This weekend, Valve Software is inviting everyone to try Day of Defeat: Source for free via Steam.

Day of Defeat: Source is the latest version of the World War II online action game. The game had its first appearance in January 2001 using the original Half-Life engine and was made by one of the many talented Half-Life modders. It went on to retail version 1.0 in May 2003 and popped its head up on Steam in November that year.

We had a look at the new version of the game on release date, showing the key differences between the four maps that were completed by launch day. Since then Valve has released two new maps, namely Argentan and Kalt - two popular maps from the original Day of Defeat game. Don't forget to check out the new cinematic effects that Valve are looking to push into the game over the next year or so too.

If you've got a Steam account, you will be able to start pre-loading the required content by the time you've read this, if you haven't done so already. The game will be unlocked and you can start playing the game from 12:00 noon PST (8pm GMT) on Friday 12th February until some time on Sunday evening.
