Dexter: The Game - Jack Thompson won't be happy if this comes to the Wii...
IGN has reported that a computer game based on the TV series
Dexter, which is in turn based on the novel
Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, is in development.
The game, according to
IGN, will be developed by Marc Ecko Entertainment, creators of
Mark Ecko's Getting Up. The developer is said to be working very closely with Showtime Networks, who are behind the TV adaptation of the book.
Dexter itself has gained wide acclaim and is passionately followed by more than one member of the
bit-tech staff. The plot for the series follows the titular Dexter, a forensic scientist who is also a serial killer. In order to sate his hunger for blood though, Dexter hunts other serial killers - much like Serial Killer X in
Condemned.
With any luck the game will come close to recapturing the pitch black wit and creepiness of the show - perhaps as something like
Thief?
Yeah - unlikely given that the development studio is best known for it's ties to the fashion industry.
Excited about the idea of a game from the serial killer's perspective, or jaded by one too many spin-offs? Let us know in
the forums.
I just can't imagine what the format would be?
All the things that make the TV show great are things that I can't imagine being easily transferrable to a game. :(
In practice... Dexter doesn't actually kill that many people.
QFT. I agree about the whole "Mark Ecko" game studios point, but with any luck they'll put Getting Up behind them and develop a game that's in character with the TV show - I for one can see it failing, but most likely, I'll wait til its down to a tenner or something and then pick it up and give it a go. Or wait for Bit to review it first! :D
I just hope they get the balance of humour, seriousness, and disturbed right. With the odd echo (no pun intended there folks, honest!) back to "The Rules Of Harry".
Could be good, most likely will have sucky elements most of the way through.
Joe
I wonder if the game will be even worse...
not if you go by the books.
Why would you go by the books when the game is based on the show and the show has strayed so far away from the books which for arguably the first time in history is a good thing.
