Uwe Boll eBays roles in Far Cry

Uwe Boll tries to auction off a chance to work on the Far Cry movie with him and his...duck?

Uwe Boll is a franchise-destroying God, making even sub-par games like Bloodrayne and the controversial Postal 2 even worse through association with his frankly awful movies. Thankfully, all he's managed to do so far is film adaptations of already bad games, though that's all about to change with his latest venture.

The German film maker is already making a movie of the cheesy, but gorgeous, Far Cry with a planned release of 2008.

There are several odd things to note about the film adaptation of Jack Carver's tropical romp, the first being that Uwe Boll reportedly bought the rights to the movie before the game was even released and the second being that the director is so short of actors he has tried to sell a role via eBay.

The auction, which is in German, reportedly states that the successful buyer will get five days on set with the team, but they would have to cover the costs of the flight and accommodation themselves. Gee, what a bargain - pay money to go to Canada to be in a tropical action film, to pay more money to hang around with the world's worst director since Ed Wood.

Bidding started at €2,498, or £1,695, though if it has any takers then we'll subject ourselves to actually watching the film on it's release - that's how dubious we are anybody will pay to work with Uwe Boll.

Can film adaptations of computer games be any good, or are they all doomed from conception? Would pay to work with Uwe Boll, or do you plan to boycott his movies? Let us know in the forums, as usual.

I wouldn't say Postal 2 was sub-par. Alright it had a few flaws, but it was still a great game.

You really think so?

Honestly I do, alright the plot was a bit shabby, but I don't think it was as bad as you guys make out. It wasn't up to beating the original, but what game is?

Lego Star Wars orginal saga beats the original Lego Star Wars. The plot was almost non-existent in Postal 2 though - limited to "Get Milk. Go to VD Clinic.". I actually enjoyed the game when I last played it, but I don't think that makes it a good game at all. It's far too easy and compensates for lack of balance and originality with deliberate, crude controvery. The gameplay quickly got old anyway and though there were some inventive things to do, like training dogs, they weren't well implemented into the game world. When there are such far better games out there which do similar things, like GTA, theres little more reason to play Postal 2 other than to scare my GF by putting a cat on the end of my machine gun, IMO.

did someone start discussing sequels that were better than their originals?

movies:
aliens
spiderman 2
godfather 2
terminator 2
empire strikes back

games:
hl2
system shock 2
LSW 2
mario 64 (can that count as a sequel?)
final fantasy 7
CnC:red alert
quake 2
(arguably) monkey island 2
TIE fighter
diablo 2
evercrack 2

i got bored....

Haha the bidding ended without a bid, so they droped the price with 500€
One of the actors is Till Schweiger which some of you maybe know as the baldheaded viking from King Arthur. Back in the days he was kinda funny but now he tries to be a bad guy and its just not working out.

LSW 2 ++

Sequels can be better, but let's be honest, most aren't...
A few spring to mind:
Jaws 2
Episode 1 *spits*
The Matrix - Reloaded and Revolution
Conan The Destroyer
Speed 2 (Although the first one was pretty crap)
MI:2 & 3
Blues Brothers 2000

C&C: Generals
UT2003
Splinter Cell: DA
Vietcong 2

That's just to name a few...

Alone in the dark - sub par? My goodness your standards are high.

Other than that you're right. I would'nt trust Uwe Boll to do the video for a wedding never mind a motion picture.

btw.. the "let us know in the forums" link from the article doesn't seem to go to this thread....

on topic - ya know, i'd think maybe some aspiring young actor will maybe fall for this as they see it as their 'shot at the silver screen' ...time will tell ...has any director ever done this before with ebay!?

I can picture some rich gamer bidding on it in the hope of catching Boll alone with a baseball bat

first of all I wouldn't challenge uwe boll to a fight, the former boxer already KO'd a few of his critics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqbVb-W7GqI including lowtax.

as a note the second and third matrix sucked as the wachowski brothers borrowed most of the first movie script, and they definately couldn't write anything that good for the 2nd or third. they just cashed in on the visual effects and the popularity.

at any rate Uwe boll gives video game to movie deals a bad name. I wonder though if his work is as terrible as it seems ( I haven't watched any) how is he still in buisness? I mean directors have had their careers ended over movies that were much better reviewed than Uwe Boll movies. But then again even waterworld was financially successful and that was the biggest box office flop of its time

It's to do with German Tax law. I did a bit of research into him a while ago foir an article for another magazine and basically the german government will pay for a substantial part of his movies costs and give him certaintax breaks because game/movie things count as art.

Which bring us to...:

krikkit I love you. Although I still think UT99 is far better than ANY of the sequels. But that's just me being a hater.

Postal 2 is hilarious XD (and fantastic in every way).

I didn't know there was a movie - it must have been terrible.

The original Half-Life is so much better than HL2 if you take the time gap not account, by which i mean a straight comparision now makes it more favourable to HL2, but I dont think any game has ever had the impact of HL1 or been as good given its time of release......well cept Deus Ex...
