Go and buy Geometry Wars for Vista

Geometry Wars. On the PC. Sublime.

As I've been known to scream at anybody who will listen, Geometry Wars is one of the best games on the planet.

It's such a simple premise. You, a little ship, some lasers, dual analogue control and a hypnotising combination of psychadelic visuals and entrancing, thumping soundtrack.

It's 2D-shooter perfection.

It was one of the launch titles for Xbox Live Arcade, appearing at the end of 2005 along with the console's launch. But now, you lucky, lucky people, it's available for Windows download through Microsoft - for four quid. Four quid! Why are you still reading this?

Bizarre Creations is the studio behind the original Xbox 360 version, and the guys there have a note up here about the PC conversion. You can play with keyboard only, keyboard and mouse or joypad (for the ultimate experience, plug in an Xbox 360 joypad).

It's available from Microsoft MSN Games, and it's exclusive to Windows Vista, for no reason beyond that of marketing. For those of you who check these things, it requires a Windows Experience Index of 3.0, with 4.0 recommended. Anybody reading this can run it, we suspect.

At least go and get the free trial version, then let us know what you make of it over in the forums.

oh well, at least now i have an excuse to upgrade to Vista :p
Quote riggs 8th March 2007, 12:13
What!? Why Vista only? That's just dumb...

I really need to play this, but there's no point in me upgrading to Vista - got a DX9 card, and XP runs very nicely, so sod it!

f****** w******!

Hmm, no Xbox & no plans to buy one, no Vista & no plans to get it until it's stable, has mature drivers, and at least SP1, - you're right - why did I read that? :D

Sounds like a fun game, someday, maybe, I'll try it.

agreed, however it obviously means that they're not shipping enough vista so they have to offer incentives

I wouldn't be suprised if de-vista-ed copies start appearing on torrent soon either

Geometry Wars was never a reason to buy a 360. I would not buy it even if I had Vista. If it came free with Vista I would uninstall it.

I point and laugh at anyone who is upset the PC version is Vista Only
Quote Ramble 8th March 2007, 19:48
Just played it.
Bit crap really.
Quote HugoB 8th March 2007, 20:10
Why are you all so wrong? It's amazingly good!
Quote Redbeaver 8th March 2007, 22:38
i luv it. if i go to my buddy's house that's all i played even if he got 30+ games available... probably why he's mostly unavailable these days when i said i wanna come over... :p

i do have Vista, but 4quids is.. .like $10CAD. Maybe ill buy it, maybe i dont. if i have a controller, id probably buy it. its a good game. but i just cant say id definitely buy it. i like the game tho... :)

I would have thought they'd give this to 360 owners (who own the game in live arcade) this for free, based on the msn passport. Seems not though :(.
Quote Cthippo 9th March 2007, 04:43
Hmm, lets see, I own no consoles and I plan to upgrade to Vista in the year 2000-and-hell-freezes-over. I don't care how good it is, I've gone penguin and I plan to stay penguin!

Grind wars is a geometry wars clone... and works on xp. I will not link to it (google is your best friend) because Bizarre productions has asked the creator to remove it, although it it still easy to find.

Try it, it's cool !
Quote Zetourist 9th March 2007, 19:58
hehe David_Fitzy is right, the intarweb is wonderfull, there is already a cracked version tagged 'BAKA' that perfectly runs on XP :)
Quote Mattakadeimos 10th March 2007, 14:12
Ok well geometry wars maybe cool but why pay for it when you can get it free on xp. Google for Xwars and be happy.
