Games like Dead Rising and Gears of War have been huge successes for Microsoft's 360.
Dead Rising has officially been a huge success, after details emerged on
Gamesindustry that sales have topped one million copies worldwide. Capcom now plans to turn the zombie-kill-em-up into a full on franchise.
Mark Beaumont, executive Vice President and head of consumer software for Capcom told Gamesindustry:
"When you're at the front-end of a hardware cycle, people are willing to take more of an experiment in what games they'll try. Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come."
For those of you who haven’t played Dead Rising on the 360 allow me to explain briefly the concept. Zombies have taken over an American shopping mall and you, as a budding photo-journalist, are planning to get the scoop of a lifetime. The game allows you to make use of virtually anything to kill the zombies and is comparable to a game like GTA, in the freedom it gives the gamer to tackle the 72 hours between the drop off and pick up from your helicopter.
The concept for Dead Rising would work brilliantly in tons of scenarios. How about an airport? Or perhaps a fun fair? Heck, why not go the whole hog and just recreate an entire city and fill it with zombies? That would be one ‘hell’ of a game…

Techreport has spotted a post made by Gears of War head honcho Mark Rein in which he denies that there is any new information regarding the Gears of War PC game. The original forum post is
here and the gist is below:
“There’s nothing to announce at this time. We’ve said all along that, at some point in the future, we could adapt Gears of Wars for PC. Based on past experience we’ve learned that it takes approximately 5 years for an OS to fully take hold among the gaming population. So unless it takes us 5 years to bring Gears of War to Windows, we certainly expect to keep supporting Windows XP users. For now however Gears is available exclusively on Xbox360 and we’re still working on improvements and enhancements to it.”
So no sign of Gears of War on the PC just yet. Come on Rein, pull your finger out. If you’ve already got the game on the 360 then you might also be pleased to know that two new multiplayer maps have been release, they are called: Raven Down and Old Bones.
Pleased about the Dead Rising franchise? Are you bothered about Gears of War coming to the PC? Let us know your thoughts in the
forums.
But I wouldn't hold your breath for a PC version of Gears Of War, if it does come out on PC it'll be just like the Halo PC ports (Dull and broken) and you'll be waiting for quite some time yet.
Have to agree with that. It was designed for the xbox. Play the game and you'll see how it just wouldn't feel right on a PC.
:) I basically did the reverse of this! Couldn't abide the levelling system in Oblivion - ruined the whole experience for me (but I never return my games, so it's just sitting there giving me evils from the shelf). Got Dead Rising, love everything about it - I'm not gonna question your opinion :D - I love quick blast short games, and this one even allows you to restart the game whenever you like with all your hard earned stats! Really loved this concept (loads of people hated it though...). Great fun, great game, roll on the Franchise Machine :D
Oh yeah, the Gears maps are ok, Raven Down is a bit, well... stupid, but still fun, and Old Bones fits in with the original set very well. Watch out for the patch though, loads of problems with "Strict" NAT... lots of unhappy chappies out there!
A big city - that would be interesting. But I think the really area of opportunity would be a big city with multiplayer ability. You log into xbox live and join into a city and start battling with dozens of other people, co-op, etc.
Much more potential, i think.
That's where I got my copy, yay Play! :D
To those that say No Gears on PC for a long while: Halo-1/Halo-2 were before the whole Windows Live Anywhere and Games for Windows push. It's very possible that Microsoft would want this game to help spearhead the movement and show support. Plus Epic is a PC developer, and this game would be instant crazy money. So I don't think it's a given either way.
As for Dead rising being a franchise, blaw. All the push for "New IP" makes me laugh. Why do publishes want new IP? So they can make franchises out of them, and beat them to death with a flood of releases. I don't care about the setting/story (IP), I want "New gameplay". But no one ever talks about that. Change the setting/store of your cookie-cutter shooter, and it's still the same game to me.
For all the flak Nintendo gets with it's core franchises, eg, Mario, you have to give them some credit. All the mario games are defnitely not the same platformer over and over. You have all different sports, racing, pinball, etc. While the IP is the same, the gameplay is different.
If the dead rising "franchise" doesn't innovate, and is the same old gameplay, then that is not something to celebrate.
