Max Payne 3 coming Winter 2009

Max Payne 3 coming Winter 2009

Max Payne is back!

In a somewhat surprising announcement, Take-Two has today revealed that long suffering New York cop Max Payne will be returning this winter, with Max Payne 3 heading for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

It’s been almost six years since we were last in Max’s wingtips, diving in slow motion through a film noir plot as dark and twisted as a liquorice lace which also packed a wicked sense of humour – few will forget the explosive Captain Baseball Bat Boy suit one of your enemies donned towards the end of the second game, only to meet an untimely and hilarious end.

Since then Max has also made it to the big screen in a (pretty naff) movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, but this is the first official announcement of the much-awaited third game. The story for the coming third game will apparently find Max in a city far from his native New York, dealing with a whole new set of problems and baddies with the familiar mix of slow-mo and gunplay.

Other than the title and the image of an older, more grizzled (and of course, blood splattered) Max details are thin on the ground right now though, with developer Rockstar Vancouver staying predictably tight lipped.

Are you pleased with the return of Max Payne? Care to hazard a guess at the game’s new location? Or has slow motion bullet-time just been done to death? Whatever you think, let us know in the forums.

I'm not sure if I'm happy about this. I loved the first two games a hell of a lot, and this game will need to be exceptional rank among the others, and I'm afraid that its going to go the way of all other recent third person shooters: console centric, featuring those chest high walls and end up crap

"The thought of a sequal penetrated my thoughts like rain caked bullets, fired from the barrel of a rusty six-shooter that had laid dormant in the holster of my own twisted memories. Those slow motion jumps, those noir-comics, that facial expression of someone who'd just eaten a wasp, all came flooding back like the flow of my enemies blood as it washed around my bare feet. As I stood in the mire of my own making, surrounded by the corpses of my own creation, crying tears of joy that could had been ripped from an angel's black-stained heart, I thought just one simple word: "Sweet" "

I loved MP 1&2 and still have my original copies.

Bauul - awesome post. I love Max Payne dialect, if only everyone spoke like that in real life?!

My personal favourites -

I don't know about angels, but it's fear that gives men wings.

You'd find that Lady Luck was really a hooker, and you were fresh out of cash.

Awesome, hopefully there is somewhere I can move to where we can all talk MaxPaynenglish.

Oh and super excited for that to come out, lets just hope Rockstar don't F it in the A.

this has got me thinking...

what dead IP's would you love to see resurrected?

The only one I can think of at the moment is the Legacy of Kain series of games, I know they've come full circle so it would be hard to tell much story but with so much lore, deep characters, Ive played al but the blood omen games and I still want more.

So guys what do you think?

Conflict Freespace. Those were a great couple of Space Sims, a genre that seems to have fallen by the wayside somewhat in recent history, along with XWing/TIE fighter series as well which was also really good until it got canned.
dtheg1986 23rd March 2009, 16:33 Quote
Dead IPs ? -

Little Big Adventure range - classic. that got me into games.
Day of Defeat - somehow made again much better than DoD source
Transport Tycoon - Modernised and made better maybe ? I loved TTd , saying that Open TTD is pretty awesome if anyone has checked that out.

Tyrmot - X Wing - Tie Fighter series was awesome, never enjoyed many other space sims bar those ones. I would love for that to be re invented.

LBA was classic but it also reminded me of Magic Carpet!

I really hate to perpetuate the thread jack, but think about this for one sec:

Crystal Dynamic has the Legacy of Kain license. Crystal Dynamic was eatten by Eidos. Eidos will be part of Squeenix in May of this year. May our minds wander. Personally, I am happy with any Eidos property coming back via the direction of Squaresoft: Fear Effect anyone? Hitman? Tomb Raider? Deus Ex? Thief?

Great to hear MP is coming back. Hopefully it will keep it's unique style, and not meld with another any of the other types of more recent Rockstar IPs.

BTW: I thought Baull's post was amazingly clever. Props sir!

Hmm... Remedy isn't making it so it will probably be crap. Sounds like it's already not going to be similar in style.

Pretty sure Rockstar made Max Payne 2....so
I personally can't wait. I'm going to go play Max Payne and Max Payne 2 again
Skiddywinks 24th March 2009, 00:28 Quote
Awesome, can't wait for this! Although I do have my doubts that it will live up to the excellent quality of some recent games, I have enough faith to trust them to do a good job.

Rockstar published it, Remedy was the developer.

I'm hoping that I'm wrong, but not having the original developer make the game doesn't sound like good news.

I loved MP1 and liked MP2.
High hopes on MP3. I was talking to someone inside my head that the only true inovative thing after MP1's "bullet time" was the "ghost bullet" from Jericho, wich, bsides its linearity, was a great game (Joe Martin disagree with me).

There are so many games i would love to see a sequel...
PS: Torment 2
Ultima 10
Ultima Underworld 3
Descent 4
Syndicate wars 2
Condemned 2 - PC!
Company of Heroes 2 - Something tells me that this one is on the way...
Fallout 3 - Bethesda made something pretty similar to FO series... I can't remember its name now... OOOo! I do now: Its "dark corners of the world".. Actually just published it...

And soooo many others....

Interesting. Seems like we can add this next to the new Wolfenstien in the list of games that are suddenly coming out that haven;'t been metioned previously before.

As for Alan Wake, well that's still being developed by Remedy while the article says that Rockstar Vancouver are doing MP3. So I guess Remedy licensed someone else to work on the IP (like Raven for ID games).
StooJ 24th March 2009, 02:45 Quote
The poor guy, has Max not suffered enough already? ;)

IP wise, I stumbled across a copy of No One Lives Forever last week and bought it immediately. Now to hunt up Max Payne 1 & 2 disks.

I'm not liking the art style of the new Max. If the style of that poster makes it into the game, then it'll be wrecked. He looks like he's been drawn by the guys that did the art for GTA4. The art itself looks great, but it's not Max Payne.
DragunovHUN 24th March 2009, 22:28 Quote
Okay Max looked significantly different in MP1 and MP2, i could accept that. But that concept art is just going too far! Also seeing as Remedy isn't working on it, i'm not getting hyped up over this. I'll just assume it's ****, and if it is i won't be disappointed, but if it turns out brilliant i'll be pleasantly surprized. Win-win situation.

OMG !

Good news :D...Hope that they will release a good game and don't disappoint the Max Payn players :P
