World in Conflict will be coming to consoles later this year.

Sierra Entertainment has announced that World in Conflict will finally be making the move to next-gen consoles later this year.

World in Conflict was one of the best games of last year - if not the best strategy game in fact - and placed respectably in our Top 10 Games of 2007. However, whereas before the game was limited only to PC gamers with decent enough rigs to render the lush graphics, it will now be available on consoles too.

Sierra has announced that World in Conflict will be ported to both next-gen consoles; the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Unsurprisingly a Wii version hasn't been announced.

No release date has yet been nailed down firmly, but Sierra has said it is aiming for Autumn 2008, so gamepad gurus should have chance to perfect their skills before Christmas.

No information has been given regarding difference between the console or PC versions, but we spoke to Magnus Jensen, who was lead designer on World in Conflict a short while ago about what it takes to design a strategy game and one of the issues we touched upon was console RTS'. The article is certainly worth a look from any RTS fanatics.

How do you think the console port of the game will hold up compared to the PC version? Is it possible to have a decent RTS interface for a console? Let us know what you think in the forums.

hotkeys!! how can console gamepad implement the wonderful hotkeys.

although this is action RTS, it fits console profile very well, only problem would be to find a way round the lack of number keys and this might sell better than PC.

damn, lost another PC exclusive :(

Best RTS ever? Pah, Starcraft is still where it's at, and thats from 1998

Anyway, I can't say i'd be inclined to have the console version (if I had a current-gen console), I got put off with using a gamepad for an RTS back in the days of C&C on the N64.

Would be interesting to see what they come up with for a control system though.

They really should just allow keyboard / mouse in games on consoles.

or just screw consoles all together like they've been screwing us as of late.

Why? Consoles don't deserve this. You wanna play WIC by a pc wanna play GTA or Gran Turismo go buy a console.

PS3 already has Keyboard and mouse support for the actual console. So I dont get why the game developer does not use this.

MS should also allow mouse and keyboard or at least let them use the Chat pad for hot keys.

Keyboard and mouse should be available on the PS3 as UT3 supports them. Although this is one type of game I never would play on a console.

M'eh. It's not as simple as that. The developers have to find a way to get keyboard and mouse support in a game, then how to make it fair and then do it all knowing that 70% of people either don't know about keyboard through PS3 or wouldn't use it anyway. I asked the developers from Epic about it at the UT3 launch and it took them a lot longer to do than you'd think and even know you only really have seperate servers for different inputs.

The separate servers are a good/bad idea but it still highlights the fact that the keyboard/mouse combo is the best way short of mind control. I didn't know it was difficult for Epic to put the KB/Mouse into the game, I assumed it was a straight port with a few driver tweaks (for the input side of things)

if you desperatly need to use a keyboard and mouse then use your pc

I will be using my PC, as I don't play FPS/RTS on consoles, it just doesn't feel right.
