The Qmotions Big Air - uncomfortably similar to the balance board?

The Qmotions Big Air - uncomfortably similar to the balance board?

Microsoft and Sony are both great companies with semi-excellent consoles, but realistically they both have to be just a little bit envious of Nintendo, we think. The whole motion sensitive thing has been a real hit and Nintendo is definitely leading the market right now thanks to a boost from the Wii Fit balance board.

Microsoft though is a canny little console-maker, and is fighting back by giving Qmotions an official license to make wireless peripherals for the Xbox 360. Wireless skateboard peripherals.

According to Engadget, the controller in question will be called the Qmotion Big Air and will be compatible with most boarding games currently on the market - i.e. Tony Hawk and Amped, we think.

And, as an added bonus, the Big Air also has the ability to double exactly how rowdy you are. Gnarly!

There's currently no word on release dates, or even a full list of compatible games for that matter, but Microsoft is famously hesitant to give out official licenses, so the Big Air must have impressed someone enough to make it worth a peek.

Is Microsoft actually trying to do something new with Qmotions, or is this just a blatant rip off of the Wii Fit balance board? Let us know what you think in the forums.

Err I doubt it considering the balance board isn't original to nintendo how about this http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/gamepads/gamester-skateboard-sportsboard-ps2.asp
been around for years. Seriously Nintendo do innovate enough without people adding stuff they didn't invent to their resume

you are right... it is not a wii fit balance board rip off.. it is a PS2 skate...thing rip off. Again Nintendo took an idea and made it for the masses. If you look at how this controler works, you actually have to know how to skate... and probably have a skateoard. So, why buy it then? For winter?

I do not know how to skateboard and would never buy this as i see myself falling often until mastered it. The Wii fit, well, does not require that much skill so more people will be able to use it. Again, the point of the wii.

What's the betting on how long it takes for someone to file suit against them after they break their ass falling off the thing? $5 to get into the pot, and whoever is closest without going over takes all. My money's on the 20th of August.

The wii fit board has so many more purposes than this thing, they probably should of simply cloned that!

Put it this way (it isn't a rip off) but if it was, how the hell are they gonna make a board with a controller unique, i mean, its a long piece of material with a controller and internal electronics. What you expect, a hover board? Having said that, I'll stick to my super duper water cooler PC, have a nice day.
Quote fathazza 4th May 2008, 14:56
they could have easily made it hover with a few magnets, so yeah i expect that ;)

Exactly, but all nintendo fanboys like to think everything nintendo makes is new and a first and that everyone else is copying them. :)

Looks cool but is it going to work the way you want it too

Blatant rip-off! Nintendo invented it first!

Seriously though, can't deny the timing is...interesting.
