New Ghostbusters game in the making

New Ghostbusters game in the making

The Ghostbusters game is confirmed to have a co-op and multiplayer mode too!

I love Ghostbusters with a white hot passion which burns from the centre of my being and permeates cleanly through into almost every aspect of my life. What parts of me aren't devoted to remembering and glorifying The Secret of Monkey Island are used to love Ghostbusters. Everything else is a secondary concern, even breathing.

Which is why I can freely admit that I squealed like a little girl when I heard that Vivendi had confirmed a new Ghostbusters came in development.

According to Joystiq, the game will be written by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, who both starred in and wrote both the films. Bill Murray will also be lending his likeness and voice to the game, reuniting Murray with Ramis for the first time since the pair wrote and starred in Groundhog Day.

Vivendi has said that they spent 'tens of millions' on the license for the game and is determined to make it work. Variety has picked up some of the details to, confirming that the game will have co-op and multiplayer modes and bagging the first piece of game artwork (on the right).

Platform and release date is still unknown, but it's a safe bet to say that it'll be a multiplatform release and is expected for a Fall '08 release. That puts it near to the release for Fallout 3, so I may have to book some time off for next Autumn.

Hopeful about how the game will turn out or are you a big ol' cynic? Let us know in the forums.

This has been banded about for a little while now. see link (note date of article) but was then reported to have been abandoned. see other link
Glad to see this may actually get off the ground.

Given what you say in your first paragraph, I can only hope that the typo "came" for "game" wasn't a freudian slip.....

Oh and also: your comment system has a weird sense of timing. The instant I had posted my message, it was saying "TomD22, 6 minutes ago". It's only been about 30 seconds in reality even now...

So bang goes any budget for actually making the game then. From the little I know about the games industry, if a company spends hods of cash on a known brand that'll sell games, they end up with no cash or incentive to make the game any good because it'll sell copies based on it's name alone. :/ Here's hoping it actually turns out to be another Goldeneye which bucks that trend.

Oh Yeeeessss!!!!

I loved the old Speccy game - even though it was a bit crude even in its day. But what I really hope is that its in the style of the mock screen shots that were kicking about the web earlier this year, they had the same look as Gears of War (in my opinion anyway) and looked absolutely wonderful. If they get this right and produce a game with a good blend of humour and horror ( you are battling the dead after all) this game could be a real winner.

I've got my fingers crossed for this one.

I am praying this makes it. Ghost Busters is one of my favorite movie duets of all time (have one and two on VHS, seperate DVDs and the 2 disc bonus pack :P)

When I was like 6 or 7 I had every toy imaginable. I had the proton pack, the trap, all the action figures, the car the HQ everything. Oh and the game as well on NES and Sega :D

I want this game to come out soooo bad. I hope Vivendi does a good job with it and doesn't screw something up.

In 1980 this guy scared the living daylights out of small children. In the 21st Century he's an everyday occurrance ;)

If I wasn't at work when I read this I very well may have jumped up and down. Ghostbusters was a great cartoon and 2 spectacular movies. I really hope this turns out well. This will be the first game I run out to get on release day in a long time.

It turns out that this game project isn't linked to the screen shots (and even footage!) that was kicking about earlier this year (boo, hiss!!), it was apparently either a fanboy homage or a hoax using the Unreal engine. AICN has an article about it with what is known so far (very little as yet) but will keep its finger on the pulse.

PS Loved the first film, disappointed with the second and didn't see much of the cartoon but it looked okay from what I did see.

I'm not surprised vivindi had to spend an assload of cash to get licensing. For some stupid reason Sony has been a total whore when it comes to Ghostbusters. Ackroid and Ramis have been trying to make a third movie for a decade, but Sony wont lease them the rights to take it to another studio. Sony wont make the movie themselves because the kind of FX budget a Ghostbusters movie would have is beyond what they think they'd get from it.

Congrats to Ackroid and Ramis for having the forethought to take their script to a game company. Sadly, I bet the game will be PS3 only. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony put that stipulation into the license agreement.

Why do I think of Luigi's Mansion when I think of the Ghostbusters game. :)
