Ubisoft confirms seven new games this year

Among the new confirmed titles for Ubisoft's coming fiscal year are Assassin's Creed 2 and Red Steel 2.

Ubisoft has confirmed seven new releases for the 2009/1010 fiscal year, which starts in April. The new releases include some previously detailed, some rumoured and some newly announced titles for the coming year - all of which will be released by next April.

The first and probably biggest game on the list is the sequel to Jade Raymond's Assassin's Creed that was released in 2007 and then later re-released on PC as Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut.

Other existing titles that will be expanded upon in 2009 - 2010 include Wii shooter Red Steel 2, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon and an eventual release of the much-delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction.

The company will also be looking to start new franchises this year and will be doing a lot of tie-in work with movie studios, creating a total of four film-based games, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a game based on James Cameron's Avatar.

The major new title for the title however will be first-person survival game I Am Alive, which is set in the aftermath of a natural disaster and sees players having to scrounge supplies wherever they can to stay alive. While Jade Raymond had also been linked to this title, which is hoping to push the envelope in terms of player expectations, those rumours have since been rubbished and Jade is confirmed to be working on other projects.

"Although we have to be cautious in light of the current economic environment, we expect Ubisoft to once again be one of the most dynamic and profitable publishers in the games industry in 2009," said Ubi CEO Yves Guillemot in a press statement, later going on to confirm that Ubisoft would continue to expand it's range of casual titles.

Ubisoft is predicting a growth of five to ten percent in the coming year, despite the economical downturn that has prompted lay-offs for other companies. Will they manage it? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Not sure I care about AC2 now... its been so long (and AC was no 'half life'), if it gets some decent reviews for not being another innovative but boring grind then they might get my money on merit.

7 games which includes 4 movie tie ins, so really only 3 potentially decent games then....

I Am Alive certainly was one of the most interesting videos I have seen in the past year.

Here's to hoping the 2009 gaming landscape isn't quite as mind numbingly dull as 2008.

Isn't it all a bit adolescent that Jade Raymond gets squeezed into all news briefs regarding Ubisoft?
Apparently what she isn't doing is also news.

Hot tip: The "other project" she's on is me!

I wish they would confirm the winners of the Intel core i7/Far Cry 2 contest they hosted.
