European buyers of the PS3 console will be in with a chance to grab a copy of the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale, on Blu-ray.

In a move designed to get PS3 buyers online with the PlayStation Network, the first 500,000 European PS3 buyers to register with PSN will get a free copy of Bond's escapade in HD.

It will also act as a teaser for PS3 buyers curious about the Blu-ray format, and Sony surely hopes that it will get more people buying into the format on this basis.

The Bond disc is amongst the first high definition discs across either format to be encoded in MPEG-4 AVC - most previous discs have been encoded in DVD-a-like MPEG-2. The discs will obviously be 1080p, for everyone that can enjoy that fine format.

The PS3 is out on March 23rd, and will cost £425. That's substantially more than the £250 Japanese consumers are being charged at the moment. We know Sony wants to win its home territory, but in a global economy, can the market really stand a 40% price difference for the same product? You could practically get a flight to Japan for the difference.

Will you be grabbing a PS3 at launch? Excited about Casino Royale? Or just waiting for the 1080p rip to turn up on BitTorrent? Let us know your thoughts over in the forums.
