Red Alert 3 - the sequel to the best RTS game ever, whatever Tim may think.

Red Alert 3 - the sequel to the best RTS game ever, whatever Tim may think.

The sequel to (arguably) the best RTS game ever made has just been announced and now all eyes are on EA to make a worthy follow-up to the best of all the Command and Conquer games. Red Alert 3 is officially in development.

Details are thin on the ground - very thin in fact, and the announcement has yet to be truly unveiled, but we know the game is being worked on and that's enough for us.

PC Gamer US has bagged the exclusive announcement apparently and early pictures of the cover show concept art of Tanya in full Soviet get-up.

So, aside from that there really isn't anything to say and we'll have to wait until the magazine is released on March 4th to learn anymore. All this waiting - magazines really drive me up the wall nowadays.

On the plus side, PC Gamer is offering up a chance to win a spot in the Red Alert 3 beta.

I'd love to write some more now but unfortunately Tim and I are about to come to blows on the topic of "Which is better, Command and Conquer or Red Alert 2?" I'm in the latter camp and, because I'm the news writer I can have the last word. Take that, Tim!

So, Red Alert or Command and Conquer? Or are you more of a World in Conflict fanboy? Let us know in the forums.

WAAAAAHHHH!!!!! Yay and double yay! Along with the Spore preview today is a good day to be alive!

And for the record, Red Alert 2 was better than C&C, but only because it built upon what C&C had already created. Although in actuality, Red Alert was better than all of them.

My fav is the Original C&C, Tiberian Sun and Generals. Not a big fan of Red Alert or Red Alert 2, although Samkiller42 keeps making me play Red Alert 2 all the time. No doubt ill get RA3 to complete my collection but ive yet to buy C&C3 and get it installed :)

Come on Sam, when are we going to play Tiberian Sun?

Im here mike, have no fear. RA2 is the BEST in the Red Alert Universe from the Entire C&C stuff, C&C Gold is the best from that, although C&C3 is awesome enough. Sorry mike, Tiberium sun was crap, and looks worse than C&C gold on my 30".
RA3 was annouced years ago in an email that EA sent to people, then a few months later, C&C3 was announced. Frank Klepacki better be doing the OST to RA3, and follow up on the awesomeness of Hell March and Hell March 2. I will definatley be buying this, and like C&C 3 will be working my way up the 1v1 Ladder.

FEB 29 - BATTLECAST PRIMETIME EPISODE 7

Watch a new episode of BattleCast Primetime like you've never watched it before. What happens here on February 14th will be the hot topic of the show, complete with a number of details that we cannot reveal until later this week. Not to mention, the Grand Championship match from our first Ladder Season will be the hot featured match of the show, witness Relativit vs MrYuri in a USA vs Germany matchup that is sure to be an epic showdown for the $5,000 grand prize. More from APOC's corner and the fan-favorite segment, The-5, will also unleash in this new episode of BattleCast Primetime on Feb 29.

Could this be the announcment?

Great news!!
I always prefered Red Alert. It has so much more flavour then C&C.
Tiberium Wars Was very nice, but lacked that something.. something Red Alert had.
Quote Major 13th February 2008, 11:58
£10 bet that they will screw it up. ;)

RA2 was the best C&C universe game I ever got to play.. much better than C&C3...
nevertheless best RTS is atm for me is SupCom... love the game and the gameplay...
Quote wuyanxu 13th February 2008, 12:04
YES! RA2 was infact, my gateway to PC gaming.

so RA3 will be superb!

After the disappointment of C&C3, I'm really hoping they don't make an ass of it and besmirch the RA name...
Quote lewchenko 13th February 2008, 12:39
Please. For the love of God.... let this RTS game have a proper zoom out. I get claustrophobic playing C&C3... its zoomed in so close to the bloody ground.

Make it like Supreme Commander's zoom and it will be GOLD !

Starcraft 2, Alan Wake, Spore, Red Alert 3..... 2k8 is looking like it could bring out a few top titles. (provided spore and Starcraft 2 actually get released in 2k8 and Red alert has a 2k8 schedule as well which currently is unknown).
Quote menemsis 13th February 2008, 12:50

Still play it multiplayer to this day, infact on sunday just past =]
Shame it dont run right in vista (due to lack of ipx i think) but works flawlessly in a virtual PC :D

YURI is PURE PWN!!!!!!!!!!111oneoneoneelevenone! :D
Quote ToMMo 13th February 2008, 12:58
Man I loved RA2, if they don't balls it up, should be an uber game :D yay
Quote Veles 13th February 2008, 13:18
Which is better? That's like asking whether I prefer marshmallows covered in chocolate or pancakes, they're both awesome.

