Paul W.S. Anderson has indicated that another Resident Evil film could be on the cards.
Paul W.S. Anderson, the director behind the original
Resident Evil film, has indicated that he is currently in talks with Sony to make a fourth film in the series, though nothing has been confirmed just yet.
Speaking to
MTV, Anderson said “
I don’t even know if anything will come of it, but there’s a possibility it might happen.”
“
I love the ‘Resident Evil’ franchise and we always try to make the best possible movie we can. If we could find a good ‘Resident Evil 4’ to make, then we would do it,” continued Anderson.
“
But I wouldn’t just do it for the sake of it, that’s for sure.”
The last
Resident Evil film,
Extinction, opened the strongest of all the films in the series, but had a hugely negative reaction from critics and fans. In fact, in terms of fan-reaction, the first film is generally held up as the best in the series.
The good news though is that Anderson
only directed the first film, only overseeing the production of the later films without getting hands-on. That bodes well if Anderson does get the approval to go ahead and make another film.
Would you be interested in watching another
Resident Evil film, or has the
Doom put you off the cinema altogether? Let us know in
the forums.
Not seen the last Res Evil. Given the second film had one good scene (Nemesis vs. Marshalls), I didn't hold much hope for the second.
I'd REALLY like to see Postal though, after having seen the intro on youtube and reading the synopsis on wikipedia, it looks like one of the funniest films ever. Uwe Boll is like Tim Westwood, you REALLY mustn't take him seriously.
If he's going to make another film, do the original, properly. The game story is far, far more interesting than the re-hash crap of the films.
I mean, I like Milla just as much as the next guy, but that may be a bit much.
As for sticking to the story, of the games, though, I don't see that as a particularly viable option for game>movie translations. The game is designed to stimulate the player in different ways to the film, and although they can both happily feature the same characters, the protagonist of the film is invariably going to be different to that of the game.
What the games fleshed the length with simply won't work well on th big screen. Massive example: Tomb Raider. Puzzle based game. Made you think. Movie? Stared at Angelina Jolies boobs for a bit, and spent most of it mentally switched off.
Resi is much the same. The fear, the puzzles, the camera angle, and so on would simply not translate to the big screen. Fear is probably the easiest thing to translate between the formats, but these days, we've seen it all, we're very rarely scared anymore.
That reads pretty ramble-y, but I swear there's sense in it somewhere!
Absolutely - The story was far from perfect, but it's not like it was as bad as, say, National Treasure 2. They could have done a LOT more with the mansion, I agree, but now they've moved on from that setting, I imagine it'd be hard to go back to it, as only the players of the game will be aware of the Mansion being pretty.. Prominent in most of the characters story. Everyone else would either be confused or bored, slating it as having repeated the first movie.
Spot on!
Given the fan reaction and the fact that capcom decided to make the next Res film themselfs (using CG) probably rules this out.
it has enough gray areas and twists that you could keep to the story without making it droll, by focusing on events and people and the things that happened outside the main character's area and perspective. also going into more of the backstory would give it enough depth to make it truly interesting.
Hell ya I have been saying that since the game came out, it would be sick to have a movie made of it. I think I would prefer the movie to be around the new version of FEAR thats coming Project Origin, its what FEAR was meant to be. But I still love them. ^_^
I personally never played the Resident Evil games, but I thoroughly enjoyed the first movie... the other two not so much. They were mediocre in my opinion.
See I liked the second Resident Evil movie the most so far
but anyhow I think to answer your question, one game to movie that was good was the first Mortal Kombat movie and the other game to movie that I thought was decent was the DOA: Dead or Alive movie, they picked the best actors to fit the roles perfectly... well they could have picked a cuter Kasumi but thats hard to find someone like here but anyhow I thought that movie was great and well it was just plain hot.
Oh and I liked the Street Fighter movie for just how off the wall funny it was lol
You don't go watch a movie like this to be intellectually inspired. There are a lot of bad game-to-movie adaptions but that's because they fail at keeping the plot tight, try to be the game which will always fail (A movie can't be a game PERIOD) and have very bad acting which kills all types of movies.
If the game has a lackluster backstory/plot you can't expect the movie version of it to be any better. Resident Evil of course has a good story.
Another game which has been talked a lot (at least on the Steampowered user forums) when it comes to making video game movies (a third name for it heh) is Half-Life. This game has a great rich story with lots of material to use, but there will never be a movie based on it because the developer VALVe will never give the rights for it. There is just NO movie that would do this game justice. Not that it should because a movie is a separate thing, but a bad Half-Life movie (which it definitively would be) would ruin it for the game.
