Here is the case the Sketch-Up guys had to start with...
The
MNPCTech Sketch-Up competition, in association with the bit-tech community, is due to end soon and these guys require your votes to pick the winner!
Every potential mod needs careful planning, and we realise not everyone has oodles of cash, time or physical skill to crack out a world class mod. However, that doesn't stop anyone designing a great looking mod!
Pick from the potentials below, then
vote in the forum thread and voice why you think your chosen Sketch-Up artist has the right design for a great looking case.
We could start a donation pot(about a dollar each) to buy the cheesecake with.
Here's how I would do it.
nice idea btw !
:D
It would be a bit unfair to those of us who have weak hardware or cannot afford the expensive programs - such as Sketchup Pro.
theirs not much difference my friend just different plugins and a few different bits :D most the stuff in pro most people never use
Nice idea dude, but I reckon if the idea is good, I'd be willing to buy you the cheesecake myself ;) If the prize was more expensive than cheesecake, like some hardware or something, I might actually have used a fundable account...
EDIT:
Otherwise we say Kerkythea only, to keep the contest "free" of expensive programs.
I'll still participate anyway, as this is about the fun, not the winning (as I won't win), but still it should be fair.
EDIT: modgodtanvir maybe you could make a lis tin OP of who is entering?
@bentleya, you may submit a design whenever you wish, and it will be added to a list in the OP. If you choose to amend the model, maybe add something, state that it is a different version, and I will amend this on the OP. After the final deadline, which atm is 31st Oct 2008, no more entries will be taken, and a pool will be opened to decide the winner.
A sponsor would be pretty amazing. I'll have a go at sending out a few emails, see if I can get a reply...
Is anybody else looking at the level of detail in this model and just thinking - WHOA!
How does a scanner, pen and a piece of paper sound?:)
But Sharnypoodle can't sketchup to save his life:(
Meanie :'( I'll probably not par-take then due to ma' arm.. Best of luck peeps...
(I bet the winner is gonna be one of: Dark-Energy Scooby or Nexxo)
Believe me dude, when I say it is the best time to learn. A month ago, I couldn't SketchUp a box, but after sticking to it for a few hours, I'd happily say I can do just about anything... honestly, just give it a shot ;) I look forward to seeing an entry from you.
Go on! Give it a shot! Its no Cobalt, but my god is it fun.
And apparently, neither have you seen my prodigious modding skills :p
I've also sent a few emails out, so I'll keep you all posted on the sponsor-obtaining progress...
MGT
then me amazed then mankz :D

angerfist - maniac killa was on the radio when I started modeling it(not realy a good track though, but I like the name)
still have a lot to do
BTW. can I post multiple mods ?
You can work on as many ideas as you would like, but to keep it fair for everyone else, I'll have to say that you have to chose your favourite to submit as your entry...
Mine is about 10% ready. I'll post up a pic when my front panel is done.
MGT
I had to read that 4 times before it stopped saying "Mankz Killah"
hee hee!
I AGREE!!!
here's a sneak preview:

I still have to do tubes, the GPUs and some small details.
:D
Top-notch work Dark~3nergy!
Its a long shot but is the box in the drive bays a UPS?
am i right?
If im wrong i apologise and very very very good work ;)

