Popcap's Plants vs. Zombies enters the Steam chart in third place and pits plants against zombies, hence the name.
It’s a slow time for PC gaming at the moment, with only one new entry in the top ten – Eidos’
Battlestations: Pacific, the sequel to 2007’s
Battlestations: Midway. It makes a modest splash at number nine in the chart. Further up the chart,
Fallout 3 drops one position to eight, although its position may well be buoyed by the fact developer Bethesda has announced
more downloadable expansions for the game.
There are clearly several people who don’t yet have
World of Warcraft and they’re still enthusiastically snapping up copies of the
Battlechest set and the latest expansion,
Wrath of the Lich King. At the top of the chart, the positions are unchanged, with
Empire: Total War continuing to sell strongly, and the latest version of
Football Manager reigning supreme. You can see the
retail top ten for the week ending 16th May below:
1 Football Manager 2009 (No change)
2 Empire: Total War (No change)
3 World Of Warcraft: Wrath Of The Lich King (Last week: 5)
4 Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II (Last week: 3)
5 The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (Last week: 4)
6 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
(No change)
7 World of Warcraft Battlechest (Last week: 8)
8 Fallout 3 (Last week: 7)
9 Battlestations: Pacific (new entry)
10 SPORE (No change)
Meanwhile, in the Steam chart,
Battlestations: Pacific makes an appearance in an identical position to the ELSPA charts, but aside from that it features a very different selection of games. Valve classics such as
The Orange Box and
Counter-Strike: Source continue to sell well, but Popcap’s
Plants vs. Zombies is the highest new entry at number three. It’s a tower defence game featuring Popcap’s signature colourful graphics and instantly appealing gameplay. The fact it’s only £6.99 no doubt helps, too. Top of the chart are two co-op focussed titles – Valve’s own
Left 4 Dead and Tripwire Interactive’s
Killing Floor. You can see the full Steam top ten below:
1 Killing Floor
2 Left 4 Dead
3 Plants vs. Zombies
4 Team Fortress 2
5 Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: The Complete Edition
6 Counter-Strike: Source
7 The Orange Box
8 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
9 Battlestations: Pacific
10 Empire: Total War

EDIT: I just checked and yep its a UT2004 mod
available from here
it describes the mod as being
and the steam one is described as
so
In both you play a member of the military.
In both your fighting flesh eating monsters.
In both teamwork is important
In both you can interact with the enviroment to block doors etc.
So is the one steam is selling a whole different game or just a re-make of a free mod ?
Those who'd like to compare it to Left4Dead, don't; the only similarities are the co-op play and undead enemies. The game mechanics are very different.
Becuase it's just not that good a game. This was Treyarch's turn, and as usual stuffed it up. Looks ok, plays poorly in single player and ok in multiplayer. Can't use it for clan ladders or comps as half the management needed for that simply isn't there.
COD4 still going strong though. Compare the two and you can see why WAW bombed.
Thank god Treyarch aren't doing COD:MW2!
Is it about time for Microsoft to bundle all versions of Windows with WoW and The Sims 2 preinstalled?
Boobies?
Because it is still one of the best games that has been released in the past year or so...
in short, lack of competition.
