ChildLine sets up online support in Habbo

Tell the kids in your life to check out Habbo.

ChildLine, the helpline for children set up by the NSPCC, is setting up a virtual help community in Habbo, the pixellated online world.

Habbo is a chat-room-come-community, sort of MySpace mixed with Second Life. It's popular with kids in their early teens, and ChildLine has organised a series of events that it hopes will raise awareness of bullying.

ChildLine has lined up a number of celebrities to hang out in the world and discuss bullying, and is hoping that kids will log on and help each other out.

Habbo is a more obvious choice for this kind of experiment than Second Life, which is dominated by adult content, despite its 'Teen Life' client for those under 18.

Children looking for more information about the programme can head over to ChildLine's website, which provides help and information to victims of bullying and other childhood traumas.

If you have a child in your life, let them know about the project and get them involved - show the media that the internet isn't just a place for porn and violent video games!

Let us know your thoughts on the project over in the forums.

i use to go on habbo 2-3 years ago :D

untill i got 'rich,' bored and decided to sell all of my stuff for real monies

i only spend £2.50 in all my time there, although i made a healthy return out of it... something like £80 and that was with giving most of my stuff out for free and seriously reduced prices :)

i still have an account on there :) with the name ' :0 ' and over 100 credits (1 credit costs 10p!)

haha webbyman, I used to be in the same situation, had so much crap in that game, about 20 rooms full of furniture stacked with 2 rooms full off thrones before they became cheap.

good ol' early years :D

it gets a bit stale though after a way :/ especially when the admins ban your account and take away your items :X
