It's just a rumour right now, but it looks like Ironside might not be voicing Sam Fisher anymore...

This is still very much a rumour at the moment, so take it with a pinch of salt, but the trustworthily named SarcasticGamer is currently running the story that Sam Fisher will not be voiced by Michael Ironside in the next Splinter Cell game.

Which would make sense.

The last anybody really saw of the latest game in the series, Splinter Cell: Conviction, was at Ubidays 2007 and since then the game has been strangely absent from the public eye. True, the next title in the Clancy franchise might have just gone undercover - but the word is that the game has been completely redesigned after some design problems.

We got a chance to see Conviction the last time it was on show and the game was definitely looking a rough round the edges, but more troubling was the suspicion that the game had lost it's way and was no longer a real Splinter Cell game. It was a lot more daylight and eyeliner than shadows and nightvision.

Which is why it makes sense that the game may be getting a total re-imagining, as Ubi has decided to do with both the Far Cry 2 and Prince of Persia games.

The question is - is Ironside is being cast out, then who should replace him? Quincy? Let us know your ideas in the forums.

Without his voiceover it just isn't Sam Fisher. It's just... Not.

Well, I'm not playing any more then.

Double Agent was poor enough, they might as well just give up making it now with Ironside.

I liked double agent, and was looking forward to at least seeing where they too this one...but the lack of the same voice will hurt it imo.

QFT.

Though I still need to try Double Agent. I played a quick demo on the 360 but my experience has always been that SC games are better on the PC.

I also feel this series peaked at Chaos Theory - fantastic game!

Double agent was poop. I was quite excited about the change in direction for conviction.

It peaked at #1, #2 was good but not quite there and #3 was better but not as good as #1 while #4 was just plain toss on polycarbonate.

ya, Sam needs Ironside. period.

and as bad as people say on #4, its not THAT bad IMHO.. its just the previous game r so bloody cool, its up the standard line way up there for future games.

I could have sworn I heard this months ago... Maybe it was a change of voice actor for another random game series I don't play much attention to.

That's crazy, it's like David Hayter not doing Snake anymore, it just won't be the same.

I think that's doing it a great favour...
