EA making another C&C shooter?

Could the new Command and Conquer FPS be any good? We'll have to wait and see...

It's just leaked out all over the internet that Electronic Arts is going to take another stab at that most holy of game franchises, Command and Conquer. Not only that, but EA will also be dramatically changing the gameplayer and taking the format back to the FPS combat seen in Command and Conquer: Renegade.

Details are very thin on the ground at the moment, but it's been confirmed by Game Informer magazine in the US that EA is working on a squad based tactical shooter which ties in to the Command and Conquer franchise.

The game is tentatively titled Tiberium at the moment and is being likened to Ubisoft title, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. That's either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how fondly you recall the series.

There's no word on platforms or release dates yet, but it's being developed by EA so we can safely assume it'll touch down on every platform imaginable as soon as possible.

What do you think to the latest Command and Conquer games? Could you stand to try Renegade again? Let us know in the forums.

C&C works best as an RTS.

Then I suppose it'd not be EA if they didn't bend a good franchise over a table :/

I think there is scope to make a really good FPS based on the C&C, it just needs a really good involving side story (or tie in the main theme GDI vs NOD Win or Die etc) like COD:4 and the squad type play like GRAW offered.

I wait with much anticipation, and prepared for disappointment!

I liked Renegade a lot. The only problem with it was that everyone was unorganized. If they combine Battlefield style squads with Renegade gameplay then they'll make a great game.

I'm still waiting for Red Alert 3, still got the email from EA, stating thats what game they are working on, then C&C3 was released.

I hope so, Renegade was brilliant. I dont get why people didnt like it. I never did play online because for some reason every time I tried to play online it says insert game disk although I had the original game disk in my drive. Only played on a lan then on.

It was a great Idea and I thought it worked well. Lots of tanks and weapons etc. Much better game than the likes of Battlefront.

I played far far far too much renegade me and Eaterofpies had our own server and we played it day in day out till NTL axed our server.

Awesome game :) if they update it a bit etc... smooth it out and stuff it'll be awesome :) i just lvoed the tanks and planes :) and destroying the buildings :P

I really enjoyed Renegade, and I actually still play it from time to time. The multiplayer was (and still is) very unique compared to most FPSs. I'm hoping that Tiberium revives C&C Mode from the original Renegade in its multiplayer.

Renegade was a great multiplayer game! with bad 3d engine and netcode but still a great mp game.

All the reviews I saw on Renegrade said it was terrible, I never even tried a free demo I had from a mag cover disc. I can only think of one example of an RTS that was also a capable FPS and that's Battlezone, I thought that was pretty good.

I've still got the game somehwere in my junk pile, along with the sequel, I think I'll dig it out again and see if I can get it running with XP.

renegade is an awesome game, very unique at the time (the graphics did suck, the units did look like toys), it has a very nice modding community, and the gameplay is now being ported to the crysis engine and the ut3 engine.....

single player had its ups and lows... but i think if EA did not eviscerate westwood then renegade would be much superior than it was.

Renegade has amazing multiplayer. It would have been even better if the game wasn't rushed. A unique idea executed a little poorly. But I still find the game fun.

renegade's graphics are worse than doom1's as my ass is from the dark side of europa.....

I personally liked renegade a lot, although it did have its fair share of bugs... and the graphics left something to be desired..
But by the sounds of it this new fps seems like just a attempt to milk the series for more money...

There is a UT3 mod coming out thats remaking renegade with way better graphics, its looking really good you should check it out at http://www.renegade2007.com

I was a fan of renegade back in the day and it did have very innovative gameplay, when I heard it announced I was hoping it would end up like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giants:_Citizen_Kabuto citizen kabuto and have strong rts elements. Alas it didn't and no game since giants has had such a strong mix of fps and rts

The only thing that disappointed me with renegade was that you couldn't build, or order anything around

A mix of FPS and RTS for "Renagade2" would be awesome - IMHO

IF all you want is a graphics fps, go play Crysis. Renegade wasn't made for graphics. C&C is supposed to work on standard hardware, that all can play on, look at RA2 for instance, 2mb gfx required, not 256mb min. Now, Renegade wasn't the best C&C title, we all know that, but it was easy to play, and in the end, had a pretty good storyline (single player campaign) It wasn't made so you could command other things, or build buildings etc, its a FPS, not a RTS, while the franchise mainly evolves around the RTS aspect. I suppose though, and i will say this, because i think all C&C nuts will agree, "EA! Bugger off, let Westwood do what they did best!!!"

Good old Westward studios. Talking of which, I wish they would do a Multiplayer for Dune. Could be kind of cool to use the Weirding Module. You could have people shouting down their Microphone to activate it.
Totally agree on a full FPS/RTS hybrid for CnC. This has got to be the next step for FPS. Battlefield 2 with the commander interface, is a step in the right direction...it just needs to be taken to the next level. Hopes and prays.

Renegade was awesome (multiplayer). Actually so well thought out, apart from obvious bad netcode and bugs was the point harvesting from bombarding buildings, which should have been simply subject to diminishing returns.. simple. But apart from that, I have never had the same thrill as loading up a terminal with C4, including my hand operated stuff, keeping quiet, staying out the way then BOOM, then BOOM, DEAD building. FxxK YES.

PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER ONE EA

I like FPS but it isnt for C&C, it would just make it into a totally different game.
