Gears of War movie details

Stuart Beattie has now been officially attached to the Gears of War movie.

Gears of War is a good game and, like all good games, could potentially be an excellent movie provided Hollywood doesn't mess it up. Given the track record for awful game/movie adaptations though, we aren't holding our breath.

Now a writer has been officially attached to the project though, we may be just a little bit excited about how the movie could turn out.

Stuart Beattie, writer of movies such as Pirates of The Carribean (the first one), 30 Days of Night and one of my favourite films ever, Collateral, is now officially attached to the project.

In an interview with GamePro Beattie talks about how he wants to see the film made and he's brimming with ideas. He references 300 as a major influence.

"That film was shot completely on green screen, which is amazing when you actually see the film. It's probably how we're going to do Gears of War."

"I hope it's extremely collaborative. From my point of view it's definitely going to be, because I'm going to be riding their asses about it."

Hmm. So, with a quality writer attached to the film (one who actually may know what he's doing too) it looks like this movie may be better than we expected. How excited are you though? Let us know in the forums.

As long as it contains 2 hours of total carnage, devestation, very big explosion and other stuff that makes you go wtf ownage. (something like the last hour from starship troopers on triple steroids)

It could be a potential cool movie to watch. You see, most game conversion movies are more talk lesser action. Its a action game so i expect a action movie. I dont need character building, just shoot and blow everything up.

But then again thats my personal opinion about how a GOW movie should look

I would love to see this making a box office hit but much like other game to movies it'll go straight down the pan

This could end up being pretty cool but will probably be like the Halo Movie and collapse. Although I think they're still making the Halo Movie, just not for a year or 2.

Uh-oh.

This doesn't bode well.

That said, I would like to see something dealing with the very limited back story around Fenix that some light is cast on in the collectors edition art book.

I can't imagine this being good, especially not with the costumes that're going to have to be fabricated, and the weapons. I mean, who wants the job of manufacturing the lancer assault rifles chainsaw, which looks to be stupendously difficult to make work?

I've been fallowing it for awhile, along with Batman the Dark Knight and Indiana Jones 4. It looks like it could be an amazing film, with a great writer and director but the newest news is that its either been canceled or put on hold.

It's going to turn out to be a joke, why don't they hire some decent writers or actually get ideas from the fans themselves?

Stuart Beattie is a great writer and has produced several scripts that have been major box office successes such as Collateral or Pirates of the Caribbean. So I believe they already have a good writer, the hard part if finding a decent director. Len Wiseman, as the rumor has it, is a pretty good director but the only movie he really has to show for it is the films Live Free or Die Hard or the Underworld series. Also since its being produced by newline cinema, creators of Lord of the Rings, I'm sure they wouldn't back a movie that could become another video game flop of a movie.

(Edit: Ok, maybe Stuart Beattie might not be the best because he also wrote Derailed which was a crap movie, even though clive owen is the man.)

anyway.... as long as it is not made by Uwe Boll it has a chance of being adequate.

I have only seen two decent game turned into a movie, and that was the first Mortal Kombat and Dead or Alive (Come on 2hrs of hot girls kicking ass, what not to like about that ^_^)
