Sony's Phil Harrison will focus his keynote on what the company has coined Game 3.0. Could this be PlayStation Home?
In typical Sony fashion, the company has pre-announced details of its presence at this year's Game Developers Conference.
Phil Harrison, president of Worldwide Studios at Sony, will deliver the opening keynote entitled "Game 3.0: Developing and Creating for the 3rd Age of Videogames."
In his speech, Harrison will focus on the four major components that make up the company's Game 3.0 initiative. These are community, user-generated content, collaboration and commerce.
The specifics of these features have not been announced yet, but Sony says there will be a live demonstration of the technology in Harrison's keynote. It's claimed that the demonstration will use previously unannounced services and games for PS3.
"This is a very exciting time to be part of the game development community. Advancements in technology combined with new consumer trends mean the industry has a great opportunity to create engaging new entertainment experiences for the world," said Harrison.
Last week
Kotaku uncovered rumours of Sony's plans to introduce a service known as PlayStation Home. It's quite possible that the major components of Game 3.0 will be known collectively as PlayStation Home and will incorporate features similar to what we've already become accustomed to on Xbox Live. In addition, PlayStation Home is rumoured to have a MySpace-like social networking feature - this could be the community component of what Sony has coined Game 3.0 for the time being.
Could this be Sony's killer app for PS3? Let us know

That wouldnt work at all, you look at myspace, who have millions of people signed up already, if you want to find a friend their most likely not too far away, on a PS3? Restricting how many people can sign up, youll end up with just a couple of geeky friends, as I doubt many girls will buy a PS3 :\
Social networking wont take of on the ps3 for this very reason, maybe in the future though, when the price has dropped and if it becomes as popular as the ps2.
TBH it doesnt seem like they are brining much more then the PC has had for a long time (like the 360)
If sony markets "Game 3.0" like they did the PS3 itself then it will flop just the same and the PS3 will fall even further behind.
all things aside i think that sony really could have made alot of money on the PS3 if they put more effort in to it. it looks to me like they tried to pull a "Nintendo" (where the product just plain sells itself). microsoft realized this and put huge amounts of money and time in to the Xbox line of products, look how it paid out for them. it almost seems, and i might be getting ahead of myself here, that sony is just to proud to admit they might have to market their product. it just feels to me almost as if they thought creating the PS3 should be enough. its not like i am a business expert or anything, it is just something i noticed.