Yep, she's based on the new Nissan GT-R! Its not particularly beautiful, nor has it heritage and its not particularly expensive (qualities I look for in a dream car) but this awesome product of engineering has quickly become my favourite car. With mind numbing speed, and a design influenced by the PlayStation era of Gran Turismo and Gundam Wing, I wanted my case design to reflect all these attributes of the eponymous vehicle... So we'll have lots of aggressive angles, and style inspired by function. And of course, it'll need to be clever and high tech.
I'll fill you in a bit more on the design when I have a few SketchUp models to show you...
Regards until then,;)
MGT
modgodtanvir, could have been, but its a picoitx computer.
(And now I'm wondering which would win in a race)
Aah (I've got one in mine too... )
You know - you're actually right!
So now its a question of:
http://www.carzi.com/wp-content/uploads/nissan-gtr-garage-defend.jpg vs. http://image.sportcompactcarweb.com/f/car-news/mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-x/7194014+w640+cr1+re0+ar1/mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-x.jpg
Its crazy how similar they both look... I'll stick with the GT-R and change my design - make it more GT-R-like...
And the GT-R would kick the Evo's ass in a race
MGT
Ah awesome it looks great ;)
another progress pic.. file is now above 30mb.. my sempron's struggling! even with 2gb ram :S
Edit: Overclocked the Sempron to 2.2ghz... quick and easy 22% o/c via a Nvidia untility. running a wee bit faster.. until I make the file like 50mb :(
Wow dude, thats looking brilliant! >30MB?! thats crazy! Mine's like only 5MB
EDIT: Correction, 21MB! I didn't realise they got that big on Sketchup...
Big update coming soon. We have some pretty awesome prizes on the line. More on that later....
...oops. Can we give feedback? I live for threads with a lot of brainstorming.
This thread, as much as being a competition, is a tribute to the world of PC design, aiming to inspire and raise awareness of this awesome technology. It also promotes free software :p
cheapskate..... 2 steps head of you already done it but wont post a picture to sunday :D to i get some more done :D just having issuse with one bit at the mo but will sort it :D
lol, I didn't think at that :D
so I started with another one, more "extreme",
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/2218.jpg
:) Yes they are sweet :D But I'm not sure about my entry :( Time sucks. It's better if that competition was in the beginning of the summer not in the end
but I wish good luck for every one
@Dark~3nergy - I thought that might open the floodgates. I wish I had time to learn sketchup now... -p.s. Your case is still square. you're not chopping hard enough! :)
If it'll look anything like BlooBalls, I want to see it!
MGT
it's not finished yet ^^
great to see that they are some "better" prices, thought it would have been fun to win a cheesecake :D
Those prizes are indeed looking juicy... I don't know which I would rather have...
And I've decided to scrap the Nissan GT-R based project - not complicated enough. I'm designing something far cooler... and I'm quite tempted to try the Nissan GT-R idea on ,y own computer...
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=46003
And i better get on with my design then if i wanna win anything :D lol

@ Colt - The two rear fans in the model are indeed outside the case. I'm not sure if its meant to be that way (I would expect fans to be inside) since I don't own this case, but Scooby is usually pretty accurate... either way, you can make it however you wish in you own model.
Josh
So... I suppose that gives you over 2 months, which I hope is enough time for everyone who wants a go to get an entry in.

A lot of great designs already. I love watching the engineering that goes into these sketches.
Dark~3nergy, I really like your bezel design. I can imagine those vetical bars as polished aluminum or translucent red acrylic
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/bit-techdesigncompetition-1.jpg
Confusis, I'm in love with the heatsink styled side panel
Album of diff views: http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/cc207/alacoshi/StealthCase/
Unfortunately your album is password protected. Set it for public access if you want people to see it! --nexxo
Please note I did not put in any hardware except for the DVD drive because its about the case not the hardware right? ;) Plus rather that the majority of it be my work.
What would be absolutely awesome would be if you could incorporate some metal plates, riveted together, like you might see on the surface of some sort of Stealth aircraft... like you see on the metal in this image.
MGT
Edit: I'm working on it, it looks cool but does kinda defeat the whole "Stealth" theme, even though stealth aircraft do have rivets :/ I'll post up a draft soon and you guys can choose whichever is better looking.
ARG! had sketchup crash twice (getting used to the 'bugsplat' messages) already on this model

@Dark~3nergy - I am in love with that case, for real. Very, very, nice job!
@confusis - I totally agree with Bill, that side panel is sick!
Good luck to you all, I feel like I need to learn Sketchup now. My Sketchup skills are that of a monkey :D
*runs away*
mnpctech, thanks, I wanted the edges to be polished and the rest just sanded.
thanks Thacrudd :D

The color on the feet need to match too.
It'd also be neat if the top fins and front fins wrapped around the corners and met.
I really love the ideas with the 'heat-sinks' or fins, something that hasn't really been done!
I prefer the older release.
Rignt on Mankz!
I've been watching these guys and imagining a 1.5" thick clear acrylic cnc milled "heat-sink" style cover on a case I'm working on right now.
-With coolant running through it.
The case will be a giveaway prize!, worklog link
Wish i had even a bit of those Sketchup skills, because mine will never look like that!.
Very impressive!!!!!
I love that stuff. I just thank God I didn't have to pay for mine.:)
Just one thing...Glue an extra 1/4" sheet to the back of it in your favorite color.:D Trust me. The extra layer will make it look crazy if you polish it.
-Besides, 1 1/4" isn't nearly heavy enough.:)
Added bits
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/greenthingy1.jpg
I will take you up on that and experiment ;)
@ skullen, nice work, I'd love to see that one built and illuminated in person.
@Skullen - I like. The tapers on the side panel accents are a nice touch.
Make it orange instead of green and you have another Half-Life2 case mod.
Special thanks to all those who donate their models to Jazzle's Sketchup collection!
I may have another design in the works so this isn't necessarily my entry. :p

