While the wait for Left 4 Dead is over, those who pre ordered early will miss out on the Valve Complete Pack Deal.

While the wait for Left 4 Dead is over, those who pre ordered early will miss out on the Valve Complete Pack Deal.

If you’re anything like us, then the apparently never ending wait for Left 4 Dead (which ended today!) will have whipped you into such a zombie crazed frenzy that you’ll have had no choice but to pre-order the game as soon as it became available on Steam, especially with early access to the demo thrown in to sweeten the deal.

Sadly though, it looks like Valve has decided to make all of those who pre-ordered Left 4 Dead via Steam look a tad foolish by launching the Valve Complete Pack, featuring every Valve game ever, for just $50 more.

While $100 is a fantastic bargain by anyone’s standards, especially considering the quality of the games included in the pack, it certainly would have been nice to have had the opportunity to pick up this offer back when we were shelling out $49.99 for just Left 4 Dead alone.

Sadly that just isn’t an option though, and those who pre-ordered will miss out on the offer unless they want a second Steam copy of Left 4 Dead to send as a gift. That could be a good idea in the run-up to Christmas, but really, come on Valve, we like your offers but sort them out please! What about a general pick-and-mix offer with savings? You've left at least one of us crying in frustration in the office!

Did you pre-order Left 4 Dead and feel like you’ve missed out or do you already have all of Valve’s games anyway? Let us know in the forums.

You know. Sometimes I am really glad I don't buy any Valve games.
Quote cjmUK 18th November 2008, 16:10
On paper it sounds like a good deal, but most people already have all or most of these games. Certainly there is nothing here that begins to be worth the extra $50. Especially when my L4D pre-order cost me £20 ($32).
Quote chiper136 18th November 2008, 16:18
Just played though the first movie of Left 4 Dead. Worth every penny. And TBH the percentage of people that pre-ordered left 4 dead but don't own any other valve games must be very small.
Quote steveo_mcg 18th November 2008, 16:36
Honestly the only games from that pack i don't have are the early hl games and tbh they're not worth $50. So who doesn't own the orange box and went on to pre-order l4d?
Quote bowman 18th November 2008, 16:56
But.. I have every Valve game ever. As long as Blue Shift doesn't count.
Quote zimbloggy 18th November 2008, 17:00
They probably figure that if you pre ordered left 4 dead that early you already own at least half of the valve games already.
Quote Denis_iii 18th November 2008, 17:06
great package for someone new to steam and interested in the classics but not for me, am happy with my standalone L4D preorder
Quote Syphon Filter 18th November 2008, 17:26
Valve are just flogging a dead horse now. They did the same thing with Half Life 2 on PC, then Orange Box etc.

It's getting a little long in the tooth now.

You sir, are missing out on some of the best games EVER!

I must admit this is the second time they have done something like this. But everything else they do I love. They still beat EA any day of the week.
Quote pendragon 18th November 2008, 18:07
really Harry.. I think you're making a big deal about nothing .. so Valve made a new pack of games that cost twice as much .. I don't see anything foolish about paying less than half for a brand new game ..especially as most people pre-ordering (I'd wager) already have a majority of those games
Quote Veles 18th November 2008, 18:14
Because the people who preordered L4D for $50 don't already have all the Valve games they want
Quote mikeuk2004 18th November 2008, 18:34
is it out already?

I beg to differ.

I bought HL1, and yes, that was good. That said, the appeal of the games they cough out has gone down since that game. That's not to say they're bad games exactly, just that they do not appeal to me. I realise that my post came across a bit.. "Valve suck" but that's not what I meant :B
Quote glaeken 18th November 2008, 19:22
I don't understand. I saw this on steam at least a week ago.... Actually the same time I pre-ordered if I remember correctly, which was three days before the demo came out.

