Guess the Tank Competition with World of Tanks

Correctly identify these armoured behemoths, and you could win free gold to use in World of Tanks

Wargaming.net, the developer of the really rather brilliant multiplayer game World of Tanks, is proud to announce a new competition in conjunction with bit-gamer.

All you have to do is correctly identify the ten tanks shown in silhouette form below, and you'll be in a with a chance of winning in-game gold tokens that you can use to buy a new tank, a Premium Account or consumables such as repair kits and super-deadly ammo.

The first randomly-selected reader to correctly identify all ten vehicles will earn themselves a substantial sum of 5,000 gold tokens.

The second randomly-selected reader to correctly identify all ten vehicles will earn themselves a generous handful of 2,500 gold tokens.

The third randomly-selected reader to correctly identify all 10 vehicles will earn themselves a helpful sack of 1,000 gold tokens.

In addition, ten runner-ups will each win 500 gold tokens.

So what are you waiting for? Simply email editor@bit-tech.net with the correct name of each tank using the subject line 'Tank Silhouette Competition'.

We'll announce the winners of the competition at the end of the week.

I only have problems with the first 3. I think I know the first one as well, but it looks like it is not included in WoT so I probably got the wrong one. There is another model that it could represent, which is included in the game, but the real version and the silhouette in the tankopedia have supports for the gun though the actual in game model doesn't... which makes this quite confusing. For 2 I'm pretty sure I know which family it comes from, but I can't decide which particular model. As expected, the tank destroyers are much harder than medium tanks :(

I see this compo is advertised on WoTs main page/News from the front.
Is this compo open to the whole of Europe?

I have entered but I am not getting my hopes up....that could be a hell of a lot of entries.

a few of them are very difficult because the angle they're at... it could be one of a few... I managed 9 but i'm not at all confident with about 6 of them... A couple of them are bleeding obvious [so knowing my luck i've got them wrong...]

the gun on #3 completely threw me [and it's the one i didn't answer]... to me it doesn't look like any of the in-game tanks [i am assuming they're all with the 'stock' gun/gear]

Haha, some of these commends seem funny to me! How can you not instantly know which tank is #3? IT has a big head and a big gun! SIMPLE!

But #6 is difficult because of the angle, looks like 2 feline tanks from that angle:(

You can enter the competition from anywhere in the world, as I only have to email out the prizes, not send them by courier :)

#3 was easy - just look at the turret - what other tank has such a ridiculous turret?

#1 is not the tank with gun supports - it looks very similar though.

I took a little while to accurately pin point #1 and #2, but was otherwise ok.

I guess when Lizard is also tank geek, it doesnt mind if I expressed specifically some details that differs ingame and historically, like names and ingame names. I have to say, that 2. and 5. were really hard nuts. in the end 2. was hardest to point it out correctly

I just clicked the link and saw the tanks and I started counting them.
Then I just put all of their names in there in a minute.I was really fast.
Well,hope I win cuz I need that 5k gold more tha anyone (for my Tiger II).

got them, just wondering about the name to use, cause no. 3 in the game is named after the basic chassis, until the next update, but i know it as the different variant, being a bit paranoid, but should i use its name in game, or the name everyone knows with that shed of a turret? yes i am a complete tank nerd, :)

Thought I knew them all but then I checked what is actually available in game and no. 3 does not seem to make an appearance as what I thought it was.

All the rest I can identify fine due to playing hundreds of hours of BF1942 with many mods and tens possibly hundreds of vehicles. Plus modding, research and general interest.

There's no need to apologise for being a tank nerd - you're in a good company.

Besides, given that you clearly know which series of tank number 3 is I'll accept either answer from you if you're selected as one of the winners.

Well this was rather enjoyable, but reading through the comments on this I am surprised at how many people dont see how obvious some are. Like number 3... so easy, I could understand if you have never played the game but some are just OH YEAH!! What helped me most was I play the game a lot, also being some one who keeps all of his tanks that are tier 5 and up it was easier. The one i had a bit of trouble with was #2, there are 2 of those that look very very similar but there are small subtle differences, thankfully i can see these te he te he. #6 took me a min to figure out its design, also number 7 since it looks like another model, and lastly #8 but certain things about it also just made it obvious. Good luck to you all and ya i also wanna see the results haha.

I agree with you with 2 was tough, but 3 was to obvious. 2 took me a good 5 min to figure out.

I have a good idea on all of them, some are tricky as they have a varianst that are very similar. For example the SU-85 and SU-85B have nearly identical shapes.

oh, #3 is the KV with the KV-2 turret and the 152mm gun. I know bcuz i got all of those upgrades XD

No, it's a sign that you're engaging with the game. It reminds me of a flight-sim from the late 1980s / early 1990s where, in order to prove you had a legit version, they showed a plane silhouette and asked you to identify it from the manual. Now I can spot the difference between a YAK-58 and a Harrier at 1000 paces.

Still stumped on #10 though.

Well, that was easy (Due to my massive amount of time playing World of Tanks XD ) apart from Number 2, isn't the only difference between the tanks that could be number 2 the chassis?, one has the chassis of an IS and one has a chassis of the KV?...so its nearly impossable to tell?

Number 2 could be one of 2 tanks...and the only difference between them is the chassis...apart from number 2, they were easy :)

You mean Yak 38? 58 is a small business aircraft while the 38 was the Soviet Navy VTOL with the bizarre engine config.

And I thought #10 was one of the easier ones tbh. There is only one WW2 era tank with this monstrous gun and the turret shape. Though I think it might have only seen action in the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. Not sure whether it made it tot he front before the fall of Berlin.

You're right, I was thinking of the 38. When I wrote that, I couldn't remember which version it was... and I still can't remember which game it was, either.

Ah yes, it was F-117A Stealth Fighter. Gee, that takes me bacl.