8x Serial ATA HDD's with custom cable channels
4x IDE HDD's with custom cable channels,
water cooling system with custom res,
psone screen, card reader and optical drive on front panel,
a few fans :p
Yeah It's the only thing I haven't managed to do decently.. I pretty much gave up. New design I'm working on is air cooled :p
The side panels are rather awesome. Apart from the tubing, I'd say it'd look pretty cool with two handles on the top, like the stands on the bottom... and maybe something more interesting around the PSOne screen...
Happy SketchUping ;)
MGT
EDIT:: I see you used a texture for the circuitry, what about the ports?
http://i34.tinypic.com/k96d54.jpg
Sorry for being so Off Topic but what do you guys think?
[edit]
How about just keeping the ATI part of the logo and stick the AMD part elsewhere on the case?
Kind of like this
Well that's it on the TJ03. Added the mesh which will eventually have a 240 rad behind it where the HDD cage is when I get around to sketchup again.
The only problem with removing the ATI/AMD bit is that it leaves the case a bit bare. I suppose I could put a window in.
Good call, I like the mesh backing too.
The mesh looks great!
http://i37.tinypic.com/14vrcqw.png
I templated the AMD Spider picture as a background and traced around it. Unfortunately sketchup can be a bit strange about what it thinks is a plane and what is just lines on a background so I had to go over each section a few times picking out all the little faults. I was planning on putting the spider where the ATI logo is ATM but I thought it might make a good window so I scaled it up (had to move it off the side to do that and then move it back on).
I didn't really want to put the ATI logo at the top of the web but then it all looked a bit out of place with nothing there. I might put the AMD Polygon there instead.
I also need more ideas as the rest of the case is still pretty stock. Hopefully most of the stuff I put in this will translate well to my upcoming project. :D
http://i38.tinypic.com/2lw4zl1.png
I put in three 3870x2s to be replaced by Scooby's 4870x2. Technicly they don't all fit because of the fans on the radiator where the drive bay was. I don't know if the full cover waterblocks will fit either with those fans in the way. Motherboard is an ASUS M3A32-MVP although not finished.
-back on topic: I'm playing with SketchUp too now, you b*stards! It hurts! -and it's this thread's fault!
Orange thingy

I like:D
-But now ya gotta change the front feet to curl around the front a bit.:D
(I'm going to keep doing this 'till someone kills me.)
One case foot? Don't know how stable that is, lol. I'm joking. Looks like I will have to try my luck, prizes and entries are getting very interesting.
yea, I figured the 1x case feet would prompt somebody to ask :D
I don't know, I generally buy smaller size stuff. Mrs mnpctech handles all of our bills and business paperwork. I'll ask if shes ever noticed and PM you. btw: 1-1/4" thick, 2' x 1' sheet of clear acrylic arrived today, 15-3/4 lbs!
This thread needed a bump anyway.:D
@modgodtanvir - where's your pics?
Another vote here! It looks much nicer in orange Skullen!
No record here, of oversize shipping charges in our records, but as i stated, we hardly ever order large items.. Best for you to contact Mcmaster directly
This is the guy who ships that Aluminum battleship case we ALL lust after all over. Whats a little plexi or alu?

We need more people in this contest!!! Where is everybody? This is fun! Get naked-er I mean, get to modeling.
(I just realised its your design not mine :p)
ROFL! I only shipped it once, AMD covers it's travel expenses now. (sigh of relief)

I almost forgot.. have you read this Laing DDC 3.2 (MCP 355) Pump Top Test Comparison? There's a "Possible Design Tweaks" section at the bottom that might be of interest.

