Back issues of Custom PC up for grabs

Back issues of Custom PC up for grabs

This is your one time only offer to fill a gap in your Custom PC collection

We've recently been having a bit of a spring clean here at bit-tech and Custom PC HQ. We’ve dusted our monitors, scraped the gunk out of our keyboards and have sorted out the huge pile of back issues of Custom PC that’s been sat in the corner of the office for what seems like forever.

The plan is to recycle the spare issues that we don’t need anymore, but we thought we’d first allow you guys the chance to fill any gaps you may have in your Custom PC collection. We’d rather the issues go to a loving home rather than a recycling machine after all. There are of course one or two caveats with this offer, which are listed below.
  • This is a one time only offer and will only be open for a week.

  • We’re posting the issues out at our own expense so each individual claimant is limited to a single issue each. Choose wisely.

  • Unfortunately we don’t have copies available of every issue, though we do have most. If the issue you need is one then we haven’t got then sorry, that’s bad luck.
To claim your issue simply email paul@custompc.co.uk with your requested issue and the address you’d like it posted to. Note that requests made in the comments thread of this article will not be honoured, requests will be accepted by email only. Each email will get a reply saying whether or not it’s been possible to fulfil the request. We’ll do our best to get issues posted out in a timely manner but please allow a few weeks for delivery.

Do you have a gap in your Custom PC collection that needs filling? Will you be taking us up on our offer? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

It's when you're scraping back issues out of your keyboards that you really need a spring clean :D

Is there any likelihood of after a certain period of time, the articles in their entirety would be copied wholesale on to the Bit-tech site, as some kind of archive? Like say, 12 months after initial publication, anything that wasnt already on as a bit-tech article could be uploaded as a viewable pdf or something? Would that break a version of copyright or some such? It would be useful as an online reference for us rather than trying to find an article amongst the Mountain of back issues Im sure we all have clogging up our spare rooms...

Which one had the guide to overclocking an i5 750? Or have I just made it up?

There is a digital archive project being worked on, but it's unlikely to go back to Issue 1 and I don't know what the cost will be yet. Still, something to keep an eye out for.

I'd just like to say thankyou for what is obviously a kind-hearted gesture to the community.

Therefore, at risk of sounding ungrateful/malcontent with what is an awesome opportunity. - Is there the possibility of a reader covering expenses to squeeze an extra few issues out of you?

I have them all from isssue 15, so its not worth the bother for 1 issue, but many thanks for the offer. But if there was a Digital offer I would be 1st in the queue as these take up a heck of a lot of space (which is why you are clearing out !! I bet :)

I suggest starting it from when the black spines were introduced (44/45), that makes sense as there was a heavy amount of crossover with Bit-Tech even before Dennis bought it up.

There was no comment about you had more of recent issues than oldies, so I hope listing an alternative in case the first choice had gone was OK. That's if they hadn't all gone after three hours anyway...

This is so strange. I have just started scanning my back issues of Custom PC into a PDF format since last week! Is that prophetic or what?

I've scanned issue 51, 57, 65, 67 and 72 so far. Just doing them as I see them from the pile I have, which dates back to 2004.

After scanning them all I also want to recycle the issues...
M7ck 31st January 2011, 20:21 Quote
@Kingsley813 sounds a little like breach of copyright
Kingsley813 31st January 2011, 20:36 Quote
But I'm not distributing them though, it's just to be stored on my external hard drive - the physical issues take up too much space... Is that a breach of copyright? It's not to shared - the quality isn't that great anyway!! :0

I suspect that'll be the case as it'll take some work to do and that has to be balanced against how many people will buy them (the theory being people will be more interested in more recent back issues). I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Custom PC magazines are very informative to make back to back comparions with the old and new!

The magaziine needs a makeover - more pages - more games reviews and forthcomming games, and a techi section! SORTED!

I was just checking through my collection to see which issues I was missing (have emailed Paul) and only just noticed something... what happened to the letters page?
Digi 3rd February 2011, 08:56 Quote
What a great idea, I am sure it would have been less bother just to have chucked 'em!

Just for my info - did the custom PC launch coincide with one of the i-series events and did you give out issue 1 for free in certain number there? Or was it a trial version of the mag? I am sure I remember the fanfare when you were first launched and getting a copy of *something* there.

It would have been i15/16 or 17 I can't remember which.

Got 017 today with the CPU Supertest! Excellent! RM put a bag over it and tagged it as 'damaged before it reached the UK' considering it was sent FROM the UK that seems odd, and it wasn't damaged at all. And thank you again.

I sent an e-mail a couple of days ago and have not heard anything back, does that mean I will not be receiving anything? I'd asked for the November 2010 Issue
