Sony is adamant that they need no exclusives to make the PS3 a success.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai has said that even if he were given a simple yes/no choice then he still wouldn't be interested in launching an Xbox 360 exclusive on the PlayStation 3 and would rather be shot than be forced to do so.

Microsoft on the other hand don't have any such qualms, having recently secured the right to publish Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360, stealing the thunder of what had previously been a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Asked by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet (via Kotaku) which game he would want for the PlayStation 3 from the list of Xbox 360 exclusives, Kaz Hirai said that he did not want any of them at all...

Aftonbladet: If you had to choose ONE exclusive Xbox 360 title and launch it for the PS3 instead, which game would it be?
Hirai: I don't think I have to choose any.....
Aftonbladet: You have to pick one.
Hirai: Again, I don't think I have to pick one because we have such a fantastic lineup of games.

Refusing to give up, Aftonbladet told Kaz it was a matter of life and death, but Hirai remained firm.

Aftonbladet: But if someone is holding a gun to your head and you have to choose one. Which game would it be?
Hirai: Okay...then they have to shoot me, because I really don't think we need any.

The comment harks back to Jack Tretton's insistence that Sony refuses to pay or provide incentives to developers to create games exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Which game do you want for the PlayStation 3? Let us know in the forums.

Really? Not even Halo? I'm sure that would help their profitability just a little...
Quote chiper136 25th July 2008, 11:22
I think something like halo would do more to fuel fan boy rivalry than help sales. But maybe if they got a game that had yet to been released on the 360, then the ps3 fanboy's wouldn't be reluctant to buy a '360' game.

what a strange interview
Quote cjoyce1980 25th July 2008, 11:28
Hirai is such a lair!!! of course he would pick any 360 game over a game like haze....

i would!.... seriously!!! have you played that POS!!!

He said "I dont think I have to, because" There is a big difference between 'want to' and 'have to'. does not mean the same thing.

Gears of War 2 would be good.
Quote M4RTIN 25th July 2008, 11:53
hmm more bs, why do both sony and microsoft do it so much, just makes fanboys even worse.. anyway i'm off to use my ps2 to control some icbms
Quote Gunsmith 25th July 2008, 12:28
xbox games are GOOD because the people playing them are ****.
Quote Boswell 25th July 2008, 12:40
lol, a bit of waste of an interview imo (not that I read to see if there was much else going on in the interview but still...) If they admitted to liking any game it could be soo badly misinterpretated - 'Sony jealous of Xbox games' etc etc.
Quote freedom810 25th July 2008, 12:54
I do admire his courage for not giving up but sony really need more exclusives to make me buy a ps3.
But if i had the choice over a console id pick the ps3, im not really sure why.
Quote lewchenko 25th July 2008, 13:38
Well there are a few exclusives on the 360/PC platform that I would like to see on the PS3... whether this guy wants them there or not !!!!!

These may not be to everyone's liking but ....

Viva Pinata (the original plus the upcoming follow up)
Supreme Commander (a 360 / PC exclusive)
Halo Wars (a decent looking RTS game on the 360 only)

I couldnt care for the Gears of War or general Halo trash though.
Quote rollo 25th July 2008, 13:46
dont really get this

there should be no exclusives on consoles

all games for all consoles then you buy what you want.

My thoughts too

I don't want to be forced into buying multiple consoles to play particular games, exclusives are bad thing for a lot of gamers
Quote pizan 25th July 2008, 14:09
i agree with the above, but I don'tunderstand one a company agrees to make an exclusive title. Then they go make a deal with the other console? Anway, console games are pretty lame to begin with.

2 of those are RTS games - why would anyone want to play an RTS on a console?!
Quote D3s3rt_F0x 25th July 2008, 15:54
If this is correct then Xbox are just giving there customers more choice and arent limiting people to just one console to play games which is fine by me.....aint seen any PS3 games i acctually want to play yet like.

..since when did these companies value gamers over money?

that's too much pride for sony if you ask me, considering they really have a bit of a problem with lineups on good games (yes there are good, great and fantastic games on the ps3, but compared to the WII & Xbox360 I think you get my point :) )

I think a lot of you are missing the point - Sony's standpoint is that they refuse to pay, or offer extra incentives, just to get an edge. That's a bit of an ethical higher ground.

Sony!??? on the ethical higher ground? HAHAHAHAH

all the Microsoft OS crap aside Sony is by far on the lower ethical ground overall.

Everybody KNOWS microsoft is scum most of the time, and they just want to make a buck.... but remember Sony and their rotkit music CDs? etc etc... yeahhhhh

at least the 360 has an awesome team behind it, driving the console further and further in the right direction... can't say the same thing about Sony.

there windows server software is hopeless. Vista anybody? how long did xp take to patch and get working. ? xbox 360 has its issues
red ring of death that was denied for 1 year then give 1 billion dollars to fix. the noise it makes kinda rules it out for night time play .

pc all the way for me. Most if not all 360 exclusives come to pc .

I find they are banking on honor (has anyone noticed that they are Japanese?) instead of profitability. The PlayStation, although their largest expenditure, isn't the only electronic device or digital entertainment Sony floats on. Consider the enormous Sony Music Group, their even bigger Sony Pictures, SOE, portable media players, and Ericsson.

SP2 came out in 2004... so 3 years. Blue screens were still common well into SP2 as well... been using Vista for 3 or 4 months and it's never crashed on me and recovers itself without anything more than a "notice" if a dodgy 3rd party driver dies.

Some people have extremely short memories. Vista is already much better than XP.. I wouldn't go back if they paid me.

Have to agree here

Whilst i don't approve of many of Microsoft's policies, they're definitely the lesser of two evils when you add Sony into the mix...
Not sure i'll ever be able to forgive Sony for their utterly astounding levels of arrogance during the PS3 launch and their blatant disregard of any decency towards consumers with the whole CD rootkit scandal...

Yes MS are bad as well, but not nearly as bad as Sony...

never had one blue screen at the fault of the OS, only when i did something like overclock or add bad third party drivers did i ever get a Blue screen and that was twice!

Hear hear.

I'm really tired of hearing about Halo, on which basis you'll have to excuse my constant banging on about it.

Paging all fourteen year old 360 owners: Any of the Halo series is not a very good game. It's an average game, even a boring game. It's a game which embodies exactly what's wrong with consoles, in that it's had all the heart and soul ripped out of it to make it maximally inoffensive to the largest possible number of people.

Enjoyment of Halo signifies one of two things: very, very successful neural reprogramming by the Microsoft publicity machine, or a distinct lack of imagination.

Combat evolved? Combat made exactly the damn same as every other FPS, you mean...

I bought an Xbox (almost) exclusivly because of Halo3, I wanted to finally see what it was all about, that day was the largest disapointment of my life. It is a POS, made HAZE look passable.

I'm considering getting a PS3 just for those two..