-Where did DarkEnergy go? He was throwing designs like a MOFO last week.
My sketchup-skills/computer-hardware just seize up under the pressure as soon as I try to start anything.
We don't have the power capt'n!
:)
Agreed ^ I'd also consider a different window design so it flows better, maybe horizontal rectangles (that look like vents, or slots)
Agreed, can someone please upload a stripped down version of this model, so that people without dual-cores can play?
I started mine, after numerous crashes, a graphics driver update and model purge, but I can't show a picture yet cause it's just crashed on me again.
Bear with me.
Different window, fan on front same as top ????
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/orangethingy-4.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
Not finished yet obviously. I want to change the colour and sort out the drive bays. The idea is one which I may be using on my next case mod, but the fact this case has a door over the drive bays is a little difficult. Anyway, a real life version would have a hole in that part for optical bays to poke through.
That's acrylic at the front/top in case you can't see it properly, and at the bottom of the case I've extended the lip, where LEDs will go in order to illuminate the panel and the edges of the fan and button holes. Also the curve on the side panel isn't finished yet. Instead of adding a window, I'm adding radial slots on the side to let small amounts of light through.
http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r315/stuartwood1989/Mod-Comp-1.jpg
lol, I haven't been feeling very well the last days and I was realy out of inspiration.I tried to strat another case.
and your design is realy amazing Cheapskate !
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/bit-techdesigncompetition2.jpg
alot smaller ^^, but I still don't know what theme to use.
stuartwood89, nice ! you should maybe lower the plexi at the top and push it forwards a bit so it's like 20mm from the case.
skullen, maybe you should make thoes line more round, like great as it's now too ?
@modgodtanvir, I'm honored that you would chose one of my work. I must have been so busy cuz I just saw this just now. So what?...Can I play too?:D
it's over :(
:D
I look forward to seeing what you have to offer, and indeed, what else Dark~3nergy has up his sleeves.... though having said that, the quality of the rest of these entries is astounding, and might just have what it takes to throw the champs off their mantle...
MGT
So to all the SU party boys out their get a get a gallon of your favorite bev ready and get those creative juices going and have some fun. Good Luck to everyone.;)
Scooby;)
I just need to get used to SketchUp again since I've been working with Solidworks so much
HELL YES! Go postal! I don't even like cheesecake.
In fact...Has anyone given the (other) sketchup sticky threaders a heads up about this?
@Stuart - Nice faceplate. I can tell you from experience that the holes for the fans are unnecessary.:D No one is going to complain about the drive having an invisible door, (I hope. Mine's kinda sketchy there too.)
I'm doing this on a system I built for 3d modeling, but I'm lagging pretty hard too. Maybe it's the 30 million polygons I added for case feet.:)
@DE -Glad you like it.
That sounds good, I'll try that out and see how it goes. I'll probably end up drawing up a separate model later on for my own case mod (different thread obviously) and I'll factor that into a design as well. :)
I haven't used sketchup for ages, but it struck me as odd that it was lagging so badly, then I changed to wireframe view and I could see why. Just for reference to anyone else with lag issues: TURN SHADOWS OFF at least when you're working on the model, and maybe removing the fans will help as well, it certainly did for me, and you can always put them back in later. Anyway, if it wasn't so much for the lagging, I'd probably remove the door and somehow bring the drive bays that lay behind it forward, but I hope you guys get the idea :p
Thanks for the comments guys! I'll do some work on it tonight if I don't get too much homework from school.
@Dark~3nergy, you crack me up dude. I'm sure you got something awesome up your sleeve for this contest.;)
@modgodtanvir, thanks my friend, your very kind to say so. When modeling this case and since I have one the detail are very accurate hence it's file size and for those with slower rig a bit overwhelming to manage. So sorry for that but I think that is why modgodtanvir selected it for this contest.
BTW modgodtanvir, would the models have to be complete inside and out...interior and exterior detailed layouts?
I must say though that the cases I've seen so far are fantastic, keep it up everybody.;)
Scooby:p
Rounded bits added
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/orangethingy-5.jpg
Im getting there but im so slow :)
J/K man, really cool design. The way the feet flow with the case is really awesome.
The reason I chose this particular model was because, apart from being a fairly simple case, just asking for some modding, it is also a pretty awesome model. Everything from the thickness of the aluminium to the grouping of different parts and the accuracy of the model contribute to this little SketchUp based masterpiece. So again, a quick thanks to our pal Scooby
I am sorry for those who aren't able to run SketchUp on their computers. The reason I chose SketchUp was because it is freeware, and thus, everyone can have a go, and because from my experience, SketchUp is less straining on a computer system compared to other programmes I have used. I do wonder if an older, less feature packed version of SketchUp would be less of a drain on your systems...
And as far as the models are concerned, the idea is to express as much detail in your model, as you would in your very own modding projects. Often, as well as having a gorgeous exterior, it is important to have an intuitive and exciting interior to complement it. The level of detail you go to is up to yourself, but I am sure the Bit-Tech community can be the judge of how good your model is :)
In short, yes. This contest features an entire case, therefore the exterior and the interior. No less than what I would expect from you dude ;)
I'm really loving the progress I'm seeing with these designs,
MGT