On one hand, Tiberium has Kane and an awesome post-apocalyptic feel, but RA has russian accents, it's too tough to decide.
Quote SlickGnome 13th February 2008, 13:41
RA2 Yuri's Revenge $29.99 + Monster Energy Drinks $1.99 + Many Hours of Lost Sleep = Priceless.. For everything else there is C&C
Quote D3s3rt_F0x 13th February 2008, 13:45
Generals > Red Alert > Red Alert 2 > Tiberian wars > C&C > Tiberian sun

Although tbh I love Red alert just for the music etc but RA2 was class just for the Kirov airships.
Quote airchie 13th February 2008, 14:52
Yuri's Revenge Multiplayer > all :)

"There's only one true Yuri!" :D
Quote Rexxie 13th February 2008, 14:54
I can't believe everyone is such a big fan of Red Alert 2!

Red Alert 1 was amazing: the missions, the music, the atmosphere, the cutscenes: everything was top notch.
I also liked the fine balance between the different sides: Allied with its superior naval units and Soviet with it's superior air units (and to some extent, land units).

I'm not saying Red Alert 2 was a bad game, by any means. It was pretty good actually;
but Red Alert 2 was great when it comes to multiplayer, the singleplayer part was too.. unserious, for my taste anyway.
I played through it, and it was fun, but it didn't match up to Red Alert 1.

Tiberian Sun had better singleplayer than Red Alert 2 did.
Quote Neogumbercules 13th February 2008, 15:46
RA2 was my favorite because it had the best, most fun to use units, very interesting and unique teams, fun maps, and tons of tongue-in-cheek humor that just made the game FUN to play.
Quote Edvuld 13th February 2008, 16:12
I'm glad to hear this. Personally I have trouble deciding betwen C&C Universe and Red Alert universe, but the former has Temple of NOD which is in many ways = Win. The in game videos of RA2 were awesome, I remember the first time you saw Tanya in the map display in the corner =D

Generals universe just sucks :/

Is it just me that remember RA1 with expansions as much harder to accomplish than RA2?

I have mixed feelings here.

While I know the game will likely be good (if it runs right), after what EA did with support for The Final Decade, and other games, I hesitate to buy another EA game.

Unfortunately, I'm Red Alert whore (1 and 2, all packs, and even multiple copies since they got worn out) who will end up buying it, I know I will. Damn you EA.
Quote HourBeforeDawn 13th February 2008, 22:25
Freaking Awesome another C&C YAY!!!!
Quote samkiller42 13th February 2008, 23:59
Why do people keep saying EA ruined C&C 3? Its a damn good game, very quick, well balanced in my opinion, and looks good.
Now, theres less room for error when it comes to RA3, as RA2 was sooooooooo good. I hope there are more factions than just Allied and Soviet, i hope that Yuri has managed to escape or something, keeps the humour going:D.

I think all who posted are awaiting for some screenshots or something, and EA, please, make it full of awesomenesss.

aahh! The sweet memories...

I remember my friend and i use to play at each others home network, starting from Saturday morning to Sunday morning nonstop matches. One match could last several hours. "But he always played the Americans. And when Yuri revenge came out, you could 'mind' control vehicles. He did not know this. So he thought something was wrong with the game. And started cursing his mice and keyboard. And I was literally laughing the tears out of my eyes". It was one of those golden RA moments...

The original Red Alert has to be my favourite of the westwood RTS games, it was balanced just perfectly so that it was important to use the right unit for the right job, rather than just using a big OMGWTFBBQSHINEY!! super-unit/weapon of doom all the time like some of the later ones.

In Red Alert 3, the desperate leadership of a doomed Soviet Union travels back in time to change history and restore the glory of Mother Russia. The time travel mission goes awry, creating an alternate timeline where technology has followed an entirely different evolution, a new superpower has been thrust on to the world stage, and World War III is raging. The Empire of the Rising Sun has risen in the East, making World War III a three-way struggle between the Soviets, the Allies, and the Empire with armies fielding wacky and wonderful weapons and technologies like Tesla coils, heavily armed War Blimps, teleportation, armored bears, intelligent dolphins, floating island fortresses, and transforming tanks.
