S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which was delayed by four years, will be seeing several sequels announced in the near future.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. may only have been a short while, but already the announcement has been made that not just one, but several projects are now planned to be set in the
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe.
Obviously the game must have made a massive impression on the market. We know
our review leads us to some favourable conclusions, despite later annoyances caused by the games ending that caused some
bit-tech writers to turn away from the apocalyptic shooter.
GSC Game World, the Ukranian developer behind
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is set to give a formal announcement at this year's downscaled E3 games show in Las Vegas.
"It will be very soon that we present our new interesting ideas and solutions", said GSC’s CEO, Sergiy Grygorovych.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. came under heavy scrutiny recently for
alleged texture theft, though rumours were later
proven to be false.
Of course, the bad news is that the original
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was announced almost a decade ago and was originally scheduled for a 2003 release. Continuing delays meant that the game wasn't released until early this year which, for those of you who suck at maths, means it suffered a four year delay.
If the same delays impact the first of the
several planned titles then we can expect the next game to arrive in about 2011 if it's nearly finished now, by which time we imagine we'll all be flying around in zippy little jet-cars and won't have time to play games that old.
What did you think of
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and will you be waiting eagerly for the next title, or is
Fallout 3 going to fill your apocalyptic FPS/RPG needs? Let us know
in the forums.
A quick question about that, do you guys use FRAPs when trying to benchmark STALKER, because I have gotten some very strange results. Strange as in FRAPS saying 20 fps when the game is totally smooth and obviously not 20fps. I showed it to my brother as well, he said it looked like the game was going above 60fps, but FRAPS showed 20-25. I ended up just turning it off because the game was running perfectly fine, but I see so many people saying this game gets such low fps I had to ask. I've played Oblivion at 20fps, and it was practically a slideshow, definitely not the same 20fps I was supposedly getting in STALKER.
That said, Fallout3 might cause huge disappointment, with BIS setting an incredible challenge with the first two, and my experiance with Oblivion.
Right now, I don't think it's really safe to make a call on which is going to occupy my hdd ;)