-A try for Victorian steampunk. I wanted to do a more complex girder design too.:(
I can't even begin to tell you how many bugs I found making this. I should have been half done already.
Stuartwood hit the nail on the head. You should always reduce the render quality first if you have problems. Then there's the advice I give everyone: "Uninstall AOL instant messenger.":)
Kill all unneeded background programs. (Oh, hell this is BT...You people should know this already.)
very very nice Cheapskate i like that ;)
Actually I think that Sketchup is an excellent tool, and an excellent choice of tool to use for such a competition. Also funny you should say actually, cause I must have had an older version when I used it before, cause even the model of a shopping complex I made which used to run flawlessly, now lags a little.
@ Cheapskate: I LOVE those girders! Industrial style looks sweet.
I know this wasn't supposed to be a SU help thread, but this is bugging the hell out of me.

-I had all the objects joined properly, and everything was snapped to the surface. There are no crossed objects either. I'm still getting this happening.
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb255/cheapskate_02/_industrial2.jpg
-anyway, I cheated and repeated the same objects everywhere because of that problem. The colors represent dull bronze and tarnished copper.

http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb255/cheapskate_02/_concavular2.jpg
A little something I slapped together. Don't get me wrong, I still hate Sketchup.
It does bring up the question: how much are we allowed to change the actual physical design of the case before it starts to stop featuring the case as in the rules? I'm just curious.
Cheapskate that's freakin awesome! The side panel looks a little weird and complicated, but some well placed lighting should make it look sweet. I'm absolutely in love with the top and front though, especially with those handles.
Also what the hell is with the background?
Just what I was thinking lol
I finally bit the bullet and learned how to sketchup fairly decent so I'll be uploading my entry in a couple days.
Joe
@Thacrudd - ;) another entry! There's thousands of members and less than ten people building. -There's cheesecake people!!!
At last! we can now start to play decent games at our LAN parties lol
new entry - a htpc.. a HUGE htpc :P and aircooled as i can never get watercooling tubes correct in SU :/
i'm running su on a sempron 3200+ with integrated NVidia 6150 video (256mb selected in bios) and 2gb ram and it's smooth as (once I enabled hardware acceleration)

I believe it has a 5.8L V8, though I'm not sure... It might be from Sainsbury's or Tesco, depending on which supermarket I visit first :p
lol, my thoughts exactly.
I really am loving how this is going, and it really is inspiring what we can come up with... If only more people entered. I think I might try and persuade some people on other forums as well...
In the mean time, I have managed to get back to my mod (been busy with UCAS atm). I've made it a bit bigger and inverted the arrangement... I'll get a progress shot up soon.

I like this one a lot. It could be used on almost any square shaped case. Well done. The top rad(?) feature is way cool.
John
This has needed a good mod themed around it for forever. You'll see...
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newscooby.jpg
:D:D:D That would be incredible to be solid aluminum. And with a spot for a rad milled out of course.
LOL. It would be so worth it.
Here you go dude:

The download link is near the bottom of the page, it says 'Save File to your PC'.
Another thingy with added bits

