Bring the Pain, to PS3!

Bring the Pain, to PS3!

Pain for the PS3 looks to be heaps of fun and revolves around flinging players out of giant catapults.

A new PS3 title has been announced recently, being bought to the console by developer, Idol Minds. A physics game at its core, Pain is the name of the game and according to the press release the idea came from "an extensive teen market research report. The findings of the report indicated that comedy, random chaos, creativity, community and competition were the central figures driving entertainment choices for the teen audience."

The game, which basically involves sitting a man on a catapult and flinging him into a city in order to cause as much damage as possible to him and the environment, hasn't got a release date yet unfortunately but should be hitting consoles pretty soon.

With some addictive sounding multiplayer action, the game is similar to the crash events of the Burnout series in that the controls allow players to control their drift through the air as they try and smash as much stuff as possible.

The game, which is reported to sell for about the same as Calling All Cars according to Kotaku, will feature nine different play styles and support up to two players. Downloadable content will be appearing soon after the games release and will consist of new ragdolls and areas to launch into.

Interestingly, while the PS3 is optimised for Ageia's Novadex physics SDK, the game is built using the Havok physics engine as its core component.

It's not the first time a game like this has appeared though and, though much simpler in graphics, the Dismount games still command a firm presence on the hard drives of certain bit-tech writers.

Will Pain help make up for the delay of Metal Gear Solid 4, which is now slated for a 2008 release, or is the PS3 nothing but an expensive paperweight? Make your minds up and then hop into the forums!

drop the price to 300ish, pack in a SIXAXIS.... NEW AND IMPROVED WITH NEXT GEN RUMBLE ("lawsuit? what lawsuit?"), and i'm there. the ps3 is finally starting to become a decent proposition.

Really? I always enjoyed those sort of open, sandboxy type of games where you weren't limited to a linear playstyle. of course, that's assuming this game does give you that kind of freedom...

I still play Saint's Row / Crackdown on the 360 for the enjoyment of causing mayhem.

I like open games like GTA, you do mission or just walk around and do other stuff, but it seams like Pain doesn't have a storyline of anykind

I'm with the beast, that game sounds pants to me, though I never enjoyed Saints Row or Crackdown so its probably not for me, if its a couple of quid on PSN I'd probably have a bash on it.

It's not so much Sandboxy as kind of like a racing game from what I know. Kind of "Heres the startline, heres the catapult. To complete the level you have to caused 3000 points of damage to your body, 5000 to the city and catch one of those flying monkeys. 3 minutes! GO!"

Looks good, but would get dull quickly. Multiplayer would spice it up I hope.
