Gears of War 2 will be arriving this November as an Xbox 360 exclusive.
As part of a string of announcements at Game Developers Conference 2008, Microsoft has revealed that
Gears of War 2 will be released this November as an Xbox 360 exclusive. No surprise there then.
At the closing segment of Microsoft's keynote address,
CliffyB got up on stage and announced that the adventures of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad would be continued this November. The second
Gears of War game is to be a direct sequel to the 4.5 million selling blockbuster.
“
To our team the original game was just a tease, the appetizer to the ‘Gears of War’ characters and new style of gameplay. We were so amped to get to the next chapter, and dig deeper into the universe of this franchise,” said Cliff, lead designer for Epic Games. “
‘Gears of War 2’ is an even bigger, better, and more badass experience than the first game, and we can’t wait to get it in the hands of eager gamers this November.”
Of course, the observant among you might notice a tiny bit of annoyance in this news post. Afterall, the news of this blockbuster game being (unsurprisingly) unveiled as a Xbox 360 exclusive does somewhat fly in the face of the
PC Gaming Alliance, an initiative that both Microsoft and Epic signed up to yesterday.
Epic in particular has had mixed reactions from
bit-tech readers as the company joined the PC Gaming Alliance despite the fact that both
Mark Rein and CliffyB have been very vocal on their view that
consoles are the future. Obviously,
we don't agree with that.
Still, one thing that is for certain is that
Gears of War 2 is shaping up to look like a great game. Do you think you'll be buying it? Let us know in
the forums.
[perhaps chuck in some extra game modes on multiplayer]
they should call it GoW 1.5
i doubt it will have half the impact of the original
It leverages the particle system to accomplish the complex water physics reaction. just like real life interaction.
google it out for a upcoming exiting game.
And that would be a problem because...?
Sequals aren't supposed to always have a better engine, some of the greatest sequals of all time had the same engine as the previous game.
Examples which spring instantly to mind are:
Serious Sam 2nd Encounter
Command and Conquer Red Alert
Doom 2
Hopefully they'll have a decent multiplayer this time.
Cliffy B, mark rein are idiots, lol. Serously though, sales numbers are misleading, even Mark Rein of the "PC gaming is dying" admits that. Hypocrites. Pc gaming is fine. Bring on Dragon Age already.
Its an established fact that they have updated their engine quite a bit since GOW 1. They showed some demo at a show with GOW 1 footage, then the same footage enhanced with the new engine. Quite an improvement. More monsters on screen, better physics, more particle effects etc.
Im sure this new game will sell millions, and will be the 360's biggest game this christmas. In fact.. it will help sell a boat full of 360's on its own.
I wont be buying it for my 360 though. No Bluray has won the HD war, and with Little Big Planet coming soon.. Im thinking of upgrading to a PS3.
I doubt the PC will see GOW 2 at all. Not after the pitiful sales of GOW1 on the PC. But what do you expect when you release a buggy piece of sh*t that fails to even install and run on most peoples computers.

U are not alone, I still and blown away why that game is considered so good. Vstory was bad, very linear, repetitive combat, go to next area, use cover, wait for enemy to poke head out, shoot, clear out area repeat. That game does not deserve its killer app status. I played it on 360 and PC, what the hell is the fuss about? Many better games around. epic are not exactly good at making strory based games.