So is that rad going under one of those fans then?
I like this one :D
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/anotherscooby2.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
skullen, I like the last one you submited, maybe you should make 120mm air intakes of thoes 3 rings on the front ?
$125.. ouch
Yes, they also remind of aqua-computer aquatubes
Would be nice to see more entries though... especially if its more of what we've seen so far :)
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/tf2cartsize2.jpg
but I'm soon finished with it so I can start on the competition case again.
im so confused
WHOA Wtf?! Dude, whatever that is, the model is just pure awesome!
It looks to be some sort of pressurized gas propelled water-going craft with an essence of old-school back yard build quality and a stove on the back...
Just out of interest, is that a Kerkythea render?
lol, it's the cart from team fortress 2:)
I didn't make that model(Valve did), I just "converted" it into a computer, added some details and made it more "high poly" and rendered it in 3ds max.
A country with the highest suicide rate in the world, makes a universe creation / destruction devise .. in their basements .. sounds like a formula for disaster
lol..
lol, switzerland is a great country, though I didn't know it had the highest suicide rate.
mnpctech, I'm going to
Awesome!, I'll look forward to watching that project unfold
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newthingy.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
i'm slowly working on mine now, might go back to the first idea though
mix of the old design and the new one :)
I really it! esp the top, like I said earlier, your first design inspired me to create a heatsink style top cover on an Antec 300 prject I'm working on ;)
Looking good confusis,very nice ;)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/anotherscooby3.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
John
nice idea skullen! on my other design i was going to keep the heatsink going over onto the front panel but on my design it looks tooo busy/over-complicated
I've scheduled it to be made this wed, if I can, I'll video the entire process.
Added a few more bits :D
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/anotherscooby4.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
Vey nice ;););)
John
Thanks for the reply John, appreciated ;)
diggin the industrial vibe of this design skullen ;)
The entire case needs to be milled out of a giant aluminum block. That would be awesome.
Another bit added :D
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/anotherscooby5.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
I like your latest version Skullen ;) It doesn't just look like a modded case anymore, it's unique and looks good. If it was made of solid alluminium chunks then it would be a nice looking passive case, for water or air.

hehe :)
@Skullen - All you need now are sawblades, and you'll have a fine killbot.
Wow, both confusis and Skullen's entries look like they're ready to go to war
MGT
@ confusis your on a roll now :) ;)
Back bit added

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/djs61/NEW%20RIG%20PICS/OhShit011000.jpg
It's not as exotic as the other here. I just prefer a more simple, sleek design.
Scooby
@ confusis, I like the translucent orange, very cool.
@ scooby, very stylish, look forward to seeing more ;)
Just................Wow.
Smoked Black and White opaque acrylic for the logo
btw: We started on that top panel yesterday, we're programming a lot of changes from the original drawing on the fly, so the process is taking longer than we anticipated. You have to very careful, obviously acylic will score or crack easily..ugh

Mentat? Bene Geserit? Dune books for the saying.
John
YAY!!! You're getting some really clean edges there. That should look crazy with some imbedded LED fans in it.
I've cut my teeth too much in costs/time, 2x 120mm blue leds fans will be as far as I'll go, I would encourage it's new owner to explore that idea.
Paul Atreides, when he is facing the test by the Bene Geserit. In the film, at least.

yup that's where the quote came from. :)
thanks for the comments!
btw: heres current stage of milling acrylic "heatsink" top panel, 45 degree radius edges
(if my design was to be built i think acrylic would be the material of choice for the 'heatsinks' due to ease of use)
Sadly, thick colored plexi is special-order only.
Cofusis might be able to glue 1/2" thick fins on a panel.
I finnaly got started on mine :
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/bit-techdesigncompetition2-1.jpg
Its looking good ;)
Ive done another one,not as mad as the other one :)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newscoobyidea1.jpg
There are some nice designs around :)
Thanks for looking ;)
btw. if anybody what's a model for their case I can make something, gpu, water block, or whatever... just ask me, I don't have much to do in the next days.
Any chance of a Koolance water block for the 4870X2? Or some Koolance disconnect and 45 degree nozzles? :D
Dude, that is seriously BLUE! I think you fused my contacts permanently to the eye balls.
Cheapskate,
@ jhanlon303 sorry about the contacts ill tone it down a bit later :D
Toned down for john
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newscoobyidea2.jpg

I also started to make the 4870x2 waterblock.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/4870X2withkoolancecooler.jpg
We finished the acrylic top panel. Again, inspired by the "heatsink" style side panel confusis made in his drawing here Thank you again for the inspiration confusis!

