Could Blizzard be working on Starcraft: Ghost? It's unlikely, but possible...
If you've been sat under a rock this last week then you may have missed out on the fact that Blizzard announced
Diablo 3 over the weekend, timing the announcement to coincide with the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event in Paris.
But it seems that
Diablo 3 isn't the only secret that Blizzard has been hiding these last few years...
OnlineWelten got a chance to sit down with Blizzard's Rob Pardo at the invitational and nagged him on a few issues, one of which was whether or not Blizzard still had any unannounced games in development.
The answer; a coy yes.
According to Pardo, Blizzard still has one as-yet-unannounced project in development which is being worked on by a team seperate to both
Starcraft II and
Diablo 3.
There's precious little information than that going around at the moment, though rumours hint that this could be Blizzard's supposed
World of Warcraft successor or sequel for next-gen system. Personally, we've got out fingers crossed for
Starcraft: Ghost though.
Which game would you want Blizzard to work on? Something old, or utterly new? Let us know in
the forums.
Or maybe a console game? I would kill for a decent Blizzard Wii game.
StarCraft : Ghost FTW. Using Wii remote for nuclear strike.
As for the game, I am hoping for something from StarCraft (Ghost), or Diablo (Might be interested in a WOD), or WarCraft (Warcraft 4). Or even something entirely new.
Really? Then why didn't you tell me? D:
I'm guessing another MMO as well, world of starcraft. Probably not starcraft ghost since the reiterated in France the other day that they're not interested in consoles. I don't really like MMO's (mainly because I can't stand the sub fee), but it has to be acknowledged that Blizzard are best in the business and they would have learnt a lot from making WoW. Also a decent sci fi based MMO would be cool.
Lost Vikings was my favourite game when I was a kid, so something related to that franchise would make me happy too.
Well, if you'd have asked....
Besides, I'd forgotten.. but I remember reading a preview/interview about it, years back.
Starcraft 2 has long since been announced.
world of starcraft wont ever be released till wow dies off.
mmos and subfee. Wow is £8 a month that buys me 2 pints of beer and a bag of chrisps at the local pub ( just ) woopeewoo lol or i can have 20 + hrs of gameplay a week more if you are raiding.
I love the fan renders of Nova's bum, but by god, the game would probably suck, and all the appeal of her bum would be lost :(
Quote from http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=19217 (at the bottom of the page):
"What I will say, though, is that the idea of a new franchise is very intriguing to employees of the company. Are we ever going to release a new one? I would absolutely say we will at some point. I just dont know when that day will be quite yet." - Paul Sams, chief operating officer, Blizzard Entertainment
Also, it's been posted before that Blizzard has been looking for new people for a "next gen MMO", and it's mentioned in the interview, (tho Rob Pardo doesn't directly say it) that they are working on one, with a separate development team. Find it very hard to consider it a rumor based (as it's been said to be in the news post) on having seen the adds for new jobs for that and that it's been admitted in the interview. Of course with Blizzard, you can never be 100% sure no matter what they say =]
Yes it's true they have shown that they really put their IP to good use, sequel after sequel. But at some point it will get back at them and I would be very surprised if they weren't aware of that. At least for Warcraft, there is no more lore left after WotLK comes out, so the next expansion will be about something that we don't know about yet, at all.
A new goddamn IP for once.
But hey, why bother trying something new when you can crap out remakes and make millions?
World of Warcraft 2?
I have a feeling it's going to be World of Starcraft or something along those lines, but Warcraft IV would make a lot of sens. The third one is still popular but it is now 6 years old
I SECOND THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! was so pissed off when they did WOW instead of Warcraft4
Truth to be told though, I'd play whatever they make, simply because THEY made it.
Seriously though, I love Blizzard. I've spent more hours playing Warcraft II and III, Diablo, Starcraft, Diablo II, and Diablo II LOD than all other games combined over the last 10+ years. I can't wait to see what they have in the works.
It'll be a "World of Diablocraft a MMORTS" that looks like "kingdom under fire" but in space ! Wouldn't that be fun?
Anyway I'm salivating for the release date of Diablo 3 -- 2009 maybe?
That'd be bad cos it'd take the focus off making a really cool game and I think that's what makes Blizzard's games stand out. I can't remember a single Blizzard game that could be considered 'cutting-edge' in terms of graphics but all of their games are fun and have good stories nontheless.
-a console port of one of their in-development or existing titles
-a partnership with another studio, leasing out their skilled cinematic talent in the same manner Squaresoft was commissioned for The Animatrix
-an expansion pack to Starcraft II, developed in parallel with the game
Releases in order of date: Starcraft -> Diablo 2 -> Warcraft 3
Let's see the announcements in order of date: Starcraft 2 -> Diablo 3 -> ????
My guess is Warcraft 4. Or Blizzard is making a new franchise because they know that people don't like it when companies keep milking off their old franchises by making sequels (even if they're good).
It had best not be another mmo, the genre that imho is killing the PC Game "fun-factor" (whats the point of a game that has no end?)
About the discussion of WoW and Warcraft 3, with WotLK WoW will be reaching the end of story line told in WC3: The Frozen Throne. After that, Blizzard has at least one more Expansion planned for WoW. Whether they decide to use the material planned for that expansion for a new Warcraft-the-real-time-clicker remains to be seen. Either way, unless something dramatic happens to the WoW community for some unknown reason, the Warcraft lore would seem to be focused on WoW for the time being. Anything is possible with Blizzards rather flawless fell for focusing and timing.
Warcraft 4? Why would they make two strategy games to be released so close to each other? Doesn't make sense, especially if you note the point of their games having really long lifespans - as previously mentioned in the comments.
Amon I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but please have a look around mate, making an expansion pack while the original is still in the works? That's got to be the best/worst I've heard on any discussion over this topic, anywhere. Honestly.
I guess you aren't aware of the Warcraft movie?
warcraft 4 would be good to see. Dout we would see it till 2010 though
It got bombed to kingdom come.
(I got no idea how to write that expression properly, you get the idea)
