Lucasarts making Wii lightsaber game?

Lucasarts is letting little green midgets play with lightsabers, why can't Wii?

The Hollywood and Games summit is still going on in LA and has already had an effect on our front pages in the last 24 hours, but it looks like things may yet get even better than Clive Barker's bigging up of the video game medium.

Three words; Lightsaber, Wii, w00t!

Jim Ward, the Lucasarts President was asked by Newsweek at the Hollywood convention just why there wasn't a lightsaber-wielding game yet available for the Wii, given that all Lucasarts does anymore is churn out Star Wars merchandise and tease gamers with rumours.

His response, according to Gamasutra, about the possibility of a lightsaber game for the Wii was short, but promising;

"We're all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It's a lot of fun, and we'll get there."

So, it turns Lucasart has apparently doubled on it's previously mentioned strengths; it's now teasing us with rumours about Star Wars merchandise. Gee, thanks for that.

Reckon a Jedi game on the Wii would be any good, or is it going to be more Star Wars Kid than Jedi Knight? Let us know your thoughts in our forums, or we'll slaughter the younglings!

with the sound and vibration coming from the remote itself it would be sweeeet, even dual-wield with the nun chuck, ala General Grevious ;)

When I first heard about the Wii there were two games I thought would be immense titles to make for it- Tiger Woods and Star Wars. Guess it's all falling into place now :).

So long as the motion and movement is full free range and mimicks what you do with the remote, I'd consider a Wii for it.

I Just dont want a version of this game where no matter how much you swing the remote, the saber has but 3 or 4 pre-defined, static motions.

And yet that's what it will be....

Having played the Wii, I'm officially on the fence with this announcement. On one hand, I've been looking forward to a Star Wars lightsaber game. On the other, I've experienced first hand just how touchy the Wii-mote can be. I've found Table Tennis to be nearly impossible to master, and I can only imagine trying to block blaster shots with a lightsaber.

The game will have to be designed with the remote in mind. By that I mean that they'll have to take into account the response time and the players natural inclination to swing quickly.

Is that a lightsaber in your pocket, or are you just exited about the concept of wielding a lightsaber in your living room?

It would be good in first person, more fun deflecting lazer bolts:)

^^^ As long as we don't get disgruntled psychotic students attacking their peers in high school with fluorescent tubes... you know how those video games can be a bad influence. :p

LOL

@mikeuk2004 that doesn't help me too much being that i'm on the isle of wight and the south coast is Wii free. Plus am trying to save money so i can build my first case.

@Nexxo, flouresent tubes shatter too easily to be used as light sabres, plus when they do shatter they release nice toxic gas hmmm yummy.

*whhrmmmm* "i'm obi wan!"

*whhrrmmm...smash* *cough cough* "i'm darth vader...."

There are worst ways of making a lightsaber...

Personally I'm nervous - my girlfriend already has incriminating video of me doing Wii boxing, Wii Jedi could lead into me being the next Star Wars kid ;)
Quote devdevil85 29th June 2007, 20:36
Will Nintendo allow decapitation on their console? because I know that's what everyone was thinking....
Quote HugoB 30th June 2007, 11:40
Hitting other people and being hit by florescent tubes is overrated and painful!