The block is looking fantastic!
I hope to see more plexi experimenting from you soon.
That's alright, just good to see I'm inspiring someone. Looks great!
Hows everybody's sketchs coming along? :)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newscoobyidea3.jpg
-meaning: I like the trapped channels you added behind the power button area, and it's too clean for a crazy person like me.:D
needs feet on the bottom though. :)
Added some feet

If I had your artistic skills and was proficient at using drawing/design software, I would post my design for my first system mod.
Sketchup is actually really easy to learn, you should try it.
Sorry to bore you with all my pics
Here,s another one

http://www.mnpctech.3dpixelnet.com/picture_library/acrylic.polishing.comet.mnpctech.com8.jpg
@Bentleya - Woah! I see why you wanted to know how far the original could be modded. Awesome.
edit: Hey mnpctech, if you ever come to CT, stop by Callaway in Old Lyme, you gotta drive the new cars man, almost 600 at the wheels!
thanks for the kind words ;) means a far bit coming from you
yeppers cheapskate its not finished yet but thats sort of a progress shots
the wound be several was it cound be done but one really expensive way wound be to mill it all out of a big cube of aluminm very expensive but wound look the best that way i may draw it up for a pico board and see how much it wound cost as it wound be a lot smaller
It was the Comet! it work wonders.. Thanks again Cheap ;)
@ jodah175, sounds fun!
Sounds cool bentleya, look 4ward to the next update.
Nice one bentleya,very nice ;)
Had another go :D

i love all this layers of stuff ;) keep ti up
Yea, and we'll know from a year from now if any case manufacturers were lurking at this thread
I didn't do much. I had to do some relocating stuff. (Is there any way to turn the d*mn line snap off?)
http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb255/cheapskate_02/_wtf1-5.jpg
triple cpu, triple SLI, Triple-Channel DDR3 ? :|
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc224/dark3nergy/333.jpg
Cheapskate, I don't think you can turn it off.
I think if you go to window and where you can change the measurements in model info it should say enable length snapping i dont know if this will do what you want but try it and see :D
josh
You might need to chop a hole in the bottom...
Knock yourself out dude!
Competition time is drawing to a close... just under a week!
says we got another month :D
Had another play, just added a few more bits :)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/newscoobyidea7.jpg
Thanks for looking ;)
still no update from me my mac is still not alive and i hope my local apple store will have a charge when i go on friday :D
@Skullen - That color scheme is awesome. The blue wrap-around fins are neat.
http://pic.leech.it/images/bdc4c2eawip2.jpg
Ho-lee CR*P, Froop! That's awesome. -At least you kept the motherboard tray.
Was the deadline really moved back to December? There's no way I can get something finished by Halloween.

A removable module containing HDDs and the motherboard in a LAN style case. Inspired a bit by the Hardcore Reactor although this one is aircooled.
http://i37.tinypic.com/219t4k6.jpg
The idea behind this is that instead of building a case around imersion cooling, you have a "module" with connectors and fill that instead, ready to be inserted into the case. The tubes could be used for directly filling the module.
They're a bit rough but they're just concept designs.
Very cool design Credits. Immersion too!... perhaps inspired by Hardcorecomputer's Reactor PC. I'll be getting to see one up close next week. I'm meeting with their CEO to pitch the idea of modding or custom painting one for `09 Consumer Electronics Show.
Awesome im very very glad that you contacted them :D
Josh
but
http://pic.leech.it/i/15c83/da586c96omg.jpg
took me over 5 hours to render, made this for a epic "modding and rendering in sketchup and kerkythea" how to, which i still have to type x.x (have bout 110 pics by now)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s184/kcisn22007/doublescooby.jpg

Twin PC case, one amd+ati machine, one intel+nvidia machine :)
http://img186.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bt22qr3.jpghttp://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php
When I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas, I'll try and focus on something completely different and unrelated. Get out of the house, do yard work or play a video game, watch a movie
I watch the dicovery channel :D;);) B) ;):D;):)
At last lol put alot of hours into the model to make sure all the components fit and are the right thickness ect, doesnt make a great visula difference but i just feel better that way.
Anyway here is a progress shot of it so far, there is alot of internal work left to do but for the most part the outside of the case will look like this, bar the top section which needs some mesh or something...
http://forums.bit-tech.net/picture.php?albumid=9&pictureid=15
I decided to call it the Penguin as tbh its as random as i could get!
On another note I haven't installed SketchUp on my PC yet, so nothing more from me for now. Will there be another competition next year?
