Halo 2 has been delayed due to problems with the 'Tray and Play' installation method.
You may re-reading that headline and asking yourselves "
Halo 2? Isn't that out on PC yet?"
To which we answer; "No. No, it isn't. Now stop talking in italics."
Halo 2, the much anticipated sequel to the original Xbox best-seller, has been delayed again. Falling back from its planned release date of May 8, i.e. Yesterday, because of technical issues the game is now set to stomp on to the PC later this month on May 22.
Microsoft is remaining pretty tight-lipped about the exact reasons why the Vista only title has been delayed, but we know it's something to do with game installation issues.
Reportedly the game has a unique installation process that allows players to play the game at the same time as installing it in a cool new feature called 'Tray and Play'.
We're not sure how that will work, but it's obviously going to be handy for those who want to play a three year old, Vista exclusive console port as soon as humanly possible.
Upgrading to Vista for Master Chief, or shunning Master Chief because of Vista? Let us know what you think

I doubt my X800 could pump out 1920x1080
But I know my 360 can pump out 1366x768 and the 2405s scaler is pretty good.
Although I'm not buying Vista for this, I might get it for Shadowrun, and grab a copy of H2 Vista at the same time. mmmmm achievements.
Any FPS + PC > Any FPS + Console
Racing games however, have always been best on the console.
Not sure I'll be upgrading to vista for this one. Not when I'm using linux ;)
I wonder if wine or cedega will ever support Halo 2. I'm also curious as to when the first service pack will be out for vista.
I agree a PC is best on any FPS due to the input method and the fact that you aren't generally sitting on a couch whilst playing :)
Not that it matters to me personally. I don't have Vista and don't want it any time soon, so I'm not waiting for Halo 2 to be released. It just bugs me when highly anticipated products are delayed for stupid reasons.
Also, could anyone who's actually played Halo 2 possibly think that it's worth upgrading to Vista for?
I'd rather wait 5mins, go to the bathroom, and come back and play
:D ;)
Anyone know what the game index is on it? Anything over 4.2 definitly won't run on my system (once I get the above sorted out)
The best thing about Halo 2 was co-op, but even that didn't make it worth upgrading to Vista for.
That pretty much sums up my sentiments towards Halo 2 on PC, too.
Halo 2 won't get me to Upgrade to Vista. Crysis might, but Halo 2 certainly won't.
As far as I'm concerned (thus, this is my opinion, Fanboys, so don't try it) this game was underwhelming to begin with on Xbox, and lacks any of the substance of PC FPS such as FEAR, HL2 or dare I say it....even Doom 3.
There's too much of a whiff of console about the Halo series.
And anyway, a copy of Vista almost costs the same as an Xbox, and playing it on an Xbox would mean no hard-drive space wasted on my PC, leaving more room for PC games which might actually take advantage of high-end PC hardware.
Squeaking 3-foot-high aliens and canned humour, anyone? No thanks.
Yes, I am a PC-gaming snob, but don't get me wrong, I do play console games occasionally, particularly Japanese RPGs and Fighting games, though mostly through (legal) emulation, and if I really wanted to play Halo 2, I would one way or another, but I wouldn't upgrade to Vista to do it.
I get the feeling that this port will sell well to those out there running their Dell XPS with Vista pre-installed, no clue what's running inside the system, Compuserve shortcuts on the desktop and a copy of Halo 2 already sitting in an XBox on the other side of the room.
Has there been any guarantee that Halo 2 for PC will actually have co-op?
They dropped co-op for the PC release of Halo 1, as far as I can remember..

have to disagree with you there... I found it immensely fun and would love to play it on PC.. however... definitely not getting Vista just yet.. it's just not ready IMHO.
me too, was really looking forward to multiplayer online and trying out the new games for windows live or whatever it is called. this sucks. :(
I'm actually quite glad it's been delayed a few weeks as I accidentally spent all my money on C&C3 and some gigabit networking kit :x.
Edit: And there better be an "advanced install" option to install it all at once - I want all the files to be on my HDD, I don't want my DVD drive thrashing to load files mid fire-fight.
on a more serious note I enjoyed Halo 2 for the xbox and will enjoy playing it on 2560x1600 (with all the details the console games lacked turned on)
another thing about PC fps games is that they usually are capable of putting out better visuals than their console cousins if you have the hardware.
Anyway, Halo 2 on PC. Does anyone really care?? I sold my Halo 2 over a year ago and its all about Halo 3 now. I see this as a Budget game for PC, I dont see how they can expect people to pay £30
You can buy the original Xbox Halo 2 for under a tennor, and if you didnt waste your money on vista, you could buy a Xbox and Live Subscription and still have money left over to buy a Big Mac and bus rid home. :)
I think I still have Halo somewhere on PC that I never even played. I seem to buy alot of budget games and forget I have them and never play em.
Nobody has yet given me a good reason to do so. :p
Exorbitant cost, worse performance, new 'features' of no appeal or usefulness.
If I could get DX10 on XP Pro, I'd likely never migrate to Vista until other apps & drivers stopped working on XP..
It's said that, in time, Vista will become a good gaming platform, but when?
Even then, there's still the issue of price... Something just feels wrong about spending that much money on something so intangible as a new operating system.
At least when buying hardware you can see the immediate benefit and use of it in terms of performance and functionality, and there's no "getting used to it" period.
If Vista were 50, not 515 (for retail Ultimate), then I'd get it, but I'd install it only as multiboot alongside XP Pro, because even at that price I'd find it difficult to justify the cost of it when performance is (supposedly) worse and compatibility is lower.
I can state with certainty that if I spent 515 on a new Operating System, I'd be kicking myself because I could have put it towards some hardware with an immediate appreciable benefit.
I add the proviso 'supposedly', there, because I haven't tried it out for gaming yet myself, but if we're to stop believing online benchmarks then sites like Bit-tech would mean a lot less to us :p
Since I'm building a new, extra system for my room this month, I'll have to buy another copy of a Microsoft OS. XP Pro for 140 or Vista Ultimate OEM for 179?
I'll probably still go for XP..
When somebody shows me the benefits of running Crysis on a DX10 platform, then I might be persuaded to switch over. :)
Yea, I know your question was most likely rhetorical.. however, I think some of us already answered this question :D lol
