Call of Duty 5: World at War will be set back in World War II in the Pacific theater.
It isn't a huge surprise - in fact, let's face it, it's
exactly what we expected - but an official follow-up to last year's
Call of Duty 4 has now been unveiled.
Call of Duty 5 is a go.
According to reports from the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, the new game will be titled
Call of Duty: World at War and will be developed by Treyarch, not Infinity Ward.
Call of Duty 5: World at War is going to eschew the modern update of Infinity Ward's recent game and will instead take the game back to the roots of the franchise, which is either a good or a bad thing dependent on how resistant to change you are.
World at War will be set in the Pacific theater during World War II, which begs the question of why the game isn't called
Call of Duty 5: World at War, Again.
According to the report from Xbox Magazine, Treyarch is planning to make the game more of a survival horror experience than other games in the series by exploring "
the darkest corners of WWII...tackling darker themes" and ptting players against "
a new, seemingly alien fighting force."
Infinity Ward, who did sterling work with
Call of Duty 4 have not explained why they won't be developing the next game in the franchise.
Lets just hope the game doesn't end up all
Warrior Within meets
Predator, eh? Tell us what you think in
the forums.
Aliens? Whatever.
...instead of... yknow... ALIEN............. :(
By alien i take its gonna be Japanese , not Japanese mutant Godzilla space hybrids?
:(
I really hope they do not try to do a Crysis...
=
FAIL
sorry, It had to be said, Infinity Ward did a good job on the Games they did themself, I'll never understand why they let someone else do in betweens that have the potential to taint their repuation in a negative way.
I for one wont be getting this, as if I need WW2 game i have enough of htem as it is
Kimbie
Lets see how Treyarch will depict the Pearl Harbor attack and compare it to EA's promising-ended-up-lackluster MOH Rising Sun's Pearl Harbor level.
Would be interesting to see if they can bring out the feel of fighting an “alien” force (in the non-Crysis sense of the word.).
This sounds tedious but bare with me. I was a mates wedding in February and spoke to one of his mates who works for Activision and was over in the States for training and "saw COD5", didn't say it was being played, or if it was in the Pacific (I asked) just that is looks "cool, like COD4" and was in WWII. Just thought I’d throw that in there!
Sounds a step backwards to me, but then id rather another WWII than yet another set in the future with unrealistic guns.
Lets be realistic though. When you create a FPS, it generally entails some sort of war (other then the make believe world of GTA). And what is more convincing then real weapons on a real playing field? This is what drove a really great story in COD4 (at least to me). Games that create super hero characters *cough* crysis *cough* need super villian type bad guys to even the playing field. When you go back to the basics of good Vs evil, these games always seem to take the same stage, cause its the only themes that are realistic.
Crysis would have been awesome, yet it isnt. COD4 WAS awesome, yet it has a story that cant be rivaled. So in one camp you have the latest greatest technology, with no story that seems feesable at all. And in the other you have great story with realistic expectations.
I for one love the realistic over the fantastic. Aliens over real story? Give me real story any day....
Also some grusome stuff about how the game starts out...
Ninja Edit: Nvm.. cross-platform including PC
Personally I think Infinity Ward did a great job with the CoD series, I reckon that the Medal of Honour games haven't been the same since a big chunk of the delopment team left to form Infinity Ward. I didn't like Pacific Assault and I didn't much care for MoH:Airborne, one aspect that really annoyed me was if I shoot someone twice in the head at close range I expect them to die, not get back up again!
I'll give CoD5 a bash when it comes out, even though the alien comment does make me pause for thought, I won't touch another MoH game.
It's not up to them but to Activision
I just hope that cod6 is the dog's Cojones, maybe they will pick up with soap and leave the us out of it.
How lame....
That was exactly my thought also!
Come on guys.. United Offensive! It had the best multiplayer of the series... And the best singleplayer.. It was just the best.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Alien-like does not mean an Alien, it means something you are totally not used to etc.
What they mean about "something you are totally not used to" (AKA. alien)? I mean, what is so diferent from germans, terrorists to japaneses? I hope they mean the pinched eyes because ALIENS as it it i first thought would be as lame as Crysis... It would be the CRISIS of COD franchise...
But perhaps IW is busy making another game, but i think that "team that is wining, we don't change"...
This year will be creepy! Beth developing Fallout, Ubi developing Farcry and now this... Will nintendo develop "Sonic"? ooo... already did...
seems like another non-PC CoD :(