Besides there's a lot of junk in there. Seriously, the valve Day of Defeat, Ricochet, HL: Deathmatch, TFC, CS:Condition Zero, good luck finding servers for those games. As much as I loved (I mean really loved) TFC, you can't play it anymore. Last time I checked on servers was about a year ago. I think there were 4 and all had mostly bots. And DoD died when valve took over let alone when the source version came out.
Quote WildTangent 18th November 2008, 19:40
Besides L4D, I've already got every Valve game. I imagine most people that pre-ordered have more than a couple as well.
Quote quack 18th November 2008, 19:59
I just looked at the contents of the Complete Pack and guess what... the only thing I don't actually own yet is Left 4 Dead.
Quote HourBeforeDawn 18th November 2008, 20:29
hmm I have had or played all of those games and the ones I play over and over I currently have installed so I dont know if thats worth it for me or not..... hmm ya I dont think I will go for the deal, sweet yes if it wasnt for the fact that at some point I owned all of those games ~_~

Yep.
Its a great deal for a newcomer, though.
Quote pizan 18th November 2008, 20:36
I already have every valve game (except CS:CZ). Hell i even have a few extra copies of games, but this would be good for a new steam member...but then why would they have per-ordered it at all. Please save this article for when people complain about Valve not giving and discounts on old games. They have been offering the valve complete pack for around $100 for a few years now and they just keep adding games to it.
Quote StephenK 18th November 2008, 21:17
Having played nothing other than HL1 and the original DoD, that pack looks like a very sweet deal to me. I accept that I am a particularly deprived case though :)
Quote 1ad7 18th November 2008, 22:29
Im ****ing pissed..... also they aparently are doing a 4 copies for 150$ in the US atleast and me and 3 buddies missed out on that too.... im a little upset.....
Quote quack 18th November 2008, 22:46
Oh yeah... and I'm not buying L4D from Valve either, especially when Play has it for £22.99 at the moment.
Quote Darkefire 18th November 2008, 23:13
I saw the offer, still bought just Left4Dead the day before the 10% off deal ended. I figure there's nothing in that pack I don't already have that I'd actually want (Condition Zero, etc.), because the combination of the Half Life 2 Collector's Edition, Orange Box, and Left4Dead gives me pretty much every Source game save for Day of Defeat (which I never played anyways). I can appreciate the original Half Life games, but I just can't play anything that looks like old ass when there's so much good stuff coming out right now.

And Left4Dead is amazing. I'm guessing the lack of full review is due to Joe and the rest still being glued to their monitors?

Ditto, I just bought 4 copies (preordered) at $45USD each then they go and release the 4 pack for $150USD. WTH Valve? Thanks a lot :( That actually makes me think about not preordering their games, in case the real savings come the day of release.
Quote metarinka 19th November 2008, 03:19
I'll be p;icking up the complete pack in a few months, only thing I own right now is original hl and Cs, played hl2 but never bought it (played on friends computer) same for portal.
Quote salesman 19th November 2008, 03:22
Just wait guys for hl2 ep3 to come out then they will throw in the monkey wrench.
Quote docodine 19th November 2008, 03:23
I only own Counterstrike and Half-Life, so this will be a definite buy.

Best Shooters Ever: $100!
Quote Loot3r 19th November 2008, 04:34
pre-order is just another anti piracy method if u ask me..... what does it help except that u get a little more ass kissing :P

Yeah, I'll have to buy a crap load of games again to get that too. :(
Quote p3n 19th November 2008, 08:25
Only thin I would get out of the pack would be DoD source :<
Quote [USRF]Obiwan 19th November 2008, 10:17
I allready have all the Valve games and with the Orangebox I got a few double. So if i go for this i got every Valve game and some Triple!

i rather have a option to trade in all previous games and get the new one for FREE
How about that Valve?
Quote chimaera 19th November 2008, 10:25
Like most everyone here I have the entire pack already, and in some cases more than once (Half Life, and then all the duplicates thanks to the Orange Box) but its a good deal for the uninitiated...

As has been pointed out here, since the pound has dropped against the dollar recently Steam games aren't nearly the value they were - I picked up all of the Rockstar games, all the iD games and all the Unreal games for £20-25 a shot (gotta love those discount weeeknds) but buying Left4Dead through Steam right now will set you back £39.21 against paying £20 on Amazon or £23 on Play, and the only penalty is having to wait a couple of days to crack on...

Of course new stuff by 3rd party big name devs has always been painfully expensive on Steam - Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 being two big examples - but usually Valve's own stuff has been hugely competitive pricewise...
