Nexus One suffers T-Mobile issue

Nexus One suffers T-Mobile issue

The Nexus One is certainly a snazzy handsets - but many T-Mobile customers are experience major connectivity issues.

Google's first own-branded entry into the mobile 'phone market - the Android-powered Nexus One, manufactured by HTC - might be making a splash with its high-resolution screen and super-fast processor, but not everyone is happy.

According to an article over on Electronista, customers on T-Mobile's US network are experiencing issues with the Nexus One which results in it failing to hold a 3G data connection, frequently dropping down to a 2G EDGE connection - with a significant drop in speed as a result.

The issue doesn't just affect data connections, either: customers are reporting that the Nexus One gets significantly poorer reception for voice calls that other 'phones connected to the same network in the same area - including other HTC manufactured Android-based handsets.

The flaw is thought to be a result of a firmware issue which only raises its head on T-Mobile's specific network - something with Google will have to issue a fix for through the over-the-air updating mechanism built in to the Android platform. Unfortunately for those experiencing the problems, there is no estimate from either company on when such an update might be released.

T-Mobile is asking US customers to provide details of their Nexus One connection issues in the company forums, promising that "Google and T-Mobile are investigating this issue and hope to have more information for [customers] soon." Sadly, there is still no sign of a fix for those afflicted with a bad connection.

Any readers here lucky enough to have got their hands on a Nexus One but unlucky enough to be saddled with the T-Mobile connection issues? Share your experiences over in the forums.

Official UK Vodafone?

You can buy one today from www.google.com/phones, it will come with a USA charger and you'll get busted at Customs for VAT & Import duty.

Assuming that the OTA update works as planned, I don't think this is much more than an embarrassing hiccup. I do wonder how they managed to release it like this though - and will it be an Android problem or a Nexus One problem?

edit: err too slow :D

Did you have to pay extra due to Customs (VAT & Import duty)? if so how much?

Sounds similar to the issue on the release of the G1, although that just dropped your call and connection every couple of minutes.

Still, once it was sorted the G1 rocked, and still does. Lovin' it!

I love my nexus one just on ATT EDGE (i have a contract with them *grumbles*) once you install the dolphin browser its real fast, certainly fast enough for me to browse bit tech forums, search google and do email in real time.

Its a nexus problem or tmobile problem, I am running an Acer Android which has similar specs and its flawless though it does run 1.6 not 2.1 like the Nexus.

It's just a phone firmware problem

well HTC does have its own phones. Wonder how the Nexus One stacks up against HTC's other offerings.
Would be better if Google could get an independent manufacturer to make them though.

would be great if Google allowed apps to be installed on the mem card

I also have had A Nexsus One for a couple of days, its a lovely phone indeed.
Using it on O2 with no problems whatsoever. Had to set up the sms and data services manually as expected, but easy
enough to find the info on the O2 forums.

Only complaint is its a little bit fingerprint-y

Other than that, peachy

Not correct, It comes with a UK mains adaptor and a usb cable that can also charge the phone.

Import duty may apply, I'm still waiting to see if i get hit. It's usually a bill that arrives a few days later.

If you root, you can use apps2sd, or you can wait for Google to release their update to allow that (they said they were going to allow it when they announced the N1).

Vodafone will be the primary UK carrier when they launch the phone in Q1 some time. Other operators might sign up though, it's not an exclusive.

Mister_X, what did the customs label on the outside of the package say? Did google declare it as electronic goods/$520 or just leave it blank?
Mister_X 14th January 2010, 11:16 Quote
ch424, I'll let you know when i get home tonight. Was too eager to get the box open to pay much attention at the time.

LOL The phone is great! Slick as hell.

No sign of the usual international waybill on the outside of the box so no decleration of electronic goods or otherwise. So maybe , just maybe no import tax......
Famous last words of course
