Grand Theft Auto 4 will be released on the PC in late November this year.

Grand Theft Auto 4 will be released on the PC in late November this year.

Rockstar Studios has officially confirmed and given a release date for the PC version of the massive console hit Grand Theft Auto IV, for both North American and European territories.

In North America the game will be launching on the 18th of November, whereas the game will be released a few days later in Europe on the 21st.

"It looks and plays beautifully on PC" said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "We can't wait for people to play it."

The PC version of the game was always on the cards, but had existed only as a rumour even though previous games in the long-running series had all previously made the jump to the PC platform. This is however the first time that the game has been officially confirmed for the PC.

The Grand Theft Auto series has had a controversial history and this latest title is no exception. GTA IV tells the story of illegal immigrant Niko Bellic as he makes a name for himself in the underworld of Liberty City.

GTA IV was released on consoles worldwide on the 29th of April, selling almost 8.5 million copies. In our own bit-tech Grand Theft Auto IV review we gave the game a 9/10 and a recommended award, so we're hopeful of the quality of the PC version.

Do you plan to pick up the PC version of GTA IV, or are you firmly sticking with the console version? Let us know what you think in the forums.

I might try the GTA games again, I haven't played any since the original GTA on the pc, which I've still got in the bottom of a box somewhere in the loft - I wonder if it'll run on XP.

Anyway, yep I'll give GTA IV a go just to see what all the fuss is about.

Meh, Was looking forward to it, but bought on 360 and very dissapointed with it....
Very nice world and all, but it's so empty, it's just not as fun as the pervious games.

Incredibly overrated IMO :(

Well i've got my x360 pad now so it should be easier to play that GTA3 was on keyboard and mouse.

HAve to agree with hugo, i also bought on xbox. There was something missing. Dont get me wrong its a good game, the gfx and sound, story etc are great. But it just wasnt as good as san andreas.

I might have a second look at it for the pc. If just for the acquaintance of Brucie!
Quote slugs 7th August 2008, 12:46
finished it on my xbox. well just need to kill all the pigeons and got bored looking for them. might get it for my pc as well. i have all the others in the series. and i did enjoy them more on the pc
Quote Timmy_the_tortoise 7th August 2008, 12:46
Gotta agree with what a couple of others have said.. GTA IV on 360 was a disappointment.. It just wasn't as fun as San Andreas was.
Quote shigllgetcha 7th August 2008, 12:53
its a good game i really enjoyed it (58 hours to get 100% so id want to have) just dont expect it to be the best game ever, it wont change your life lol
Quote Yemerich 7th August 2008, 13:13
That english pair in GTA: SA was one of the most fun NPC i ever saw! Not that they could be compared to Morte but anyway...

November 18??? too much time until them! So looks like the best games are all coming to a port on PC (shame on Halo 3).

same here. i want to use keyboard+mouse while saving that couple hundred quid instead of buying PS3.

hopefully us PC gamers will be able to put a 10x distance mod just like San Andreas. that'd make it look better. PS3 version i've played just lags and feels all foggy.

I agree with wuyanxu.

Although the majority of people (console scum) don't notice it, or just don't understand it - the performance of IV on the consoles is absolute crap. With the exception of when you're staring at a wall, the game consistently runs between 15-25 fps, which for seasoned PC gamers such as myself, is visually unacceptable. Through much optimization, they've pulled off rendering the game just smooth enough so that it' not a slideshow, while rarely surpassing the 30fps mark.

Since the game was released, I've been highly anticipating the PC version so I can finally play it with the framerate and IQ it deserves.

My GTA Dream: IV on a 1080p 120hz FPD... with v-sync. Just think about it.

a cheap 8800GT or 4850 will be able to own console graphics and performance if the developers put their heart to utilising the 4GB PC memory available and shader power.

while true, dont forget that most games are simple 1-1 ports these days and nothing more, which then kills a big part of the advantage the pc has.

and i say Death to consolification !!!

if the game engine is customisable enough (like GTA3) we'll see more mods to take advantage of flexibility and power of PC

well, i can respect your decision in having a simpler gaming machine but i personally think that the extra cost which pc's have is well worth it. you've got a larger and better choice of peripherals, cheaper games, you always have the highest end hardware, better controls (mainly for fps's and rts's) and much more mature people who play online so they dont exactly get on your tits with immature comments a la xbox live or psn kids. i'm not bashing/arguing with you, just stating my 2 pence.

anyways, i just hope rockstar nails the car controls, i found it nearly impossible to play vice city with the keyboard for driving. mods would be nice but i dont think thats gonna happen. oh yeah, i hope they bundle that DLC the xbox gets with the pc version:p

From Rockstar Propaganda

We are proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto IV will be arriving for the platform it was birthed
on this November. Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC will feature everything from the acclaimed
original console releases, along with newly expanded multiplayer just for the PC and more.

Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC debuts on November 18th in North America and on
November 21st in Europe. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more details.

The multiplayer on the XBox is not up to much. The usual max 32 players and to many screaming kiddies. Hopefully we'll get 64 players and better server listings etc.

Here's to living in hope.

wasnt it 16 players on the consoles?
Quote Saivert 9th August 2008, 09:02
Grand Theft Auto belongs on the PC period. I had great fun with Grand Theft Auto 1, and I even downloaded the suspicious mods for that game. I understand why Rockstar wanted to make console games as well, but they must never forget the roots of Grand Theft Auto.

I played GTA IV on the XBOX 360 the other day and I feel handicapped when moving around. The controls suck. I think I will never get used to that auto-aim "point in the general direction of the enemy" system and the funny way you move around in the levels.

Give me my keyboard and mouse please!

the storyline is a 1:1 port, but they have to retool the graphics engine to run on a PC. as long as they're playing with the code, they may as well optimize it for computers, and improve the graphics

As far as I know games for the xbox360 are relatively easy to port too the PC without having to change too much code. This of course depends on choise of programming language and physics engine.

im not that mad into graphics so i dont mind the compramise, and im not happy having to upgrade even if it is only every so often, more hastle that i need from gaming. i do miss rts's tho, alot lol
