Spore delayed until next year

Spore delayed until next year

EA has revealed that Will Wright's Spore may not see a release this year. Robin Williams isn't happy, we imagine.

Not good news for PC gamers today. Not only has the Vista exclusive version of Halo 2 been delayed, but EA has also let slip that Will Wright's Spore will also be delayed again. Possibly by a whole year.

Spore is the pet project of Will 'Master of all things Sim' Wright. It allows player's to control the development of an alien species from creation to extinction. Players begin protecting single cells and absorbing new genetic traits, with the game view constantly expanding until players can control the entire civilisation of the alien race they built.

The creature editor of Spore was showcased at E3 a while back by Robin Williams.

Though the game was originally planned for a release during late 2006 it was pushed back to March 2007. Will Wright then admitted during interviews that the game would be out towards the end of 2007.

EA hasn't included Spore in its fiscal year plans for March 31, 2008 however. This means Spore might not be with us until next April at the earliest.

Will Wright has a tendency for making good games though, so considering the potential magnitude Spore may cover we're willing to let him slip back a little more. For now.

So, is Spore going to see a release any time soon and will it be worth the wait, or will it just be vapourware like that other game that isn't ever going to be released. Tell us what you think over in the forums.

Although my previous comment still holds, thinking about it some more... this is another one of those games I am quite happy waiting for. I say, take your time Mr Wright.

If it's gonna be good, I don't mind waiting tbh - there's plenty of other (non gaming) stuff I can be doing in the meantime...

STALKER was a poo, a poo viciously rubbed in our faces. It was an OK game at best, but the ending...

The ending made me lose all faith in computer games from Russia.

People "in the know" were saying that an '07 release date was way too optimistic for this game in the first place, so I'm not surprised by this.

A game should take as much time as it needs to be created. What I do object to is the games industry seeming inability to predict release dates with any accuracy. Almost every game now a days gets "delayed". Is it just poor planning on management's part, or are the people making it slacking off? Either way, it's kinda silly and should stop.

Yeah well DNF is never going to be released its not, its just not... its dead... good bye Duke...

But Spore, it should of been easier to make because it was procedurally generated... look like all they can do is procedurally generate release dates...

What exactly was wrong with the the ending in your opinion... was it the multiple endings that were pessimistic or the game play?

they probably want to rework a major feature of the game - im hoping its to allow simultaneous multiplayer action or something.

Yeah it is an EA game but it still looks somewhat interesting. If I had free time I would play it.

BOO! :'( I doubt Spore will turn out to be vapourware (this is Will Wright, after all: if anyone can make it happen, he can). I just wish these delays would, well, cease to exist. :p

The fact that I had no control over the endings and that they didn't tie up the whole Zone or Strelok storylines at all. If you have over 100,000 monies in the game then you get the 'Rich ending'. Which was lame.

I was never going to go back and replay the whole game, being poor, just to get a different ending to find another restriction.

And as I discovered from walkthroughs, if you wanted an ending that tied into a specific storyline then you had to uncover a secret plotline about the scientists.

Best endings I've ever seen: Fallout 1 and 2. Multi-tiered, simple and effective voice overs that describe the effects of your specific actions.

Oh and the Thief games. Just so beautifully moody.

Aww dang. I really wanted to play this game too. Even though my computer can't even come close to handling it. I really need a new one...

Has anyone heard anything about an official Mac release? I'm too lazy to Wiki it.
The_Beast 11th May 2007, 03:14 Quote
wow I have never heard of that game before but now I really want too play it
