Disney to use Nintendo DS as tour guide

Disney to use Nintendo DS as tour guide

Disney is testing out the Nintendo DS as a tour guide for their holiday resorts.

Disney has, according to the WDWMagic website, just started testing the idea of using the Nintendo DS as an interactive tour guide system for Walt Disney resorts.

The program has been named as the sickeningly-sweet Disney Magic Connection and lets users carry maps of the resort wherever they go.

The system also brings a whole load of useful applications to tourists though, including up-to-date information on queue lengths, automatic directions to the nearest facilities, restaurants and cash machines and, naturally, occasional mini-games. You can see early images of the system over in the WDWMagic forums.

The bad news is that, for the moment, the Disney Magic Connection is only available on pre-configured DS hardware supplied by Disney - though that will most likely change as the program comes out of the testing phase.

The Nintendo DS is rapidly proving itself to be an immensely useful piece of kit, with a vast certified game library, a very active homebrew scene which adds new applications and games to the system and a growing number of companies taking advantage of the handhelds popularity.

It's so useful in fact that we ran a beginners guide to DS homebrew not long ago.

Have you tried DS homebrew before? What do you think to the Disney Magic Connection? Let us know in the forums.

What a great idea. I think a DS would be a great tool, better than one of the standard audio guides that you can get, however it would need to contain a lot of audio data. :)

Uhhh. To whomever wrote this article, and to whomever edited this article: Please hire better fact-checkers. wdwmagic.com is a fan site. It is not related to the Walt Disney company in even the smallest amount.

The official website of Watl Disney World can be found at (prepare to be shocked): www.waltdisneyworld.com

My bad - I thought WDWMagic was an official fansite, but apparently not. Either way, cheers for bringing that to my attention. The article has been updated.

Make sure you go to River Country - the smallest, but IMHO best of the water parks. And go to Typhoon Lagoon on the hour for the mega-waves. :D
