Judge Dava Tunis has recommended that Jack Thompson be permanently disbarred.

Judge Dava Tunis has recommended that Jack Thompson be permanently disbarred.

Judge Dava Tunis, who is currently presiding over the Florida Bar's disbarment case against Jack Thompson, has recommended that Thompson be considered for a permanent disbarment and not just the ten year suspension that had originally been asked for.

Gamepolitics managed to obtain a copy of the judge's recommendation for the case, which indicated that Judge Tunis did not believe the ten year suspension the Florida Bar had been pushing for was going to be enough.

Throughout the case Jack Thompson has been highly critical of Judge Dava Tunis, openly calling her "mentally impaired" and a "raving wild woman".

In addition to the permanent disbarment, Judge Tunis has recommended that Thompson be made to pay a $43,675 fine for the legal costs incurred by the Florida Bar in this case.

In May, Thompson was found guilty of 27 out of 31 charges made against him in a misconduct suit relating to his campaign against computer game violence.

Do you think Jack Thompson should be disbarred, or is he just misunderstood? Do you object to his views on video-game violence, or just the way he campaigns for them? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

I'm sure it helped him when he said the judge was, "mentally impaired"...

The moron deserves all he gets.

I don't disagree with his views (That's not to say I agree with them, but those are his views and to flat out tell him he's wrong (As much of a raving numpty as he can be) is just as bad as him telling us that we're all psychopaths in waiting) - I just hate the way he goes about preying on the unfortunate people who're involved with violence, be it game or not (V-Tech anyone?).

Misunderstood like that crazy, drunk, uncle that the rest of the family tries to ignore out of sheer embarrassment.

Good point, well made.

But then again... Who knows what Jack Thompson is capable of, even after being hacked to pieces by the bailiff.

God, if he came back to life we'd never hear the end of "God wants me to combat video game violence" until someone chucked him in the sea..

What a prize tool! calling the judge "mentally impaired" and a "raving wild woman" really isn't going to help your case is it...

He deserves more than they give him, I second the "permanent dismemberment"

There's something a bit supernatural about the man. Eeeevil supernatural.

If he did, he'd be the perfect candidate for exploring outside the solar system. Either we'd lose him, or he'd come back in a few hundred thousand years and get fired into the black hole that replaced the sun.

Or it'd be like Event Horizon..

GTA V needs to have a character named Jackie Tomlinson or something equally similar who goes around protesting about game violence in the same manner. A radio talk show character. Just for fun :p

We NEED more people like him (and I'm being serious) but fighting for the right cause. To bad he turned to the stupid side and went after video games, when there's problems like internet freedom being presented. :/

Not you obviously. Sun has around 6 billion years left in it. And will never become a black hole.

Seriously? :|

Quoting the judge:
Quote:
Additionally, the Court is taking into consideration a review of the Respondent’s conduct not only as proven by the evidence, but by what this Court has witnessed of the Respondent’s behavior throughout the eighteen (18) months of litigation. The undersigned finds no evidence whatsoever to indicate that the Respondent is amenable to rehabilitation, or even remotely appreciates the basis upon which a need or purpose for such rehabilitation is warranted...

Over a very extended period of time involving a number of totally unrelated cases and individuals, the Respondent has demonstrated a pattern of conduct to strike out harshly, extensively, repeatedly and willfully to simply try to bring as much difficulty, distraction and anguish to those he considers in opposition to his causes. He does not proceed within the guidelines of appropriate professional behavior, but rather uses other means available to intimidate, harass, or bring public disrepute to those whom he perceives oppose him.
People like that shouldn't be allowed to fight for ANY cause, no exceptions

We never studied astro physics.. And I'm not such a mindless pedant that I would point out that the sun was never going to be a black hole.. which I knew.. It'll end up as a white dwarf. I guess I was ignorant on the age...

Anyway... Stop being such a pedantic arsehole. I really don't appreciate your tone.

this is why i love the internet. people having a serious physics discussion in a thread about a nutcase attorney being disbarred :)

i thought the sun might become a white dwarf, but google says it'll become a red giant when it dies off. I need to watch more discovery channel.

cant say i recognise the name of this jack fellow, but from what i read, he seems like the usual bible toting serial litigator that hates video games for no reason other than they're an easy target. it was the same with every medium before it, people resist new technology, expect it to somehow unravel society. games, like everything in life should be done in moderation, too much and sure - you could do harm to yourself or others; but thats no different than from drink, or films, or books, or any thing in life.

from what I've heard, it will become a red giant, expanding its size to the current orbit of earth then after a while of that, will blow off its outer mass (or atmosphere, whatever) and become a white dwarf.
edit: it probably doesn't matter anyway. aren't we scheduled to collide with Andromeda before then?

oh, and the judge should get one free hard kick to the groin on jacko for putting up with his s***.

Quote Ryu_ookami 11th July 2008, 08:24
he doesn't need to be dis-barred. He should be released into an empty city and hunted down by people dressed as 70's pimps driving blinged up cars with shotguns and double pistols. Also he should be given LSD before being released on the off chance he see's everything in bullet time. other than that make sure the city has loads of ads for red bull and rockstar games over it, then film and digitalise the result and hey presto the next generation of GTA is born :)

He's obviously going down; it's extremely difficult to keep a license after being found guilty on 27 charges of anything.

On an unrelated note, I wonder where he got that copy of GTA IV. You think he went out and bought it? Inadvertently supporting the developers he's trying to shut down?
