couple times per week.....(not to mention the time consumption differences) and bed? pfft, office chair ftw! XD

Rez is a game about removing a virus in some computer I thought.
Quote HourBeforeDawn 12th March 2008, 03:37
well I guess this is a form of population control but at the same time I find it sad that you would rather play with a game then play with your mate.

Depends how you use the vibro function. Eh, Bindi?
Quote zero0ne 12th March 2008, 09:39
Age variance would be important in this statistic,

along with % of survey takers that are single/relationship/married

I mean if working in your bed is coming up above sex in the bed, well something isn't right!

and 35 minutes a week???!!

So the average is sex once a week over in the surveys area?
(I'd hate to be those guys!)
Quote Mister_Tad 12th March 2008, 10:06
Wow, sex 35 times a week? That's pretty busy!

HOHO!

Gaming in the bed? One hour per week?
Which types of games? Console? Portable? PC?

If console, well, it actually has sth dealing with the bedroom layout.

This survery is extremly closed to a certain group of people. I mean how many young people do you find in sharps buying a bedroom set.

Most people under the age of 30 would probably get thier bed from argos. And wouldnt be spending a load getting a matching bedroom set.

But if I am correct are middle aged + people sitting up all night fragging some mofos.
