Team Fortress 2 welcomes new map

Team Fortress 2 welcomes new map

Valve says that Badlands is a map focusing on vertical styles of combat. Hmm.

Team Fortress 2 is an excellent game in pretty much every way, but if there was one flaw in it's perfection then it would be the rather meager selection of maps available in the retail release. Thankfully though, Valve knows this and has added a new map to the roster as a nice little Valentine's Day present.

The new map, titled Badlands, comes packed with a double fistful of updates for the Source Engine and loads of tweaks to the existing Team Fortress 2 maps including; "Clipped off tall windows in stage 3 [of Dustbowl] to prevent sentry guns from behind built behind them"

Wow! Exciting!

Valve has also got a few other enhancements and tweaks on the way, including a new achievement pack for the Medic character and a new character video to establish exactly what gender the Pyro is, allegedly.

So, TF2 is getting yet more polish and we're glad - but part of us does kind of wish that the other two thirds of The Orange Box would get some attention. We're dying for Portal II and Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Do you still play Team Fortress 2, or have you moved off for pastures new? Let us know in the forums.

And in typically valve style, fashionably late (for valentines)

i will start playing it again once the net connection at my new flats sorted (major pita), and another map will make that all so sweeter.

I've only just start playing TF2, I'm not stopping now! Any improvements is a good thing in my opinion. I'd rather they spent some time getting TF2 perfect and adding maps than rushed into the next full game.

finally... about time we get more maps (even if its only one).

I'm scared they call it a "free" update...that means there might be some paying content...
Still waiting for the Medic pack. I hoped they would release it at the same time, but I was wrong. Yay for badlands, gotta try t now !
There's also a new corridor in dustbowl to avoid some sentries.

hmmm - when I get bored of dmc4 I might have a gander - theres something odd about the peace of console gaming vs. the rage of an online game with crits :p

I don't quite understand what this means - it's an update to a game you've already bought. You're definitely not getting new games with the update and you guys know that. The statement above is kinda irrelevant then, no? I don't know how Valve works but I'm guessing there's a team dedicated to improving TF2 and there's a team dedicated to new releases..

From what the valve forums say....

The free update is to signal that its avalible to console users for free.

If they make the PC content chargable then they will end up with EA like reputation (think BF2 and its add ons)

The Pyro doesn't have a gender. You have to be human first. Damn pyros....

As for the updates, I'm very pleased. At least Valve continues to offer value after you buy the game.

I'm hugely surprised nobody in this thread knew - or at least mentioned, that there's been a complete Map Pack for TF2 available for a while now :?

TF2 Map Pack 1

You'll have to Google - or check your favoured gaming sites for it, if you don't like Fileplanet :D

They are custom maps, i've played a few and they're not that good. Quite a few ports and they don't seem to work as well in tf2 as they did in there original game.

Had the orange box for a while never really found TF2 enjoyable at all.

The original one kicked it's ass, if TF2 was like the original then I'd be playing it everyday instead of insurgency or crysis :D

Which one? Teamfortress (quake engine), or Teamfortress classic (valve's halflife engine)?:D
