Mark Rein says he loves the PC, even despite his recent comments suggesting otherwise.

In a remarkable turn of events, Mark Rein has said that Epic Games is committed to making PC games and that he loves the PC.

"As a company, we make PC games. We love the PC, it's our heritage, we want to see it be strong, and we want to sell games like Unreal Tournament III and Gears of War on PC, and have them sell as well as they do on console," he said in an interview with Eurogamer.

This statement comes after comments from both Mark Rein and Cliff Bleszinski on the 'sorry' state of PC gaming – the former said that "consoles were killing the PC," while the latter said that PC gaming is in "disarray."

Rein was talking about the PC Gaming Alliance, which he said "is a great opportunity for us to have a great, open, honest dialogue with all the stakeholders in the PC business."

"One of the big problems with the PC business is there's no platform holder," he continued. "And so many people are switching to laptops, and most laptops just don't have enough power to play these games. I'm not saying every computer needs an 8800 GTX, but at least give users an experience so they can experience games."

He explained again that piracy was a problem and there are also other hurdles to overcome as well, but the overall plan for the PC Gaming Alliance "is to help the PC platform be a better gaming platform, and we totally support that."

"As soon as [the PC Gaming Alliance] invited us we said 'yes, here's our cheque.' It took all of ten minutes to decide we wanted to be involved in this," he added.

Do you think it's a good thing that Epic is involved in the PC Gaming Alliance or, given the recent statements, are they no longer welcome? Share your thoughts in the forums.

hmm I didn't read the first interview which these comments came from, but it sounds like these guys might have been misunderstood. I mean I love PC gaming much more than console (except for my love for every single Nintendo creation... mmm snes scope) but I could list a whole load of problems that face PC gaming.

I think a few people have leaned on him a bit and told that he need to clear those up.

can somebody just please shut him up...

I get the feeling that he'd say pretty much anything if it looked like there was a chance of 15 minutes of fame (or some cash)...

Well of course Epic still loves the PC. I remember when they said Gears was going to be exclusive to the 360, and then before you know it, there's a PC release.

Also what's all this about ruining UT3? Is the game bad?

Rein's not all wrong though. Lots of people buy laptops instead of desktops now and 90% of those laptop have onboard intel crap when a desktop of similar price would at least come with mid to lower range video cards.

laptops are doing more damage to pc games than consoles are

*hears EA ordering more 'laptop friendly' stickers for the sims 3*

I love UT3... its just as good as the original.

Mark probably just saw the EU sales of UT3 and Gears and realized that Epic is making a ton on PC software.

lies and you know it ;)

Anyway I will try not to deviate the subject into how much ut3 sucks, but it's going to be hard

It is a different soundbite every week with people like this. They should just keep quiet and get on with making games. No one cares whether a developer thinks a platform is dead or not, it just makes them sound bitter when their game flunks.

wasn't Rein just some kind of spokesman anyway ?

note to self : ignore everything that mark rein says

ut3: should't have bothered with singleplayer, all ut maps with vehicles suck, characters shrinking and getting wider and what the hell was that menu all about? Oh yeah and gamespy never scores brownie points

I also love UT3, although in my opinion you can never ever beat great originals. :)

the most profitable and the best selling games where PC exclusives (world of warcraft, and sims respectively) sims later got ported to consoles, but I think it would be a far cry that you could make WoW sell aswell on consoles. I don't think Pc gaming is going anywhere there's certain genre's FPS, RTS, MMORPG that seem to work better on PC
