Top 10 UK PC games chart

Top 10 UK PC games chart

Popcap's Plants vs. Zombies enters the Steam chart in third place and pits plants against zombies, hence the name.

It’s a slow time for PC gaming at the moment, with only one new entry in the top ten – Eidos’ Battlestations: Pacific, the sequel to 2007’s Battlestations: Midway. It makes a modest splash at number nine in the chart. Further up the chart, Fallout 3 drops one position to eight, although its position may well be buoyed by the fact developer Bethesda has announced more downloadable expansions for the game.

There are clearly several people who don’t yet have World of Warcraft and they’re still enthusiastically snapping up copies of the Battlechest set and the latest expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. At the top of the chart, the positions are unchanged, with Empire: Total War continuing to sell strongly, and the latest version of Football Manager reigning supreme. You can see the retail top ten for the week ending 16th May below:

1 Football Manager 2009 (No change)
2 Empire: Total War (No change)
3 World Of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King (Last week: 5)
4 Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II (Last week: 3)
5 The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (Last week: 4)
6 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (No change)
7 World of Warcraft Battlechest (Last week: 8)
8 Fallout 3 (Last week: 7)
9 Battlestations: Pacific (new entry)
10 SPORE (No change)

Meanwhile, in the Steam chart, Battlestations: Pacific makes an appearance in an identical position to the ELSPA charts, but aside from that it features a very different selection of games. Valve classics such as The Orange Box and Counter-Strike: Source continue to sell well, but Popcap’s Plants vs. Zombies is the highest new entry at number three. It’s a tower defence game featuring Popcap’s signature colourful graphics and instantly appealing gameplay. The fact it’s only £6.99 no doubt helps, too. Top of the chart are two co-op focussed titles – Valve’s own Left 4 Dead and Tripwire Interactive’s Killing Floor. You can see the full Steam top ten below:

1 Killing Floor
2 Left 4 Dead
3 Plants vs. Zombies
4 Team Fortress 2
5 Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: The Complete Edition
6 Counter-Strike: Source
7 The Orange Box
8 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
9 Battlestations: Pacific
10 Empire: Total War

So is the one steam is selling a whole different game or just a re-make of a free mod ?

The Steam game is a more polished game (or so they say) by Tripwire... I bought it, but didn't have the time to test it... Maybe tonight... if I can get into a server...

Oh my killing floor is so rubbish I got a "sample copy" as a few friends parted with cash and immediately regreted it. what a waste of bandwidth that was.

I'm surprised CoD5: WaW wasn't in there - £15 on the weekend special was too cheap to pass up, for me at least.

Killing Floor is the commercial version of the original UT2004 mod, just to clarify. It's actually pretty good; there is a good variety of monsters and weapons, and there may only be a few levels but they are well laid-out.

Those who'd like to compare it to Left4Dead, don't; the only similarities are the co-op play and undead enemies. The game mechanics are very different.

I'm with reflux on this one, it is completely different though the premise may be similar... seriously, get a few good guys on your team, back yourself into a corner and feel the joy as the slow mo kicks in, heads start to fly and KER-CHUNK you've cocked your rifle again... i might be getting a semi

Becuase it's just not that good a game. This was Treyarch's turn, and as usual stuffed it up. Looks ok, plays poorly in single player and ok in multiplayer. Can't use it for clan ladders or comps as half the management needed for that simply isn't there.
COD4 still going strong though. Compare the two and you can see why WAW bombed.

Thank god Treyarch aren't doing COD:MW2!

Why in God's name are people still buying Red Alert 3?

Is it about time for Microsoft to bundle all versions of Windows with WoW and The Sims 2 preinstalled?

Because it is still one of the best games that has been released in the past year or so...
in short, lack of competition.

I felt ripped off after buying Killing Floor at first, then I had a good game... it's pretty fun once you get going. It reminds me of a cross between invasion mode in UT and Painkiller. I think it needs a little patching though, perks/achievements were broken when I played, and there was an exploit my mate showed me that hadn't been fixed since the original mod.
DriftCarl 21st May 2009, 07:16 Quote
is there any chance we could get actual figures for these games? I am amased that WoW is still in there and it would be interesting to know how many games it takes to sell per week to get into the charts.
