NVIDIA has been quick to answer some heavy criticism that we sent in its direction yesterday during our Tomb Raider: Legend review.

We had major problems getting the game to run smoothly with Next-Gen content turned on when using NVIDIA hardware. It seems that many of NVIDIA's paying customers have also had problems getting the game running smoothly with Next-Gen content turned on, so we were not alone in our experiences.

They have released a new, publicly available driver on its nZone portal today that fixes the stuttering problems in Tomb Raider: Legend. You can download the Forceware 84.43 driver here.

NVIDIA's Adam Foat had the following to add: "In response to your article on Tomb Raider: Legend, I would like to let you know that the stuttering issue has been fixed. I can only apologise that we couldn’t get this driver out in time for the game release date.

Tomb Raider: Legend is an important game and is in our TWIMTBP program. We constantly make efforts to add key driver fixes for TWIMTBP titles when they ship and make sure these drivers are available as quickly as we can to end users on our website. We worked closely with Eidos and Crystal Dynamics to make sure our end users experience the best quality on NVIDIA GPUs.

There is a new driver posted to nZone.com today, 84.43, that is available for all end users to download and will provide you and your readers with an incredible gaming experience on NVIDIA hardware. This driver adds the SLI profile for Tomb Raider as well as addressing some of the stuttering problems that readers have experienced when using NVIDIA GPUs."

We will be working on an addendum to our Tomb Raider: Legend review with updated performance numbers using the fixed driver over the next couple of days. We did do some preliminary testing with a single BFG Tech GeForce 7900 GTX OC and it seems that the game is playable at 1920x1200 with AA and Next-Gen content turned on.

If you get the chance to have a look before we update the article, please do let us know your experiences with the new drivers in the forums.
