Valve may already be set to give gamers the first details of Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Valve, in a typical teasing of Half-Life 2 fans, has hinted that it may be readying to show off Half-Life 2: Episode 3 (Manchester United: 0 - Ed) by the end of the year.

Doug Lombardi, in a chat with Kikizo, confirmed that although the development process for Episode 3 will be longer than the gap between Episode 1 and Episode 2, the first looks may be ready by the end of the year.

"The next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between Half-Life 2 to Episode 1, and Episode 1 to Episode 2," said Lombardi in a voice that made a thousand eager HL2 fans cry out in anguish.

The good news however quickly followed, with Lombardi mentioning that they may be set to announce or show 'something' at the end of the year.

The Half-Life Episodes were originally meant to be released with short, regular gaps between them. Unfortunately, Valve has spent so long expanding and refining the games that the releases have each been massively delayed and staggered - though the quality at least is top-notch.

Are you eager to see what happens to Gordon Freeman and Alyx in Episode 3, or do you already have an idea about what may lay in store? Let us hear your speculation in the forums.

Best go finnish ep2, shouldn't have started tf2 until after i'd completed the last episode... can't wait. At least that'll be one game i've bought.

i was fortunate enough that ep2 dl'd quicker and updated quicker TF2, otherwise i'd be in the same boat.

Best grab HL2:EP2 and TF2 and Portal before this comes around then. Oh how I wish they'd release the Black Box.

HL2:EP2 was great you guys are missing out.
I would recommend playing it. Don’t want to give anything away but it’s worth playing till the end…

Next thing we know, they are going to have another "Ending Leak" just like this one.

/\ Joe you mean. I can't wait for this, episode 2 was thrilling. Do we know if this is the final part of half life though or will they make half life 3?

I hate these episodes, don't get me wrong, Valve makes good games, but you seem to have to wait an awful long tiome for 3-4 hours of gameplay, i would rather wait a long time for HL3, seems the episodes lack the pull of a full fledged game, by the time you really get into it it is over.

Can't wait, although EP1 was a big let down, EP2 was great. Just hope they keep the high standards of EP2 up for the next installment

Sorry to double post but I forgot all about left 4 dead, that's really high up on my wish list at the mo...

Still haven't played Episode 1 or 2 yet (got them on the 360).

I can't wait until Episode 3 finally comes out, I just hope it's as ftw as EP2.

Should ep3 be set on a ship?
Quote TheoGeo 15th October 2008, 14:38
Well considering that i never actually got ep2 to work on my pc, I'll probably not bother investing in ep3
Quote TreeDude 15th October 2008, 14:43
As much as I love my 360, this one is a PC buy for sure. I cannot wait. The HL series seems to be the only games I get really excited for anymore.

PLaying through HL2E2 now and loving it. E3 is going to be in a weird place story wise because it needs to bring the story to some sort of conclusion while also setting up for whatever comes next. That said, I will definatly be buying it!
Quote pendragon 15th October 2008, 18:53
looking forward to it.. half life 2 isn't exactly my favorite type of subject-matter(story-wise), however the team at Valve did such a great job I can't help but want to know what happens next! .. I'm sure Left4Dead will tide many over until it's (episode 3) released.
Quote johnnyboy700 15th October 2008, 19:26
Can't wait for this one, I soooo want to see what happens next.

Hey maybe we'll see some along the lines of another Orange Box!
Quote Darkefire 15th October 2008, 20:52
Drool. Now that I've finally gotten my RAM fixed, I should get back to Episode 2. Episode 1 was okay, but it felt like I spent the entire six or so hours fighting through a zombie horde. Episode 3 should hopefully be epic, although at the rate Valve is going we'll finally see Half Life 3 sometime around 2015. It'll be awesome, of course, but the insane development times makes me think that they've moved beyond "diligent" into "obsessive-compulsive." Good thing they've successfully trained their fans to sit patiently without making a mess on the rug.

Not quite. We make a mess on the rug every time they release a new game. Sort of a Pavlovian thing :p

Hope they flesh out the mystery man in the suite. It's about time we learned a bit more about where he's coming from and how he's tied in to the whole Black Mesa/Alien invasion thing. Is he part of a government agency? Timelord?. :|

What else is expected to be in the mix? Portal 2?
