1 billion points in Geometry Wars?

Geometry Wars is addictive, but playing the game for 90 hours... surely that's wrong?

Popular Xbox Live game, Geometry Wars, can be pretty addictive. Tasking you with the simple, monotonous, yet hypnotic job of flying a small spacecraft in a square box destroying anything and everything that comes near you. Gamers have been known to spend hours and hours trying to improve their score but now it's being taken to the next level.

One (insane) gamer, who goes by the alias K4rn4ge, plans to turn his addiction into a Guinness World Record and is aiming at getting 1 billion points in the game.

To put that in perspective the current high score (which he also holds) stands at 360,360,600. To reach that score it took the dedicated gamer 30 hours. The score puts him 58 million points ahead of his nearest rival (top 10 highest scores below) and leaves him with only one goal to aim for – the billion point score.

To achieve that Joystiq reckons the Geometry Wars lunatic will have to play the game for 90 hours. Endurance gaming pushed to the limits!

“What is the weirdest message or comment you've received from someone?

Some guy sent me a message saying that I was his geometry wars idol and he wants to make a shrine for me and collect a piece of my hair! Um…Yeah.”

Check out the Youtube video of him in action. By the time he has got to this stage the computer can't actually throw anything more extreme at him. Here it's just a case of him going through the slog of just building up his points.

Whoah. That video reminds me of the bit in the Matrix: Revolutions where they're in a ship, being chased by all the machines down the tunnels.
Can't believe he's trying to get to a billion points though, imagine the wound of a power cut on his 89th hour?!

Is that 90hrs gonna have to be a continuous session or can the idiot pause it at all?

IIRC, I'm pretty sure you'd die if you tried staying awake for 90hrs straight.

Don't be so quick to slag him off.. He did it as a stunt - Sun-Wed.. Thats just like a long weekend lan party, The likes of which most of us have played. I don't know a bout a guiness world record, but he deserves some credit..

Watching that video was cruel and unusual punishment. Any longer and I'd have to pull my eyes out or risk going insane. I can think of a LOT better things to do for 90 hours...

Jeeesus f@4^ing Christ!!! Damn....to spend 90 doing that?! This guy must be out of his damn mind...there is absolutely no way he can manage to pull that one off......but the game looks pretty nice TBH...but making 1billion points in that game.....damn it..... there is no way!

everyone seems to be putting the guy down but I think it's pretty cool. I mean how many of you are the best person in the whole world at anything? Isn't spending a week working on something worth that acolade even if it's "just a game". after all is life not just one elaborate game an MMO where everyday is constant grind with no level cap in sight?

yah in perspective 90 hrs is not a lot in MMO time (my wow char has 17 days). While I respect his talent I'm not inclined myself to go for such an isoteric goal, basically it seems sorta like pacman where if you get to a certain point then you can essentially play the game for ever (or in the case of pacman the perfect score which takes 24+ hrs to complete IIRC) i dunno it seems now it's just for show he's basically found a way to play the game as long as he can take, barring nomistakes
