Dirt 2 system specs released

The PC version of Colin McRae: Dirt 2 may be a bit late, but it does have new DirectX 11 content.

Codemasters may be a little late in releasing the PC version of the rather good Colin McRae: Dirt 2, but at least the developers have been thoughtful enough to include some DirectX 11 enhancements to placate PC gamers.

If you're worried about whether or not you'll be able to handle the new graphics though then you might want to look below at the recently released hardware requirements for Dirt 2.

Recommended Specifications: Enhanced for DirectX 11
OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Intel Core i7 or AMD Phenom II
Memory: 3GB
HD Space: 10GB
Video Card: ATi Radeon HD 5700 Series

Minimum Specifications
OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Memory: 1GB (2Gb for Windows Vista)
HD Space: 10GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon X1500 orNVIDIA GeForce 6800

If you're more concerned about whether or not the game itself is any good then you can check out or review of Colin McRae: Dirt 2 on the Xbox 360 for more information, or let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Even if it is the X4, your overclocked Q6600 will be able to match its performance.
Q6600 is a legendary CPU. And, yes, I have one.

Seems a bit heavy for what is basically a slightly warmed up version of the last one.

i7? either really good use of 8 threads or complete waste of processing power.

also, 3GB of RAM? heard of pre-loading? it's a PC game, we don't want to see any kind of texture streaming in our high-end machines. there's 8GB of RAM there for a reason.

apart from Dx11 being PC exclusive, seems like another consolefied port. especially on the memory usage front.
technogiant 13th November 2009, 17:52 Quote
Relax.... the only reason it says core i7 is because Codemasters have been working with / having support from Intel on this game and with op dragon rising.......it'll run fine on a Q6600 particularly if you're ocing it above 3.0ghz

least its not a console port..

Recommended OS for DX11.....WIndows XP ?????

and the minimum specs do go from a single core P4 3GHz to a 4core/8thread monster on the recommended specs ?
Have they so badly coded this that any DX11 content is going to need that much of a markup ?
A core i5 won't be able to play games ?

Will be interesting to see if the claims about DX11 using system resources more efficiently are true. Free copy of the game already registered on steam at least.

What is the point of releasing Minimum Specs, everyone knows they mean sweet FA in real terms.

I think he's trying to say that Real gamers have PC's so high they never have to look at requirements. Or if its incompatible, they'll find a way to make it work.

I'd agree with that. Since Crysis, everything else has been pretty easy to run...apart from maybe GTA4...

With all the dumbed-down console sh** hitting the shelves from the likes of Activision, it is getting even easier.
