Xbox 360 to see yearly price cuts

How's this for a snippet? The Xbox 360 will have price cuts every year in a bid to keep it competitive, according to a Microsoft exec. Whilst this is hardly big news, it must be one of the first times a gaming exec has gone on the record about future long-term plans for price reduction.

This from industry bible GamesIndustry.biz:

""We will wind up cost-reducing the product every year," Todd Holmdahl, corporate vice president of the Xbox product group, told Reuters. It's estimated that the 360 costs approximately $100 less per unit to manufacture than Sony's PS3, giving Microsoft more scope for price cuts.

The current gen Xbox had its priced slashed by £100 just six weeks after it debuted in Europe - apparently because less than 200,000 units were sold in the month following launch, according to some estimates."

We agree - we can't see Microsoft having to slash the price on the X360 a couple of weeks after launch. This time around, we think it has a winner on its hands.

Will you hold off until there are some better X360 deals around? Or will you be first in line come the great day? Let us know.
